AoW: The Whispering Cairn

Mohan quickly identifies the creature as a Wolverine, thought it appears smaller than normal. Perhaps this one isn't full-grown. Fierce little creatures, that are known to fly into a rage if attacked. They normally avoid civilization, and are docile, as long as they are not threatened. Unfortunately, they are easily threatened, and vicious in their reaction. This one probably came through the broken door to eat the leftover scraps from your meal, and is now cornered with no escape. He looks like he's ready to enter a raging frenzy and attack at the slightest provocation.

"Careful Jaiden, that wolverine looks like he's just about had enough. He's got that look in his eyes that you do when you're about to throw a drunk through a window."

He paused and looked over his shoulder to see if the others were awake.

"He looks young as well. Perhaps we can clear a path and then scare him off."

Jaiden

She was pleased that Mohan was ont he same-thinking lines as herself. "He's scared and he's hungry, and this beast of steel here is only intimidating the matter." She eyed Slade from her knelt position. Breaking off a piece of the ration she asked both Mohan and Slade to leave. Not because she wanted to be left in a room with a creature that she was more like than anyone else, but because three people cornering an animal had a very un-successful outlook on it.

Slade

It didn't seem as he was getting along with Jaiden at all. Their thoughts seemed to be in contrast with one another all the time, yet if Mohan's were so in tune with her then why was it much different with their mutual friend? Whatever the matter was, he simply placed his greatsword back in its comfortable position along his back and began to move out of the room, dropping the sunrod infront of Jaiden.

((Wasted post. Thanks SJ - Mohan backed out of the room, once they were outside he whispered to Slade. "I'll wake the others, we may have to kill it yet." Then he went to wake first Fotus and then Hazrad.

To each he would say. "There is a wolverine in the kitchen. Jaiden is trying to calm it down, but we may have to kill it."

Then he sheathed his sword, along with the other he'd left where he'd been sleeping, and picked up his bow and quiver.))

Abandoned Office

Mohan goes back to the living room and wakes Hazrad and Fortus from their sleep.

Meanwhile, back in the kitchen, Jaiden tosses some food at the wolverine. The animal sniffs at the food and begins to eat it. Its eyes never leave Jaiden, although it does stop growling while its chewing.

Jaiden

She pitied the creature. It seemed that the toil on the lands was extending to the wilderness, and somehow this wolverine had wandered from it's home. She wondered if it had it's own family. She tore off another piece and tossed it to the creature.

Jaiden

She remained knelt down, and tossed one more piece, before shortening the distance of the tosses of bread. She slowly stood as she backed away continuing to place a few pieces that would essentially lead him to the door and outside.

Jaiden

She closed the door after the animal left and headed back into the room, looking to Slade. "Not everything needs to be dealt with violently." An odd statement from a barbarian. Jaiden saw animals in a much different light than people. Animals moved on instinct and without thought. They knew nothing of right and wrong and shouldn't be judged as if they did. People on the other hand were an entirely different story. She wasn't angry with Slade, for he wouldn't have known better, but in stating that sentence, she then headed to her bedroll, packaged the remainder of the ration away, and went back to sleep as if nothing had happened.

Unfortunately, Jaiden finds the door every bit as broken as Slade did, and she cannot close it. Althought it seems the creature has at least left for the night, as it quickly makes an exit once it sees no more food is coming.

Slade

Contrasting thoughts led to contrasting actions which this warforged could have none of when travelling with a group...especially one that would eventually need to work together in battle. What he knew of what Jaiden was attempting was simply an ephemeral fix, one that would end up either being of benefit in the future or simply amplifying the annoyance that had just occurred. The warforged made a note to fix that door or at least get someone too. Any entry into this place needed to be well guarded somehow

Mohan

Mohan spoke quietly to Slade once Jaiden was asleep. "That could have ended very differently. If she had tried that on the wolves in the cairn we would still be picking up pieces of her."

Hazrad

He woke once spoken to, but once he heard that Jaiden was taking care of it, he rolled back over into his slumber. He understood that Jaiden, as wild as she was, would have little difficulty coaxing another wild animal out of such a situation. He guessed that Mohan could have taken care of the matter as well, but doubted that Fortus nor Slade would have had much luck without aggravating the animal to the point of confrontation.
He himself would likely have just used his always granted power from the Host to speak with the animal to understand it, and to hopefully get it to understand them.

But that was enough thinking...and he drifted back to sleep.

Slade

In as much of a whispered tone as was possible from his warforged, he responded to Mohan "Let us just hope her willingness to sacrifice herself wont endanger this endeavour Mohan. I entrust you've picked your companions well."
