Ahlias would find that no rope was needed. Using the rocks as a series of large steps, he was able to climb the building with relative ease. Anyone who tried should be able to follow his path.

On the roof, you see that the building has a flat top. It is covered with rubble from the cavern cave ins. There is gravel spread out all cross the roof, and on the north side, a large gaping hole from where a chunk of ceiling crashed down onto and through the roof.

Ahlias reaches the roof and peers down from above. "Come on up! It's clear, and make sure you bring some rope!" The Warrior unhooked his greatsword and kneeled near the hole, the sword leaning against the roof surface as Ahlias investigated the dark below.

Spot check: 10 Spot check. (1d20=10)

{OOC: I think its safe to assume that Alo and Gorfan come up as well. If not, I'm sure they will correct me.}

Ahlias, being a human instead of a dwarf or a half-orc, can't see inside very well. The light given off by the torches shows several glints of metal, lots of rocks, which probably came from the roof caving in, and some cabinets and shelves with unrecognizable items from this distance. Aside from that, there isn't much to see from the roof.

Soryn

With somewhat of a grin, the rogue motions to Ahlias. "You first again." The rogue still held the sunrod from before, though having had to carry it through the battle had been a bit of a task. ((Most of the actions I made did not require two hands during battle I think so its plausible right? Correct me if I am wrong.)) He'd wait to see who would be the first to brave the hole...for it surely wouldn't be him.

{OOC: With a 20 ft drop, you can jump in, and take 1d6 Non lethal damage. Or, you can do like Ahlias, and attempt to negate that damage with a Jump Check or a Tumble Check. The DC is 15 to negate the non-lethal damage. I'll wait until everyone gets a chance to make their check before continuing on.}

Ahlias crouches down, and falls forward, head first. He somersaults forward and comes out of the tuck just enough to slow his rotation to the point where he can absorb the blow of the fall into his legs and feet. Some might think he had some acrobatic training. Others just might think he got lucky. Whatever the case, he manages to stick the landing like a pro and walk away without a scratch.

{OOC: I love describing the use of action points.}

{OOC: Tuck and roll, people. Tuck and roll. Bah. Moving on...}

Inside the Foundry

Once you are all inside and start looking around you see the damage caused by the caved in ceiling. Several cabinets and shelves are crushed undernearth. The remains of what appear to be a metal dog are also jutting out from the heavy rock that broke through the roof of the foundry.

Elsewhere, dusty shelves, intact, line the southern wall, and a huge forge and furnace fill the eastern part of the room. Neither appear to have been used in centuries.

Before a more detailed search can be made, two pairs of glowing eyes emerge from the darkness at the far side of the wall. As they enter the light of the torches, you can see that they are actually a pair of metal dogs, which are creeping cautiously forward towards you.

(Example of what you see)

{OOC: Roll initiative!

No Surprise round. If you want to post your action with your initiative for Round 1, go ahead. The monsters got 17 for initiative.}

Round 1

Initiative (1d20+1=15)

((When Alo's turn arrives))

Alo spoke the words that the others would have heard him use every time they'd spotted a warforged. He made the arcane gestures, and then he got lucky. There was the usual flash, but where normally there would have been a bolt of magical energy, arching its way towards the changeling's intended target, instead there were two. Each hit the nearest metal dog (1) with a crackle of magical energy.

((Spent 1 action point - upped MM caster level to 3)

Initiative Check = 12

With menacing crimson looking their way, all he does is take a quick look at Ahlias and then shift to the dog that had attacked Gorfan. Ahlias would be able to fend off the beast for the time being but the sight of the attack against Gorfan motivated the rogue to move in for an attack. The heat of the moment produced a crazy idea entirely driven by some blind hope of his. The rogue attempted to tumble his way into a position, moving southwest and then south so the dog that had taken a bite out of Gorfan would be helpless against his attack.

Tumble Check Rolls (1d20+7) = 11,18,20,8

Attack if everything is successful (1d20+5)=13

Action Point to assist in attack (1d6) = 6

Dmg roll (1d6) = 4; Sneak Attack (1d6) = 4

Initiative in Foundry (1d20=12)

Gorfan swings round to confront this new threat in the form of the metal beasts coming towards them. He instinctually cast Protection from Evil +2(domain spell) on the party in the face of the attacks.

(OOC: Protection from Evil gives +2 to AC and saves, counter mind control, hedge out elementals and outsiders....so you guys get +2 AC to your current AC )

Monsters
Round 1

The dogs start moving, and their speed is quite impressive. The first goes directly towards Gorfan and lunges at the dwarf. The sharp metal fangs dig into the flat-footed dwarf's meaty flesh. (8 dmg)

The second dogs advances towards Soryn. It gets right up next to him, and looks like it is about to pounce, but it stops short, then turns away from Soryn, and attacks Ahlias instead. The metal dog clamps its teeth down on Ahlias, but doesn't manage to pierce his armor.

When Alo's pair of magic missiles strike the dog attacking Gorfan, it knocks the beast off of him, causing severe damage. Unfortunately, its not enough to disable the beast completely.

Soryn starts weaving through the area threatened by the dogs, but again, they completely ignore him. It seems his tumbling was unnecessary. Regardless of the dogs interest in attacking Soryn, he has an interest in attacking them. He lines up a perfect shot to pierce the jugular of the metal dog... which doesn't really have a jugular, so the sneak attack fails to take effect. However, the normal damage takes hold and the dog is further damaged from the rapier's puncture. In a display of impressive showmanship, Soryn scratches a large 'S' into the side of the dog with his rapier.

Gorfan starts casting a spell and the dog that was attacking him uses the opportunity to attack again. Fortunately for Gorfan, his armor protects him from further damage this time. Unfortunately for Gorfan, his spell only works against Evil creatures, and these creatures are not evil.

{OOC: Sorry guys. Gorfan's spell does not give you an AC bonus against these creatures.}

Ahlias
HP: 12
AC: 13

Initiative (1d20+4=15)

Ahlias was caught in a stupor for a moment, his eyes glazed at the materials, dusty and magnificent, that sat mostly undisturbed around him. The cave-in had blocked much of the forge, and little of value remained, but what did prodded the Warriors sense of adventure. Morgrave would surely recognize him now...

And then he felt the stinging clamp of the metal canines jaws lock onto his leather-armored bicep, and only a quick backstep and a yank ripped himself free from the metallic jaws. Cursing, Ahlias drew the majestic Greatsword from its resting place at his side and threw it into a powerful counterattack sure to split the metal seems of the attacking sentinal apart if it connected with full force.

Regardless, he had to keep the beast entertained while the spellcasters did their work!

Round 1 - Condluded

Ahlias brings his weapon to bear against the construct and rends a gaping hole in the beasts side, revealing gears and circuits grinding along inside.

Ahlias - 15+ - Red
Alo - 15 - Green
Soryn - 12+ - Blue
Gorfan - 12 - Yellow

Monsters

The first dog turns towards Soryn and growls with an artifical metallic grinding noise. It then snaps its powerful jaws at the rogue. Soryn deftly avoids the attack and the dog's teeth snap together with a clang.

The second stays focused on Ahlias and tries again to bring the fighter down. A stroke of pure luck befalls the group! The dog lunges at Ahlias' face, but Ahlias not only dodges, but ends up throwing the beast off balance for a moment. Perhaps that blow did more damage than even Ahlias first suspected, if the dog is having this much trouble having any effect in this fight.

{OOC: I rolled two natural 1's in a row... you lucky lucky bastard...}

Ahlias
HP: 12
AC: 13

Ahlias kept his weight on his back foot for balance, his mighty slash tearing a hole into the side of the mechanical creatures neck. It had charged again, but Ahlias was quicker, and the metal brute actually tripped itself up!

Ahlias wasted no time in taking intitiative to the monster, and his Greatsword slashed down once more, this time to finish the mechanical guardian.

Ahlias

Ahlias takes the blade of his sword and runs the mechanical dog through. The corpse hangs lifeless from the blade and with a final display of power, Ahlias flips the body up into the air and cuts it completely in twain before it even hits the ground.

Once the body settles on the ground, the head of the dog rolls to Ahlias' foot where it comes to a rest. An audible click can be heard as the red light fades from the guardian's eyes, and a rectangular rod pops out of the decapitated head.
