Round 2
Concluded

Jaiden backs away to join Mohan and Hazrad, but Fortus maintains his ground.

No sooner does he speak his prophetic words than the swarm erupts over the edge and heads straight for Fortus, swarming around him, over him, past his armor. They bite, and claw, and drip acid and all of it directly towards Fortus. (3 pierce dmg, 3 acid dmg)

Opposite the swarm and Fortus, the other creature climbs over the edge of the hole, and starts skittering towards Hazrad.

Round 3
Begin

Initiatives:
Hazrad - 21 - Blue
Mohan - 20 - Green
Jaiden - 11 - Purple
Fortus - 9 - Red

{OOC: Fortus, when you begin your turn, you will need to make a Fortitude save. If you succeed, you take no penalties. If you fail, you are nauseated for 1 round.

Map Notes: #1 is the eye-thing. The big black blob around Fortus is the swarm.}

Hazrad
HP: 8/8
AC: 15

As the swarm enveloped Fortus, he shuddered. He couldn't douse the man with oil!

However, the eye creature could be. He threw the flask of Oil at the creature and would then take a 5 foot step back behind his comrades. If the oil hit it's target, he would shout, "Use a torch!"

Area attack with flash of oil (vs spider...eye thing) (1d20+3=19) (Added Halfling racial bonus of +1 with thrown weapons. If it doesn't affect grenade-like weapons, the attack roll is 18)

Round 3
Continued

Hazrad threw the oil container and it shattered over the creature, dousing him with slick oil. Mohan follows up on the plan by tossing the torch at the creature as well. His aim is perfect, and the everburning torch strikes the creature right in the middle of its body. The torch then clatters to the floor, resting in the middle of the pooling oil at the creatures feet.

However, the oil does not ignite.

Jaiden
HP=14
AC=15

She expected the creature to explode into flames, but it didn't. She didn't know whether to be surprised at this or not. Fire plus oil equals more fire. In this case that didn't seem so. Obviously that torch had no effect, so what of some other ignited object? This whole situation had come about from the green lantern being put in place. Was it the green lantern then that would start the eye-of-weirdness on fire? Where was the lantern?

Taking her great axe into both hands, she asked the question of "where is the green lantern," before she moved five feet forward and swung her axe towards the spider-like opponent.

Attack on eye w/ great axe. Power attack - 2 handed (1d20+3=17, 1d12+6=13)

Jaiden steps up closely with the eye-spider-thingamabob, and slices her greataxe through the air. She lands a solid blow on the thing, nearly cutting it in two.

Fortus moves away from the swarm, and fires a hasty shot at the creature. As soon as he pulls the crossbow's trigger, his infusion on the weapon ignites the bolt in magical flames. Unfortunately, his aim is poor after his narrow escape, and he fails to get the bolt close enough to ignite the oil.

The eye-spider thing, appears to be quite mad, as instead of running in fear, it simply steps right up to the midst of everyone. However, it then begins a little dance, where it systematically slashes at each person within its reach with its razor-sharp spindle legs. the Mad Slasher manages to pierce through Hazrad's defenses easily (7 dmg), but both Mohan and Jaiden deflect the blows.

The Acid Beetle Swarm moves en masse and attempts to engulf as many of you as it can. They move and swarm over Fortus again, along with Mohan, and Hazrad. However, as luck would have it, they can't reach Jaiden, but can reach the Slasher, and they swarm over it as well. (4 dmg, 4 acid dmg to everyone but Jaiden) WIth this new attack from the swarm, the slasher appears to be on the verge of collapse.

{OOC: everyone in the swarm needs to make a Fort save or be nauseated for 1 round. You already know that a 12 or better succeeds.}

{OOC: Your save succeeded. Hazrad is down for the count, so go ahead and take your turn. no need to wait for him since he isn't taking any actions.}

She was unharmed and un-swarmed. She knew that the oil hadn't originally ignited as they would have liked. A few things had happened recently that they didn't like, however they may have a way out. She had watched as Fortus attempted to strike the swarm with his crossbow, and had missed. The important thing that she remembered was the magical fire surrounding the bolt.

Fortus was within distance that she could move toward him and try to grab the crossbow from him. Hopefully she had the ability to (1) get the weapon (2) not get hit with the swarm (3) fire a magical fire bolt and (4) hit the oil. There were so many implausible things about this situation that she wasn't sure if it would work, but it was worth trying. Running a southern route around everyone, she slid down next to Fortus' unconscious form to try to find the crossbow.

Both Fortus and Hazrad continue to bleed out, although a more serious concern is that they are still being eaten alive by beetles.

Mohan slashes at the swarm with his short sword, and he kills 3 bugs. Unfortunately, there are 300 more to take their place.

Jaiden moves down, abandoning the slasher. He makes an Opportunistic attack at her as she leaves, but she manages to evade it. Once she reaches Fortus, she sees the crossbow still in his hands, even as his life bleeds away and she takes the weapon, leaving the bugs to finish eating her ally.

The slasher decides that its not worth it to get eaten by bugs, and he skitters away from the swarm as fast as his little legs can take him.

The swarm, left without their other meal finish off Hazrad and Fortus, ending their life. They also continue to eat Mohan, and now they come after Jaiden as well. (5 dmg, 3 acid dmg to Mohan and Jaiden)

Round 3
Concluded

Jaiden, being the last one standing, rips the crossbow and a bolt from Fortus' dead hands, holding her ground even as the beetles swarm over her and bite at her flesh.

The acid that excudes from the insects begins to eat away at her very skin, but despite this, she slams the bolt home and works the lever action on the crossbow.

Blocking out the extreme pain, she levels the crossbow at the shattered oil container, and pulls the trigger, launching a bolt, with every intent of burning these vermin to nothing but a pile of ash.

Unfortunately, Jaiden is no artificer. The magic of the crossbow that lit the bolts on fire left it when it left Fortus' hands. She fires the bolt and it hits the oil, but there is no fire. The sight of the bolt striking the stone of the floor and skittering away is the last thing she sees before darkness overtakes her.

The beetle swarm eats well tonight.

Slade can feel the ground rumbling underneath him, and as the cylinder breaks away and falls down, he can see the cracks forming on the ground all around him. He turns to run but the cracks are spreading too quickly and the very stones under his feet give way. With no support, he starts to fall. He makes one last ditch jump at the ledge, pushing off of the slab of rock under him. His fingertips scrape the very edge of solid ground, but even that last heroic effort isn't enough, and he begins falling again.

The four adventurers left above of the falling rocks rush forward to the edge of the collapse and look down. The light from Mohan's everburning torch doesn't even reach the bottom of the tunnel. Even the enhanced vision of Mohan and Jaiden can't see the bottom. It seems impossible to imagine how anyone could survive that kind of fall.

It looks like there was acid poured over the walls. You can see pits and scars left behind making natural hand and foot-holds.

Jaiden

As the black hole looked up at her with no promise of survival, she outwardly replied, "well if he's still alive, he isn't happy." She pointed to the hand holds. "I could climb down. It looks like there's enough places to hold on." She could hold the torch in her jaws and use it to light her way down. "Mohan, give me your torch."If Mohan agreed, then she would take the torch and begin her descent down, after Slade.
