Mission Twelve: Naze Sorairo

"Understood, father," Chlorate replied to Mark. She watched as Walter gathered a crowd and as he eventually lashed out on a poor panel. Via a message to Mark's geist Chlorate noted "Father... My analysis is concluding Walter Hyde is behaving strangely... abnormal... I do not remember my many observations deducing him to act anything like this... And he said he would put me on hold, but he does not look like he is going to hold me.

Walter's sudden interruption came as quite a surprise. However, unaware of the minkan's double situation, the snake eagerly shook his hand without the slightest hesitation. "Yep, Jôto-hei. I'm not sure how i did it but promotions have been flying around since you were transferred. Good to have you back Walter." From the corner of his eye he noticed the little wave Alistair threw at them, and returned in kind.

By the time he turned his attention back to Walter and Arete, he'd already gone off after the Run-in with Shasse. "Huh...... oh well, he'll be back. But yeah, i've been around here for almost a year now... this must be my 9th major mission i think, kinda lost count." He said, resuming his talks with the bird almost too short to ride.

Miles looked over at Walter at the sound of his sudden outburst and casually flicked his gaze to the triage display in his helmet noticing nothing really out of the ordinary, yet something still felt off about the whole situation, although he'd only spoken to Walter once before this didn't seem like him plus the issue of where he's been for so long.

Shasse however was not anywhere near as composed about the issue and let out a small gasp as he punched the wall before glaring at him as he moved to the corner. The blue neko watched him intently trying to gauge what was going on in his head "did I go too far when I spoke to him?" she thought while absently chewing a strand of hair.

The blue neko decided a more indirect approach was needed and subsequently floated over towards Walter, instead of stopping in front of him however she slowly floated past his face spinning slowly in the air like a starfish. "Waaaaaaallll teeerrrrrrrr..." Shasse stared deadpan at him while saying his name very slowly as she moved past before dropping to the floor right in front of him. "Is something wrong, it's not like you to break things in fact you usually fixed them."

After seeing Shasse follow Walter in her usual strange way Miles noticed something he hadn't seen before in the form of a name he'd not seen before on his HUD. Scanning the room he noticed the new addition to their infantry in the form of Wyatt Alder, according to records he joined the ship prior to mission 10 but did not participate in the previous 2 missions. "Interesting." The minkan thought to himself striding over to where he had tried to isolate himself, "So you were a last minute entry then, nice to have you on board. Miles Belmont, I'm one of the combat medics along with Sacre and Care."

Wyatt was dragged away from his train of thought by the arrival of a stranger, it was funny how so many people could be crammed into a ship for lengths of time, and never come across one another. The marksman gave him a curt nod of respect.

"A combat medic hey?" he said, not so much asking the man a question, as he was just reaffirming the detail aloud to himself.

"I respect what you guys do, diving into danger to get others out" Wyatt continued, thrusting his hand out for a shake, "Wyatt Alder, I shoot things from either really far away, or from so close that they can see their looks of terror reflected back at them..." Wyatt's voice trailed off a little towards the end as he clenched and unclenched the fist of his off hand absentmindedly.

A sudden sound in the background brought him back to the current conversation and he ceased the clenching.
"So, you any good at it, you know - patching people back together?"

The captain turned to Nerai at safety and systems monitoring, saying, "Give engineering the go-ahead if all systems are to remain green on your end. Helm, take us through this universe and to Sorairo on engineering's cue."

She was using something that Saiga-chusa had given her, which was a brushed matte, self-warming travel mug that was barely visible unless from certain angles, like a volumetric projection almost, made by SAINT. Her hands held it close to her flat chest and she breathed in as she remained strapped to the fully black Type 35 chair. She wore the new uniform of the Ayenee Space Coalition and had the kusarigama the Kaiyō crew and friends had recently been given on the captain's and XO's dime for use defending Ayenee and the Yamataian Empire.

Eden held the helmet to her Mindy against her hip and elbow and let her hands be loose in order to move as she spoke, bobbing up and down and flexing out before coming back to her middle as she explained in quick words. GESTICULATING

"We are tearing into another universe very soon named 'Sorairo.' There are hostiles on the other side of this universe, ones that will be called, 'Sorairo-kun.' Intel tell us our stealth systems will work despite the threat of these well equipped enemies. They have stolen tech, scanned and assimilated it, from every known ally of the Ayenee Space Coalition that we are a part of, besides us. We don't want this to happen to our suits, our Neko bodies, and things such as William's implants or Mark's Geist."

She stopped talking and listened to a chiming tone, the MEGAMI of the ship,"Be prepared for ship instability in moments."

"That's our cue to go to comms," Eden said as she put her helmet on and watched everyone else do so before going on. "We want those pieces of tech to remain ours and ours alone. Let the Kaiyō actual worry about keeping itself safe while we're out there. We have reserve infantry if she gets in trouble." Eden took in a breath, but allowed her eyes to look over everyone, expecting questions or comments.

Walter looked at Shasse; if only she had X-Ray vision, Shasse could see Walter thinking to himself. What am I supposed to say to that? Can I even afford to boss more people around anymore? It's clear a lot of people knew that other Hyde, at least by name. Yet only a handful of people are even questioning that... Not like I'm mad about that.

Given how Walter is standing almost a foot and a half taller than she is, and also has more defined muscles than before, him standing in front of Shasse could come across as a bit intimidating.

"Let's get right to the point: I only know your name, the fact you broke the last straw, and that you are apparently one of the several people here who know my double." Walter said in a cold and hushed tone. After a moment of silence, and also a deep sense of really strong regret, he sighed. "It's stupid bizarre, and people like you calling me out will just give me an anxiety attack, alright? I'll tell you later, but... I need to put you on hold. Good day."

Taking this precious moment to ditch Shasse, Walter took off.

The Minkan stopped in his tracks, and turned his head to Eden; he could say yes, he could say no, he just has to do something. Literally any option would do right now.

"Thank you for showing concern about my well-being, Eden-Shosa, however I'd only pull out if I'm not in the mood to aim my shots." Walter pointed to his one of his shoulder-mounted automatic grenade launchers on his shoulders with a thumb. "Aim isn't a top priority for me, the mission to reclaim stolen technology is." Judging from the tone, Walter meant that to be a joke.

Walter, after that brief moment of bravado, just came to terms with just how often he has to deal with bad consequences. This might yield another batch of them. He simply walked back to Arete and Abart'huse, ready to accept whatever happens next at this point.

William's Air2 came to life and the monoeye system began to glow red. He tested each limb slowly, then moved each of the thruster nozzles on his back before taking several steps forward. The massive armor system was several times larger than the Mindys in the squad. William stopped and turned to Eden as she began to speak.

As she briefed the away team. He mentally connected himself into the squad's comms and to the ship. Once she had finished, the Nepleslian boy spoke up. "Might I suggest I take point, Shosa?" He offered. "Melee combat is my specialty." William added.

Sacre sighed at Wyatt's question. It was pretty clear that he was going to be one that she would need to watch out for. She slid up behind him in her Mindy. She was deceptively quiet despite her freakishly tall stature. Part of it was that was because she didn't make the normal footsteps that most people were used to. "If the pea that rattles around in your skull misfires as it is so often prone to and you decide to take a bullet to the face, I'll be the one doing Surgery." She said, putting a bit too much enthusiastic emphasis on the word 'surgery'. With his attention focused on her, she used a slight of hand trick to make a scalpel appear seemingly out of nowhere and then twirling it before making it disappear again.

Wyatt half turned around to face the tall stranger who had slithered up behind him, he crossed his arms and sighed a little at her attempt at either insult or intimidation, it still failed to elicit much of a reaction regardless of what it was intended to.

"Who shoved a stick up your arse, Mrs high and mighty?" Wyatt spoke, his tone towards the snake-lady was indifferent.

"Get that toothpick out of my face and go wave it at somebody who cares, thank you" he added, being done speaking to her and deciding to turn back to Miles.

Miles smirked under his helmet, clearly Wyatt hadn't heard of Sacre or the tails tales surrounding her name and he put a hand on the minkan's shoulder. "Take it from me you don't want to be talking to the only person qualified for major surgery and long distance patient retrieval like that, sure i can stabalise you and fix things like broken bones and small holes but if you lose a limb or get twisted weirdly she is your only hope in the field." Turning to Sacre Miles spoke once more, "If possible could you excuse him this once, looks like he hasn't run missions before and I doubt he knew who he was talking to, I'll make it my job to show him the ropes."

Shasse scowled after Walter at his cold tone and his dismissal of her concerns, "Well it's not like any of us knew that, is it you idiot." she spoke to herself as he moved back over to Arete and Abart and casually started acting impressed all over again, she considered chasing after him and demanding more answers but decided against it knowing she was more likely to get angry at, as far as she was concerned was an imposter. Instead the blue neko placed the helmet on her head and sealed her suit before checking over her weapons, "Hope after ditching me like that you can at least make some friends who will watch your back, and you better hope my aim isn't off" she thought to herself moving over to wait at the assembly point away from the others.

"No, don't excuse me" Wyatt started up, moving his body so that he was facing both people Miles and the snake.

"If she is held in such high regard, then she should have no problem dropping personal issues to do her job, otherwise I can't see why she is so revered" Wyatt looked for some kind of indication of her rank.

"Nor how she ever got promoted" His voice was still mostly monotone, but there was a slight hint of mockery.

Mark joined the others before answering Chlorate's statement, "I don't know honey, I didn't know him long enough."

"So, you guys ready to show these guys not to steal? It will be good to fighting with you guys. By the way who's the new guy?", Mark said to them before gesturing to Wyatt.

Alastair could tell the team was pumped and ready for action. His mind and body were ready for this. He gave a nod to Eden as he walked over to Walter who seemed very eager for some fighting.

"Walter, friend, buddy, pal. I over heard you talking with Eden and I must say you are very eager to get into the fight to secure that technology. So what better place than the front lines so you are first to get there." Alastair said with a smile as he looked over the group. "Good fighting to you all and Arete, feel free to keep an eye on Walter during the fight." He said with a smile.

He turned and looked to Wyatt. "Wyatt, save the fire for the enemy. Miles has a point and nerves make people do silly things. Let it slide, can take it up after the mission if needed." He said in a firm voice.

Lastly he looked over to Mark. "Lets do this, show those fools not to steal tech not given to them." He let out a deep hurrah.

Sacre stood there for a moment, looking down at Wyatt. As annoying as he was being, being an abrasive jerk was not something that disqualified you from being in the Star Army, otherwise she wouldn't be here either. She nodded in Miles and Alastair's direction, acknowledging their comments. "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally, but it's the exceptionally foolish squirrel that throws it away. Except for the stench that your clearly inadequate hygiene routine routinely fails to hide, which is your personal issue rather then mine, there are no personal issues between us. As for my promotions, they have generally arrived after I find myself surrounded by people with the survival instincts of depressed lemmings and I have been forced to save them from the injuries that their overeager attitudes have inflicted upon them." Sacre paused a moment then acted like she got an idea, "You appear to be just the 'dashing' type to be the first to discover the hard way just how much injury the enemy can deal out. I wonder how far they would promote me for dragging your near corpse back to life. Then again, with what you add to the Star Army, I might get a demotion instead."

"Aye ma'am." Gravity replied curtly, easing the bow of the ship two degrees to port. Her drumming only eased her excitement by a little bit. She desperately wanted some music, but knew that wouldn't go over so well in combat conditions. The ship's engines and guns would have to be her music.

As a way to distract herself and calm her nerves, she opened up a private channel to her favorite snake. She figured that if things were going to get as bad as the captain said, she wanted to take an opportunity to annoy the medic one last time. Also, after that sad, awkward moment in the med-bay, she wanted to subtly remind the separa'shan not to do anything to get herself killed. Sacre worried her a little in that regard.

"Hey there ice-queen," she muttered quietly into her communicator. Her voice would carry into the medic's helmet. "...Uh, just wanted to say... good luck, and... stay safe... I need someone to patch me up in the future."

Wyatt stood there and waited for the rant to be over, and oh boy, what a rant it was. She probably thought that using a wide vocabulary and metaphors made that side of a pointless argument more valid than the other, equally as pointless, side.

When another Minkan male stood in to try and end this squabble, Wyatt agreed that it was just that - A petty squabble and not one that he started.

The Itto Hei marksman was getting tired of this all, and voiced this opinion. "Are you quite done yet? because this is going nowhere."

He had the same tone of indifference in his voice that he started the conversation with.

Katsu was a little bit late, having been in the holo training room to shoot various weapons at a vitual gun range. As such he arrived to the power armor bay with a bit of delay, meaning that most were already fully dressed as he ran past them. He was sill wearing his training clothings, which thankfully were thin enough though to be worn inside the Mindy, and he had his black goggles on his eyes. At least one advantage of being a furry like him, was that there was no sweat that could be smelly. Next to him floated a little drone, a simple unarmed assistant drone. As such he arrived to his armor, a simple Mindy with the Sylph wing drones and some flare launchers at the legs, and the aether submachinegun hanging on the side, in addition to the service pistol and two knifes, and instantly started squeezing himself into the armor. Getting the tail in was quite a hassle, but he didn't care too much about the grooming he would have to do later on. While he got into it properly, the assistant drone fixed itself to the lower back of the suit to hang there and come along.

Once he was in the suit and had it close itself around him, he started hopping on the spot, making little light jumps in order to warm his body up. Looking around at the crew, he smiled as he saw that Eden was doing the same. As she started her briefing though, he stopped with the warming up and moved closer to hear what she was saying. At the order, he slided on his helmet, his ears laid back flat against his head, but were still a bit clenched underneath the protective headwear. As it was said that they were to expect instabilities within moments, he quickly moved to the side to hold onto something along the side walls. Either way though, this here seemed to be the perfect moment to ask mission critical questions, so he spoke up. "Ma'am, can you give a quick summary of what those Sorairokun are? Any known resistances or weeknesses? Known combat style? What are our Rules of Engagement? How many and what kind of hostiles can we expect? Is there mission critical equipment we have to retrieve since they stole tech?" It was a bit apparent to most probably, that his Yamataigo wasn't great.

The sage shivered. It seemed all in a matter of a few seconds, half a dozen people had walked in, then a fight nearly broke out between some soldier and a medic, then the Second Officer came in to break it up and now she was being told to watch Walter? Tapping her fingers against each other, Arete simply sighed before slowly meandering over to where Walter was, as she was told to do. It's best to listen to the command staff even if their words were a... "suggestion".
