(10:33:05 AM) sj_the_bartender: Once everyone else goes to sleep, the night grows quiet. Only the chorus of nature's insects can be heard by Slade, along with an occassional hoot of a night owl.
(10:38:47 AM) sj_the_bartender: ((you there?))
(10:39:58 AM) Colvin: ((Yeah...was stuck on a difficult call))
(10:42:10 AM) Colvin: The fact that he didn't need any sleep or food allowed him much more time to think about things and be productive, though simply watching the group didn't require for him to do much other than sit down near the door while keeping himself in tune with his surroundings. It all seemed quiet and peaceful so it would seem that it would be an easy night for his companions.
(10:43:52 AM) sj_the_bartender: Unlike other constructs, Slade doesn't have darkvision, so he can't see much beyond shadows of shapes in the darkness.
(10:45:46 AM) Colvin: He knew generally where his companions had decided to fall asleep, but he remained immobile by the door figuring that if anything were to actually intend to harm them it would have to move through the door first.
(10:47:39 AM) sj_the_bartender: Nothing moves in the night, so things are fairly peaceful for most of the night. However, as the hour of midnight draws near, Slade finds his thoughts interrupted by the soft sound of an intruder trying to be very quiet. The sound seems to be coming from the kitchen. You know your companions are asleep in the living quarters, so it is unlikely to be one of them stirring. Nothing has gotten past your vigil, so whoever this intruder is must have come in through the backdoor, or the cellar...
(10:50:12 AM) Colvin: Bulky Warforged such as himself were not known for their subtlety but he tried to be as quiet as possible, maneuvering forward toward where he knew the kitchen was with small and hopefully quiet steps.
(10:50:27 AM) sj_the_bartender: {OOC: Move Silent Check.}
(10:50:37 AM) Colvin: {OOC: already working on it}
(10:52:53 AM) Colvin: Move Silently Check 1d20-4 = 14
(10:52:59 AM) Colvin: {OOC: how do you want the link?}
(10:53:36 AM) sj_the_bartender: ((paste the normal link from invisible castle, so it will show up when I paste this to the forums))
(10:57:15 AM) Colvin:
Move Silently Check 1d20-4 = 14
(10:58:36 AM) sj_the_bartender: You move surprisingly well through the house, and whoever, or whatever is in the kitchen has not seemed to notice your approach. You can still hear them moving around in there.
(10:59:10 AM) sj_the_bartender: However, it is pitch black inside the house, and you can't see anything in the darkness.
(11:01:39 AM) Colvin: He tried to calculate his options carefully, knowing fully well that he would not be able to see the individual unless he had some sort of light source. Hoping that the intruder will not hear him, he steps into the threshold and moves to turn on a sunrod to light up the area and catch whoever was there.
(11:02:23 AM) sj_the_bartender: As soon as you get close to the door, you hear everything go quiet. Whoever is in there stops moving. Then, you hear a snuffing sound, as if someone is sniffing for your scent. ((still turning on the sunrod?))
(11:05:19 AM) Colvin: Hesitating once he realized the movement had stopped, he stopped himself from turning on the sunrod and kept himself still and acted as if he was simply a statue, waiting to see if the intruder would simply continue whatever it was they were trying to do.
(11:07:28 AM) sj_the_bartender: Your delay seems to have worked, as the intruder stops sniffing the air, and in the next moment, you hear a muted metal clunk. Whoever is in there at least seems to be as blind as you are, and not as familiar with the layout of the house, as they seem to have knocked something over.
(11:10:43 AM) Colvin: He continued to listen and tried to determine how far the intruder was by what he heard, wanting to get the jump on whatever it was since the sniffing made it seem more animal than human. Once he got a clear estimate, he'd try to move forward a bit. {OOC: Listen check and Move Silently check required?}
(11:11:16 AM) sj_the_bartender: ((Yes))
(11:12:34 AM) Colvin:
Listen Check for Kitchen area (1d20=6)
(11:12:36 AM) Colvin:
Move Silently Check for Kitchen area (1d20-4=15)
(11:13:16 AM) sj_the_bartender: You are unable to determine an estimate of the intruder's location.
(11:13:27 AM) sj_the_bartender: ((Still moving forward into the kitchen?))
(11:13:55 AM) Colvin: ((yeah a few steps at least))
(11:15:12 AM) sj_the_bartender: You step into the kitchen, and instantly, you hear a low growling sound. There is something in here with you and it is not happy to be interrupted by you. The back door is half-open, hanging on by only a partial hinge. Almost no light enters through the door and open window on this moonless night.
(11:18:35 AM) Colvin: Freezing in place again, he very slowly lifts an arm so that his hand moves over to grab the hilt of his greatsword but does not move any further, preparing himself though not advancing to initiate battle just yet. He knew better than that.
(11:20:13 AM) sj_the_bartender: You pick out a spot of deeper black in the dark room. It is a small thing down on all fours, and backed up in the far corner of the room. It snarls again and you can barely catch a glint of white teeth. It seems to be some sort of animal, obviously attracted to the smell of the leftovers from the evening meal.
(11:21:16 AM) sj_the_bartender: You quickly surmise that it came in through the broken door, looking for an evening meal.
(11:26:11 AM) Colvin: He attempted to assess the situation, not truly caring about the animal's need for food but if it was allowed, it would be come habit. That habit would eventually become a nuisance. Mohan, however, was far better with animals than he could ever be. He still made no advance...instead he would back away to the threshold and deliberate yet again. Could he take care of this beast on his own?
(11:26:51 AM) sj_the_bartender: ((Backing away into the dining room, or out the back door?))
(11:27:11 AM) sj_the_bartender: ((Or the cellar?))
(11:28:01 AM) Colvin: ((moving toward the back door...with the intent to close it heh))
(11:28:56 AM) sj_the_bartender: You move over to the back door, and try to close it but it seems to be stuck.
(11:29:43 AM) sj_the_bartender: The creature continues to snarl, but does not advance. He seems to be just as afraid of you as you are of him, although like any cornered wild animal, he is probably dangerous.
(11:31:54 AM) Colvin: Sizing up the animal as best he could, he decides to see if he can scare it off, at the same time figuring the noise he makes might wake up Mohan's finely tuned ears and hopefully not the rest of the group. Taking out his greatsword, he rams it into the floor after keeping sharp distance away from the wolf and says with authority "Leave this place!"
