Mission Twelve: Naze Sorairo

PA Bay

The fact that Walter's situation became even more complicated than he'd like is just... Honestly, he's felt a hearty brew disappointment, embarrassment, and guilt stirring in his gut the moment Alastair called him out. It might have been vague to others, but Walter knew that this was the officer trying to squeeze some romantic feelings out of the two of them.

Walter sighed, and wondered why he let Alastair be his wingman in the first place. Heck, why is he constantly being tossed around in stressful situations like this in the first place, always being called out by everyone? Walter just wanted to blend it and be a part of something, and not feel so self-conscious and awkward for just being here.

After a moment of silence passed, Walter spoke up. "... So, how does it feel being on your first real mission?" He kept his voice down, spoke gingerly, and didn't look her way.

Deck IV shower room

Darwin was midway through lathering his hair when the intercom blasted out for all members of the crew to report to their respective stations. That meant the Power Armor bay for the human. His heart stopped when he gripped the latch for the shower door only to find it jammed in place as a cruel joke by fate itself, his soapy fingers slipping and sliding around the latch clumsily. His haste didn't help it, either, his heart racing in fear of whatever chewing out he may receive at his inevitable tardiness. While his fingers were grasping, his head was racing for a last-ditch plan to get to the PA bay without looking like a soaking wet cat.

It wasn't hard to keep his hair in its usual style once it was dried, with it only being a tinge fluffier than normal upon leaving the towel's rush along his scalp.

His clothes clung to him as he made his way towards the PA bay, with it almost feeling like steam leaving him, stray droplets making it feel even worse for Darwin. What awful timing. The doors to the Power Armor Bay were flung open and a sigh like a dying fan left his lungs, shoulders drooping and eyes rolling back in relief at the sight of all of the others still getting ready.

"S-Sorry I'm late" he stammered. The smile of a fool spread across his cheeks.

Deck V Power Armor Bay

He didn't bother explaining himself, only stepped towards the polished Mindy propped neatly in its space, freshly cleaned not long ago after the incident in the forest. He could thank Miles for helping him with that. It was a pain getting all of the blood out of the crevices in the armor. It was a frustrating satisfaction getting to know the suit a little better.

Over the past while, he had begun to grow a smidge used to undressing in front of his comrades, but it aided in him learning to don the Mindy Armor relatively quickly.

It immediately began to wick the excess moisture away from the human the moment he pulled it on, feeling like a hardened secondary skin. Before putting on the helmet, he thought to do a clean sweep of the room at the rest of the team's faces just to see them with his own eyes alone. At the back of his neck, dread gripped against the bit of hair growing from it, whispering about mission eleven in vivid detail, painting the image of Shasse, of the forest's looming flora. He shook his head. Things will be different this time, and he knew it.

He just knew they will.

The helmet locked in place with a click. What was initially a dark bowl around his head steadily bloomed into a perfect image of the room around him just like he had seen before but... a tinge different. He couldn't tell if it was the HUD, or how the cameras interpreted the PA Bay's hustle and bustle, but it always felt off to the human how clear and yet unclear everything was. In the corner of his eye, he could see numbers indicating the current status of his entire suit. How much ammo is left in his pistol, for example.

He wondered what piloting these machines must be like for the Nekovalkyrja, the ones with SPINE built into their backs, capable of linking directly into the Mindy with nary a hitch, letting them pilot them even without a helmet (not that a mission such as this would allow for such a situation). He always felt like such a device tapped into the armor in an almost intimate way, linking the two and letting the pilot practically become the machine itself. He wondered why a human such as him was unable to receive such a treatment. Was his bloodline really incapable of getting a chip inserted into his system? He might propose the question to one of the XOs or maybe one of the higher ups on break or something if he ever gets the chance.

But those thoughts were tucked away while his gaze turned towards the ceiling of the PA Bay, as though he could peer through it and See Hoshi standing before Gravity and everyone else around her, giving out orders. He had no clue just why this mission was going happen until Eden had stood up to announce their exact intentions the moment he could imagine seeing the Chusa, snapping him back to reality and drawing his amber stare towards the Shosa.

Another dimension. It hadn't really been very long since they entered that of Ayenee, and they were jumping once more to one he had never heard of before.

Though he had heard the word "Sorairo" before. Never in the context of a dimension, just in Yamataigo conversations about the weather, or about what color of flower a customer in his mother's shop was looking for. Coriolis Coast Forget-Me-Nots always came to mind when he heard the word.

Perhaps the universe has an odd azure tint to it that gives it its name?

When Darwin entered the little blue neko was still off by herself with a mixture of anger, confusion and anxiety running through her head, the incident with this, "new Walter" had shaken her and she didn't know how to feel about the whole situation. First he disappears for a while then comes back but after they get to a new dimension, she supposed his story of not being the same Walter made sense then but at the same time she wished he'd just talk to her to ease her confusion if nothing else. As a result she didn't notice Darwin wander into the bay and continued to unload and reload her weapons performing an increasing number of pointless checks.

Miles meanwhile was trying not to guess how long it would be until Wyatt found himself under the knife at the hands of Sacre with a very unsympathetic look plastered across her face, he didn't consider himself to know Sacre better than anyone but he did spend the most time around her while on the ship. Her personality and moods were less of a surprise to him now and he instead felt sorry when someone collected a monor injury while she was on duty, knowing they would be grilled half to death on how careless they were.

"Look you two, lets not let this escalate any further I don't feel like cleaning up splattered crew member if a fight breaks out, and before you try to reassure me otherwise that it couldn't possibly happen just consider that it may not be one of you two who splatters the other." While Miles was by nature, one of the more timid of the crew having lived under the shadow of Miko and Alastair his life, in his time on the Kaiyo and around Sacre he had developed much better control of his voice and actions around others. "Wyatt although I can see you outrank me I think it's best you come with me for the moment and I can explain some of the aspects of the ship you don't get taught in basic.

"I'd like point as well if possible, I don't know if we are dividing into teams, but I am well trained in CQC shosa. Wyatt right? It's best not to let her get under your skin, she can be brash, but she does her job well. Take it like the soldier you are and weather it.", Mark said hailing Eden before checking the IFF on the "new guy".

"Alastair sir is there any particular place you want me? I've got drones, an autocannon, and plasma katana. Give me a target and I'll hit em like an orbital strike.", Mark added finding sight of Alastair, the only person to know his secret hopefully so far.

Wyatt wasn’t sure why people kept telling him to stop when it was her who had chosen to go out of her way to insult his intelligence and wave a scalpel in his face, he wasn’t the one that was raising his voice and acting like her word was final, she could have been among the greatest medical personnel in the enrirety of known space and he wouldn’t accept it as a reason to take her uninstigated amd spontaneous bullshit.

“Duly noted, I’ll ignore the insults and threats next time she waves a knife at me” Wyatt spoke in his usual monotone voice, although there was a slight hint of sarcasm in his voice before he turned back to Miles.

“Sure thing Miles, lead on, this place is getting too crowded for me” and with that he started lumbering away deeper into the belly of the beast, keen to find out what had changed in his... off time.

"Understood Chusa, right away." The S&S snake replied, tapping at some various bits and bobs on her screen. "Engineering personnel, please confirm all systems' combat ready status. Ship will commence mission shortly." It was a simple, straightforward act, yet these kinds of small actions were vital to the intricate chain of command that kept these mighty warships running.
"Shouldn't be too long now....."

Alastair spoke up in reply to Mark. "What I like to hear. Bring them hell." He said with a chuckle knowing just how true that statement was. "I was planning on tailing you this mission. I also got drones so thinking we can do alot of damage on the battlefield." As he finished he made his way over to Mark to form up with one of his team.

He caught sight of Shasse, and remembered how he hadn't spoken to her even after the events of the last mission. He had intended to approach her and speak, and yet duties had gotten in the way. While now may not be the best time, what with the oncoming fight on the horizon of a new universe, he pulled himself across the PA bay over to where she stood. Though it was not his station, maybe a little talk might be able to ease some of his nerves.

He's a newbie to the battlefield despite all that had gone on since he joined the Kaiyo, so to say his nerves were sparking up a storm in the back of his neck, sending shots of adrenaline up and down his veins would be accurate. It felt like his body was vibrating, and all of his cells were going to burst to pieces. A bead of sweat dripped down his temple only to be wicked away by the suit.

"Uh, hey, Shasse." He raised a hand only slightly. He was never good at small talk, really. He could speak to somebody of authority like a teacher or a higher up in regards to what was important, but, speaking to those around him was always Power Armor Engineering to him. "Uhm... good to see you up and about after the last mission."

Hoshi stood up from her chair on the bridge and her small arms splayed out to the sides of her little body as she yelled out, "Jôtô Heisho! I was not asking about combat readiness of the ship but it's ability to step out of this universe and into a very unknown one by utilizing an often unused piece of highly dangerous technology..." She sat back down and crossed her legs. "Or did the mission escape your recollection? If it did, please allow one of the bridge officers to explain it to you. If not, continue with your job."

Asuka looked to Nerai with a nervous, but almost impassive gaze, "I am not getting readings on if the TTD is stabilized. Can you ask engineering if it is ready to be engaged by the pilot?"

Hoshi closed her eyes and checked in with Eden in encrypted telepathic communication, "Hold steady, minor hiccup."

Power Armor Bay

Eden looked to people buddying up already and she shook her head and spat sharply into comms, "We don't have teams until I say we do. For now, your team is who you're next to on the ground."

"Nobody's suggesting anything," Eden said about William asking to take point. "Questions like Katsu-hei's are welcome." She got the message from Hoshi and then added as she looked around, "I will answer our resident Neshaten's many questions." She ended the sentence with a chuckle and had emphasized the word, 'many.' Then, the Shosa added "Is everyone listening?

At Eden's reply, William grimaced in his armor. 'Baka... you should have worded that better.' He thought to himself. His armor remained motionless for a brief moment. "Understood Ma'am." William replied simply. His massive suit then turned and strode away.

The Nepleslian turned to the several people arguing and rolled his eyes. To save his poor ear drums, he mentally muted everyone except the command channel. If someone needed him they would ping him anyway. He moved past everyone and walked towards launch platform. Once he reached the doors, he stopped and turned, waiting silently. In the suit, William closed his eyes and waited for the show to start...

Shasse looked up at Darwin with a huge grin splitting her face as she heard his voice having not seen him for a while, "HEY DARWIN! I never saw you after the last mission where'd you go, I tried to find you..." she trailed off before replacing all her equipment in their appropriate slots before taking off the helmet with all her hair pressed against her on all sides thanks to the suit. She moved the few strands away from her face and grinned up at him, "Yeah I did get a little scratched up didn't I? Not to worry though just a little cut and bruise, nothing I can't handle."

Shasse stood up and moved towards him as though she wanted to say something but instead of opening her mouth launched herself at the human wrapping her arms around his back in a quick hug before she hopped backwards. "Consider that to be my thanks for saving me, I've been trying to find you since Sacre let me leave the medbay." she seemed to pause slightly, "I know you might think I'm just being my usual crazy self but, I really do mean it. Thank you Darwin you saved me from a whole lot of pain by finding me when you did, I don't remember everything but I know that much at least."

Miles nodded at Wyatt glad he could finally get him out of the conversation with Sacre, he stopped the other man once they’d moved away from the other medic, “Ok so first off, as much as I can understand wanting to defend yourself, you haven’t met Sacre and I guess didn’t get trained to deal with the diversity of this ship but you’re not alone there. Anyway Sacre is just someone who often speaks her mind and makes judgments which are usually quite accurate based on her experiences.”

Miles knew Sacre would appear much differently to someone who’s never met her than to his own eyes, after all who can blame them when she comments on your combat efficiency and waves a blade around. “Point is, there’s a lot of different people on the ship and despite her actions she is crucial to our operations, and don’t take her comments to heart it’s best just to laugh them off.” Miles wasn’t sure how he would react having seen him get this riled up from some simple comments earlier, “just another member who will fit in with their own quirk soon enough.” He thought to himself hoping he’d understand what he was trying to say.

Wyatt let out a very brief chuckle and crossed his arms over his chest before he started speaking, "Listen, I'm all for what you called diversity, but if somebody comes up to me and starts flinging insults then I'll say something back, it may not be more insults but it will be something"

He let out a long exhale and his brow furrowed a little bit under his helmet, "But look, I'm not the kind of person to hold grudges over somebody talking shit to me, because that would be pretty pathetic on my behalf and I don't doubt that she's good at her job... but..."

The marksman ceased talking briefly and scrapped what he was going to say, opting to say something different instead.

"If it's laughter you want then maybe get her a joke book, eh?"

Alastair took note of William wanting to be point man. This was working out well having Walter and William leading the pack. Granted this had been curbed by Eden but this did not mean on the battlefield this would not come to pass.

He looked over his records and noted the strengths of the armors and abilities of each team member. This was a group fight for sure but he wanted to be sure the right people should they get split up could support each other. He looked over to Walter and Arete who Seemed to have paired up. Eden might be putting the breaks on this but he felt better knowing Walter would be around her. Team work makes the dream work after all.

"Roger Eden, listening, comms are your for the briefing".

Darwin was taken aback by the sudden hug, blinking and raising his arms with fingers splayed trying to keep his balance from her meeting his torso. Before he could do much else, she had already popped away, She couldn't see it under his helmet, but a slight smile was propped beneath that mask. "Eheh." the human would stammer, picking up is thoughts from the ground like books knocked from the hand of a student. She looked much different without hemosynth plastering her head. Come to think of it, this was the first time he had ever really gotten a good look at her.

"The thought didn't occur to me. Oh, and... no need to thank me. I couldn't have just left you there with your arm twisted and your head battered." He reaches up to pull off the helmet, the suit immediately becoming dead weight around him with an audible clanking sound. "It's a good thing we were all in a squad. Dunno how bad it could have been if we all soloed that cluster."

Sacre turned away with her own message from Gravity, "There aren't any trees around here, so I think your safe. Just don't make me come back here and fix the mess you made again." She said sternly. She filtered into the crowd of armors, checking passively that everyone had managed to put their suits on correctly so they would be ready. She would probably need to keep an eye on Darwin, he seemed clumsy with his suit. She would need to keep an eye on all of them. She wasn't going to let any of them die in a strange universe if she could help it. When Eden asked for attention, she turned to listen what the XO had to say.

"Well I've thanked you now, so whats that stare for." Shasse smirked at the human noticing his eyes traveling her face, "I do hope you didn't look at me like that while I was out of it, that would be totally embarrassing." The little blue neko seemed to be enjoying teasing him and let out a small giggle before hitting him lightly on the shoulder, "Hopefully we wont have to go through that ordeal again, now c'mon everyone else seems to be getting ready."

As Shasse darted off towards Alastair to get into position Miles tried unsuccessfully to stifle a laugh at the comment made by Wyatt, "If only you knew how funny that was, I think you'll fit right in soon enough and I think you'd be the only person who could pull off trying to give Sacre a joke book. Anyway how's your mindy? if you're all set we should probably meet up with the group that seems to be forming." Oliver said seeing his blue friend running towards his brother, "Well I'm glad she's up and moving again." he thought to himself.

It seemed like an age before Arete returned a response to Walter's query: "It's been alright. I don't really know what to feel. Do ah, does the crew normally get this... Talkative right before a mission? It's like they never meet each other in between assignments..." She looked about the bay as the various other people suited up, chatted, and even verbally fought a little bit.

Ohboi...... force of habit. "Right away ma'am." Having experoienced moments like this for over 6 years now, she'd gotten used to this kind of reprimand. Just stick to your professionalism and sort it our ight away rathern than apologize or make silly excuses, those can come another time.

"Copy that engineering. Also helm reports getting no TTD stability readings, please confirm if TTD is stable and ready for operation..... and get that reading error fixed a.s.a.p." Heck. That's what happens when one gets too caught up in their routine...

The snake was unusually silent throughout the whole ordeal, partially because of listening to what the others were up to, and partially because he was still chewing away at his jerky. Nomming on one of the last bits, he but his stash away in the buttpack and closed off the helmet, making sure it was on tight by giving it another quick yank with his arms.

Next up was a weapons check, running through his armaments and munitions, the latter of which was more crucial, being one of the few soldiers here preferring physical projectiles over aetheric or plasma weapons. LASR munitions: all accounted for, SLAG rounds: present, spare mags for ASP: check, gauss rounds: okay, flasbangs and other 'nades: yup, missles: locked and loaded.

Finishing his check he put the last few mags in their storage spot under his shield, adorning his left arm. At times he thought about how something as simple as a physical ellipsoid shield was still used in the midst of missiles, lasers and interdimensional spaceships. Then again, with how useful it had been to him this far, it was no surprise. As they were primarily a defence against ranced weapons, why would they be eny les useful against guns than javelins or arrows?.......briefly disregarding the difference in destructive power.....

Anyways, it seemed like eden was about to say something i portant again, better listen... "Aye Shosa, all pointy ears!"

Walter took the moment to look around, and concluded that the Kaiyo crew was constituted of definitely livelier individuals. Despite that, the mission itself, as well as the prospect of his double having enlisted, made him feel kind of nervous. "I wish I had a answer, but I have... Ehm, I've never been on a ship before. Not like this one, anyway."

He sent Arete a private telepathic message to her to at least alleviate his nerves. I'll admit it, I'm a little nervous about this mission. Dimension hopping and all that, you know? Walter isn't sure if admitting some of his fears would help him vent his anxiety, but he supposed it was better than punching a wall.

The young Hyde cut the connection when Eden-Shosa asked for everyone's attention, and remained by Surinus-Hei's side as he gave the Shosa his attention.
