Mission Twelve: Naze Sorairo

YSS Kaiyo II - Bridge/Mission Ops

Mikael just shook his head as he poked around the console. Once he was satisfied with what he saw, he decided to make a formal report.

"Communication systems are nominal, Chusa." Mikael said in trade, still wearing the standard issued SAoY uniform. "Though in her defense Chusa, you never know when things will go sideways and you did imply resistance."

Before anyone could approach the human, he felt a pang in his stomach. Looks like the stress of the situation had gotten to Darwin, and he would bolt from the PA Bay clutching his gut with one hand and his mouth with another. He didn't even take off his power armor.

Guess sometimes, your body just wants to tell you when to stop pushing yourself. The prior night, he had spent the time he could training himself for future combat without rest, and the lack of sleep upon hearing of an upcoming mission made it all the more difficult for him. This was merely a result of his poor planning.

At the command chair, Hoshi said, "We'll be readying the weapons when we're..." Hoshi looked about, then asked, "Boss, where is weapons going?"

The MEGAMI replied, "The weapons operator is leaving to the bathroom with stomach illness. Another illness has been reported in the power armor bay."

Hoshi grumbled to herself as she remembered dinner, "Those fucking yellow panels..." Then the little captain roared over comms, "Get me Chlorate to the bridge!" She looked about the bridge, "Helm, give pause. We need this sorted. Everyone else, talk amongst yourselves. Some of you have barely spoken to one another at all. We have time to kill until that," Hoshi pointed to the weapons seat and went on, "is filled."

Power Armor Bay

Eden grimaced as Hoshi asked for Chlorate after Darwin had left.

She walked to the center of the bay and opened her hands to the crowd, "I want us to begin this mission with a reminder on friendly fire," Eden looked to Alastair pointedly as she said this. "It is not something that your suit is capable of doing, to be honest, as it will not fire onto friendly signatures, which I have recently programmed your HUD to identify with hearts overlaid on their chests and backs. On top of that, you would have to manually override the controls in order to fire on someone, no matter how fast they are moving. Listening?" Eden said, turning to Shasse and some others. "It is impossible for one of this crew to get shot by each other. Now, what do you need to do to not get shot by the enemy? What has worked for you?"

Eden looked about as if ready for anyone to speak and if someone were to raise their hand, she would point to them only.

Power Armor Bay

William cracked an eye and looked at the small window that currently displayed Eden speaking. As she explained the IFF. He panned his view over to the group and saw what she was talking about. There was a heart on all their backs.

He then closed his eyes once more and focused on the HUD in his cybernetic eye. William scanned the message he had composed with his mindware, before sending it off in a burst transmission. At Eden's question, he opened his eyes once more and waited for someone else to speak.

"Oh, of course! Yes, the TTD is stable and ready for use. I'll get right on those errors," reported Kiki as she turned to her datapad. She opened a tab and tapped a few buttons in order to fix the error.

PA Bay
Chlorate beeped when Hoshi requested the android come to the bridge. She took a moment to process the information, beeping a confused "Affirmative?" and glancing at Mark to say "Father, I must depart to the bridge." With her loud feet she proceeded to the entrance to the bridge, clanking all the way.

Outside the Bridge
"I am here," Chlorate said, "But I do not understand why I have been requested to be here, I am not a member of the bridge crew.

Gravity smiled at Sacre's reply.

"Love you too." she muttered cheekily. Ah, this was great! New universe, new friends, new ship-!

Wait, people were getting sick?!

The blue neko snarled in her seat, but none the less affirmed her order and brought the lumbering hulk of metal to a halt in the middle of the void. She kept the engines at an idle and used the ship's CFS to hold them in place. Just in case they weren't the only ones out here.

Gravity gripped the sticks and took a deep breath, which barely contained the rage that was spreading like a wildfire through her core. She had come out here expecting death-defying feats of aviation and general ass-kickery! How much longer would she be made to wait?!

...Ugh, might as well relax. She pulled up her communicator and began softly playing some good ol' waiting music. Most Yamataians were highly confused about her choice in music, expecting a Nekovalkyrja to listen to techno or classical or something more "proper". It had been a product of her upbringing, really. At flight school, where she'd trained in fighters at first, there had been several Nepleslians. Some were immigrants, some were Nepleslian Navy doing some international training between nations, but most of them had brought with them their special, Nepleslian brand of music. Gravity had become hooked on it from the first time she'd heard a guitar riff. It was aggressive, it got her heart pumping, and it set the mood perfectly for blowing stuff up.

But enough of that. Time for conversation. She needed something to occupy her time with.

"...So!" she said aloud, leaning back in her chair.

Geez, Hoshi had been right! She'd never really spoken to these people! Which was weird, considering how outgoing she was.

"Whaddya call it when a Kuvexian goes into a sushi bar?" She asked the others in the room, spreading her arms wide. She waited a moment before dropping the punchline.

"A FAMILY REUNION!"

Alastair looked at Eden with a smile. "It is from my experience that dodging and using cover aids in not being hit by the enemy. As does using a surprise attack to strike first before they are able to react." He said in a relaxed voice. "And as Eden said your suits will prevent friendly fire. Though this does not prevent indirect fire weapons from hitting your team mates."

Alastair reminded himself to looked over his suit to be sure he had the proper amount of explosives. Given the last fight it seemed wise to bring a little extra firepower.

"Depends. At range, constant movement and a reduced posture to make less of a target of myself while returning fire. With drone possibly removing myself completely. Though in CQC I rely on my enhanced reflexes and hand to hand style to Parry and redirect my attackers. Usually creating a opening by which to inflict a kill strike." Mark said answering idly his sensors picking up the icons. They sat in his view over friendlies backs and chests, but those he could not see he felt in proximity.

Oddly enough, Arete seemed to go silent, not responding to either Eden's question, or Walter's. Her hed swiveled from side to side before she fiddled with her golden hair and slipped her Mindy's helmet on. She was, effectively, still inexperienced in combat - the scuffle with the living tar was hardly an actual combat encounter. Though... The fact that the Second Officer guy - Alastairs? Was so... Keen on mentioning the indirect fire point made her a little bit concerned. Best to stay out of close range, or else... The other guy, Mark it was, seemed really confident and almost robotic in his way of mentioning his abilities. Maybe some sort of weird prototype android?

Shasse moved up beside Alastair with an eager expression on her face as she tried unsuccessfully to sit still as the last few checks were made before they would skip off to another dimension, having only just left the last one she couldn't help but wonder why this technology wasn't being used more frequently. "To answer the question of how not to be hit, I usually leave it up to luck. Sure I'll be moving around and making it harder to get a pin on my spot but luck or fate, whatever you want to call it, that's where the real decisions of how it goes down happen." Turning to look for Darwin she noticed him dashing from the PA bay looking as though he was about to throw up right there and then, "I suppose these things happen to the best of us." she thought shrugging and hoping it didn't last too long.

The blue neko studied her team mates, everyone on board the ship was capable when it came to their missions and she had no doubt they'd push though this one like any other, a new dimension and new foe wasn't about to stop the Kaiyo, "Hey Alastair, I know you're an officer, but you didn't happen to pick up the cooking skills that your brother Miko had did you? Could really go for some of his cooking after all this excitement."

Miles motioned for Wyatt to follow him as he moved over to join the group hearing the various methods of avoiding and dealing damage in a fight from the members assembled there, he shook his head in the knowledge that as much as some would brag of their ability everyone visits the medbay at one point or another. The minkan had already checked his gear but out of habit and the need to ensure his suit wouldn't die on him as a medic compelled him to once again check over its systems and run the triage HUD once more checking he was getting readings from all the other mindys.

"So what more are we waiting for dearest brother, It seems everyone is ready who's coming so I can only assume there are some final checks to perform?" Miles spoke calmly looking over at him while waiting for their orders.

Walter, despite feeling like Arete gave him the cold shoulder, understood that the angel was just paying attention to Eden at the moment. Following her example, he gave Eden his full attention.

Strategies to avoid getting shot by the enemy; Walter couldn't help but think of what Edwin said back then, "The easiest strategy is... Don't even bother. Getting hit builds character, and everything you could dish out would surpass anything else your opponent could dream of. What the hell are you even thinking, boy? Fighting with honor doesn't matter." Walter can't deny the effectiveness of the Empire's lightning-strike strategies, but it only worked because Yamatai had infinite resources at their disposal. Nothing can withstand merciless onslaughts like that.

The technician moved on from that 'tactic' to what Mark and Alastair had come up with. Both of them basically said the same thing: hide behind cover. There's definitely dodging, but some projectiles fly too fast to be dodged easily. Walter preferred to make his own cover.

"The important key to fights is just fighting smarter, not harder; it's why we emphasize using cover whenever needed. When push comes to shove, I go make my own cover".

Asuka balled out laughing, "I don't get it, but I love it."

"You're to take over our weapons station. There's nobody better for the job, Chlorate. I believe in you above everyone else on this ship to do this job! So do it, okay?" There was a confidence to her tone and a smile on her face before Hoshi said to the bridge, "Commence the operation. Let's let Gravity do her job..."

Power Armor Bay

Eden looked about, "Is everyone prepared for this? We'll be making the jump to this blue sky universe soon. Be ready." She looked to the force field protected open power armor bay door, then back to her crew, "I want us sticking together for this one."

Chlorate looked at Hoshi, surprised. "Y... You do?" she asked. "Where... is the weapon station?" She seemed oddly locked onto Hoshi, staring at her face in a slightly strange way.

The Kikitoo looked up and smiled, having fixed the error. She stretched out her white-feathered wings and went to sit down in a chair, deciding apparently to walk quickly, perhaps out of the feeling of success of having done the final step to ready the TTD.

As everyone gave their answers to Eden's question, William couldn't help himself from smirking at the answers, most of which should be common sense. However, his armor showed no sign of this. It stood resolute next the force field, as still as a stone golem.

At her Eden's next statement, William spoke. "Aye aye, Ma'am. Ready to deploy." He then turn towards the force field, his thrusters all twisting about till they aligned. As soon as Eden gave the word, he'd be ready.

"Indeed - Shosa Eden is right! Strong, positive relationships between people is beneficial to us all. And the more bonds there are, the better!" The smol woman thought back to just the past few days, where she'd had a couple of adventures with the crew already - on with Walter and Eden for a while, and another with Katsu.

Gravity shrugged to Asuka.

"You know...! Because they're squid-people...! Ah, forget it." she mumbled, settling back in her chair as the input from her SPINE told her that the ship was ready to roll. She began flicking switches on her console to prep the ship for it's hazardous journey between universes.

"Helm here. Activating TTD in ten." she announced over the ship's PA system. Everyone should have been ready, but an extra ten seconds to allow the drive to run up was more than enough for a double check. At that moment, she heard a familiar clanking, and whirled around in her chair to see the most adorable member of the crew. Gravity waved to Chlorate, resisting the urge to hug the android and pet her.

"Weapons is right here, hon," the Neko instructed, pointing to the station next to hers. "I fly, you shoot. Simple, right?"

She faced forward once more and felt a surge of giddiness swell inside her. If there was anyone she'd want to have operating the turrets and auxiliary weapons, Chlorate would be it. With a supercomputer for a brain, there would be no human error on her part. Gravity: Greatest Pilot in the Universe, and Chlobot: Ice-Cold Killer. Together, they form the most ass-kicking duo the cosmos has ever seen!

"Alright! Bring the noise!" Gravity cheered silently, her eyes becoming predatory. She shoved the throttle to the max, feeling her weight shift as the Kaiyo began clawing its way forward through space, its massive engines roaring. She watched their velocity carefully, and when they were at sufficient speed to make the jump, engaged the TTD. A portal opened before the ship, and they screamed through, armed to the teeth and ready to destroy anything in their path.

Oh sweet Yui, she loved her job.

Hoshi was wide eyed as she listened to the MEGAMI say, "The cooks are reporting they can see blue skies through the Zesuaium window in the wardroom's floor. We've made it."

"I want hull visuals," Hoshi said and a few of the volumetric screens on the Fuji class' bridge lit up to show the space around them was bright and cheerful, the same color as the middle of Hoshi's hair where the pale blue met white. There were dots like ellipses in the distance to many sides and angles, above them and below as well. It became clearer that those were planets as the visuals on the screens popped up some of the names in Trade and Yamataigo. One planet was larger than the rest of the other planets, was diamond-like, and shone an opaque robin's egg blue. Moving objects like butterflies and bunnies fluttered and went about at differing rates around the planets and in the space around the Kaiyo, which were all space ships.

"I'm reading multiple hostiles in the area. Nearing eight thousand ships within sensors' range," Asuka blurted out and Hoshi's blue eyebrows pushed together.

"Boss," Hoshi asked of the MEGAMI as she ran diagnostics though SPINE, "Cloaking is...?"

"At full capacity. They can't see us but we can see them."

"I am reading no active weapon signatures within our immediate vicinity," Asuka told the bridge.

"Gravity, bring us in to the planet labeled Soranomizu or Empty Water. The next time you see a ship passing near the surface of the planet, slip in over it." Hoshi spoke out, "Boss, show the power armor bay visuals." Then, to the crew over comms she said, "This is Sorairo, filled with hostiles that don't know we exist yet. Let's keep it that way until we're ready." As the Kaiyō II flew closer, the crew would see that they were approaching the huge and shining planet. A ship was approaching the planet, though they could see there was nothing present on the water's surface besides for tumultuous waves. "Gravity, move us over that ship. Within meters. I want us to nearly latch on. Boss, we're still cloaked?"

"Completely," the MEGAMI replied. Hoshi nodded and the ship went down low and was on top of the other while Hoshi spoke to the crew again.

"We are going into this empty water planet, Soranomizu, where something akin to a star is said to exist. We are tasked with destroying this star. I want you to deploy on Eden's command. She will be waiting for visual confirmation that we are at our target." Hoshi looked to the pilot, "Turn up, Gravity."

"Yeah, we'll make it through, just like you said," Walter said in agreement, and gave Arete a thumbs up.

Walter was unable to disagree with Arete's logic; if anything, there are plenty of reasons as to why he would want to perfectly agree with the statement. One good reason being that his mother told him the exact opposite message in a... similar tone of voice. Lousy mother, that... that damn Edwin.

Walter could feel the subtle vibrations beneath his feet, hear the faint groans around him, and recall how his last ship ripped at the seams. These sensations wound up his nerves, even after he couldn't sense the telltale signs of transuniversal transporting throughout the ship. They must have arrived to.... Well, somewhere nearby the rendezvous at this point, as far as Walter could tell from this windowless PA Bay.

"Oh, I understand," said Chlorate. She beeped and booped when the TTD activated, being surprised by momentary sensor glitches. When they were finished, she clanked over next to Gravity and sat down at the weapons station- but... something was odd. She could be caught glancing at Hoshi quite a few times, much more than someone normally would, then quickly looking around as if she were afraid someone had noticed her.

Engineering Bay
"Whoo!" cheered Kikios. "Well... that was fun." The cockatoo reached up to ensure her crest hadn't been messed up and then got up, to check the TTD on her datapad. She was sure nothing abnormal happened to it, but it never hurts to check, especially when it's a device powerful enough to enable travel across universes.

"Turn down for what?!" Gravity giggled, feeling her heart beginning to race. This was the kind of thing she'd signed up for! The Kaiyo banked slightly and began a steep dive towards the inbound ship, who was still blissfully unaware of their presence. However, the neko had to say, when she'd heard of a hostile universe, she wasn't expecting something out of a children's show. Seriously, could a bunch of butterflies and bunnies really take on good old Yamataian engineering?

"Fifty meters," the pilot announced in a slightly detached voice, gently leveling out the ship and matching their speed with the other craft's. With the SPINE connection, she was in two places at once, to put it simply. She could see all of the external camera feeds, while at the same time looking at her console with her own two eyes. She primarily focused on the feeds giving her a view of below the ship. The other ship slowly rose to meet them. "Thirty."

Hoshi wanted meters? Gravity would give her meters.

"Twenty... Ten..." she announced again, her voice growing steadily quieter as she focused her full attention on getting as close as possible. Secretly, she hoped that Sacre could see this, and that someone was filming her reaction.

"Five meters and holding." she announced, keeping an eye on her distance and making minute course adjustments to prevent a collision. If anyone wanted to, they could easily jump out of the Kaiyo and surf on the top of the other vessel.
