Perma-Newbie
Sharn, City of Towers

The four of you have been travelling along the main road towards Sharn for a few days now, and you have finally passed into the city of Sharn, your destination. The skies have been threatening rain all morning long, but so far, it has only been a threat. The streets seem almost empty, probably the weather keeping most people inside today.

{OOC: Que character introductions.}

Alo
HP: 7/7
AC: 11 (VT:11, FF: 10)

The elf Alosoleth walked along the road with his friend Kyru, and the others two travellers they had met along the way. His rucksack was bulging from the books and clothes within. He wore a set of sturydy travelling clothes, complete with comfortable boots and a warm cloak. His quarterstaff he used as a walking stick, and his eyes were pointed upwards at the towers of the city.

He's never been to Sharn before, and already his mind was racing through all the possibilities to learn new spells. He couldn't employ his tricks with the others around. Kyru thought he was an elf, and the others he still did not know particularly well.

"So what do you think we do now Kyru?" He asked, and he used common out of politeness to the other two.

Garfon
HP: 10
AC: 16 (VT:10, FF:16)

Gorfan travelled stolidly along the road leading up to the City of Towers, Sharn, in front of himself and his three other travelling companions, two of whom seemed to be closely acquanted with one another, but he couldn't know for certain. One of the two seemed to be an elf, one of those merry smarts-of-all-trades elves...but he didn't look too bad for an elf. The other looked to be an elf also by appearances, and his other travelling companion seemed to be one of those frugal monks from afar.

Gorfan stroked his holy symbol of Baldrei of the Sovereign Host. Many a year had he been apart of that order and yearned to extend the influence of Baldrei. His gruff exterior were one of the only things potentially hindering the dwarf's ambition up until the present.

" Hopefully," Gorfan pondered beneath his breath," Sharn shall possess the means necessary to join an adventuring party of sorts...maybe those three could help" Gorfan gazed upon the other travellers as he mused over this, including over the elven wizard and rogue conversing nearby.

The Monk

Amnile

HP 9/9
AC 13

Amnile walked stiocly next to Garfon as the two elves lead. He wears a typical monk's outfit and walks with a quarter staff. The man gazed at the towers in amazement. He had never seen such a large settlement, even after he left the monastary to see the world. No one ever gained real world experience by staying at home, so monks are sent out into the dangers of the world to learn. The first lesson Amnile learned was a simple one. Mages smell bad. Sure they blame the stench on their spell components, but Amnile wondered if they ever really bathe. Of course he would never dare to bring this question up to a wizard or sorcerer for fear of being hit with lightning or fire. As they continued the monk asked the Cleric,"Garfon, Have you ever been in a place this big?"

Where do we go from here?

Kyru
HP:7
AC:16 (FF:12, T:14)

It looked like rain was in the forseeable future.

Generally, the threat of rain was only a slight annoyance to Kyru. But he had often heard that in Sharn, when it rained one day, it took 4 or 5 before it had completely made it's way through the entirity of the massive City of Towers. And everyone had agreed that's where they were going.

Kyru's stomach growled just as Alo had finished saying "So what do you think we do now Kyru?" Kyru smirked and looked over to his friend and business associate, "Well, I intend on finding me an Inn that has a decent tribex and halfling-potato dinner for a reasonable price and calling it a day."

Something always seemed a little off about Alo. Kyru always chalked it up to him being a Wizard. In his 151 winters, he had never met a one of those stuffy bookworms that he did not feel a little odd around. Perhaps it was knowing that with a few gestures of their hands, you could be a squating toad for the rest of your life.

After a moment of letting idle chatter pass between the other two travelers, Kyru announced, "Hey everyone, you want to spend our first evening in Sharn together? We could pool our resources. Maybe spring for a decent Inn stay, a decent feast, and possibly a little excitement in one of the notorious Sharn bordellos?" He added the last remark half-heartedly as a joke to razz the Cleric.

Alo chuckled. "I seem to recall our last visit to a Bordello is the reason we find ourselves here in Sharn." He laughed again then weighed up his coin purse in his hand. It wasn't too light, but he knew for a fact that the standard of luxury he longed for after the journey would eat into his finances quite a bit.

"I go where you go then Kyru"

((Hope you don't mind me adding to the backstory a bit. We need to work out which city it was that they left in a hurry btw.))

Sharn, Kelsa Spire

The threat of poor weather is made good by nature. As you pass by a signpost indicating you are in the vicinity of the Kelsa Spire, curtains of water fall from from the sky. Your outer clothing and gear quickly gets wet as you traverse the labyrinthine walkways of Sharn. The stone and wooden paths wind around and between the towers and spires high above the ground, forming a complete latticework that can be very confusing on evenings such as this.

The rain falls hard, running off higher walkways and balconies in drenching waves, making it difficult to see much more than a few feet ahead of you. The distant glow of everbright lanterns, barely visible in the soaking gloom, does little to light the paths on this warm, wet evening.

{OOC: Can everyone please give me a Spot check?}

Sharn, Kelsa Spire

Alo and Kyru seem to be wrapped up in their discussion of entertainment options, but Gorfan and Amnile are both more observant.

They can both see a figure in a dark cloak moving quietly though the rain on the skybridge ahead of them. The figure seems to be avoiding the dim pools of light made by the Everburning Lanterns, preferring to stay to the shadows. Then, a blinding flash of lightning illuminates the area for a split second, and you see a second form, lying prone on the stone floor of the bridge. The first figure quickly reaches the railing of the skybridge, and slips over the barrier, dissappearing into the darkness and rain.

Ooo...pretty lights.

Kyru
HP:7
AC:16 (FF:12, T:14)

Oblivious to the shadowy stalker, the flash-bang snapped Kyru out of his revelry, prompting him to draw his rapier. "Keeper's Claws! What in Dolurrh was that?" His voice rose only enough so that each of his compatriots can hear him. He shoots a glance to Alo, "Can you tell if that was magic?"

Alo
HP: 7/7
AC: 11 (VT: 11, FF: 10)

Alo took a moment to catch up with what was going on, then he looked through the rain in the direction Kyru was focussed. He'd not noticed anything and he wasn't sure if a spell would be able to detect a spell that was already over. He searched his memory for an answer as to whether it was magic that had caused the bang.

Garfon
HP:10
AC:16 (VT:10, FF:16)

Garfon simply watched as a shadowy figure comes into focus, avoiding the light of the lanterns upon the street and going over the skybridge ahead of them. The cleric could sense that Amnile the monk beside him had seen the figure also, and Garfon slowed his walk to a lumbering pace as he kept his eyes upon the figure, which was now on the stone bridge. The lightning flashing gave the dwarf the greatest surprise...there was a figure upon the bridge and was seemingly unmoving. Now, who would it be that would not only keep to the shadows within a lighted street, but also would not desire to be seen by them specifically? It aroused the typical suspicion that this cloaked figure was either a stranger on his own business or an arcane trickster wishing to elude everyone he or she met. Whatever it was, the figure that was lying prone upon the bridge made things more troubling, coupled with the presence of the cloaked figure, which was now out of sight for the time being.

Gorfan touched Amnile beside him and quietly asked," Ware! Could be an arcane trickster for all I know, but my experience says it is most likely otherwise..."

@Alo - You are aware that there are spells which can duplicate the effect of lightning and thunder in existence, but you do not recall studying any of them. And this particular flash seemed very natural to you. It was not accompanied by any arcane gestures, or words. It just seemed to be a natural part of the storm. The only magical source of light here is the Everburning Lanterns, and those are actually quite mundane and common.

@Garfon - You're past experience also lets you know that there are spells which could aid in hiding a person, but you see none of the tell-tale marks of such a spell. This person just appears to be stealthy. Or they did at least, since they are out of sight now.

{OOC: Are you still travelling forward along the skybridge, or have you halted progress? I saw Garfon say he was slowing...}

Alo shrugged, "it is possible to do that with magic, but I think it was most likely the storm. I could cast a spell to double check, but most likely any magical essence has already faded."

Amnile

Amnile sees the cloak figure then a prone one and yells "Stop!" He then starts heading off to the prone figure."Some one is hurt" he says calling back to his companions.

Sharn, Kelsa Spire

Amnile rushes forward onto the skybridge spanning the 60 ft distance between the two platforms of the Kelsa Spire and the Dalonna Tower. The figure isn't moving, and Amnile quickly surmises that the victim is dead. The corpse lies unmoving on the floor of the skybridge. You can see a mixture of blood and rain pooling around the body. In the hand of the figure is a leather satchel, which is quickly becoming stained with water and gore.

Something isn't right.

Kyru
HP:7
AC:16 (FF:12, T:14)

First and foremost, Kyru was a scoundrel. Many times had he seen others such as he use con-games like this to ambush and rob some well-meaning passer-bys.

Kyru crept upon the situation with the caution of a rogue coming into an instance in which all the outside factors were unknown to him. Rapier still drawn and ready, he stepped up to the body. "Hmm...something just doesn't seem right about all this." he says aloud, to everyone.

Taking to one knee, still armed, he uses his free-hand to make a cursory investigation of the corpse, while muttering a prayer to the Keeper that the recently departed find his way to Dolurrh.

(OOC: Kyru attempts to thoroughly search the corpse. 1d20+5-> [12,5] = (17))
