I think thats what Rhysis aims to do make us all feel ancient. I know I have seen some role play on Imvu and it was somewhat displeasing, although I have seen people actually trying to play, but falling victim to the inherent capitalism of the system there. Maybe one day they will make their own system/world.

Well then perhaps let a long dead ghost of realms past shed some light shall we? I doubt many of you would remember me. Most knew me as Nemesis or Nem.. some near and dear knew me from far longer as I was SoulBlade. The same that was rumored to be dead for many a years. As for your question regarding the UO and URO, You won't find the UO on IMVU any longer however there are aspects of the URO there and now the Dark Order has resurfaced if that name rings any bells. I would know. The Reaver has been there for many a years now watching silently. - Nem.

~Really should rename this thread since the name jumps out at me like a cat that fell into a boiling cauldron~ So Hi Nem!

As for your history. Most of us ancient ones that remember life throughout Yahoo, ICQ, AIM, MSN, and the varied search service rooms such as Excite, Lycos, and several others. VP places comes to mind, Halsoft, VooDoo to a lesser degree when they made their attempt in the early millenium. Would know the UO, URO, DO, as they originally were. New One World, or New World Order pending on the nexus you hung around in. They believe themselves to be shadow puppeteers that "weave the threads of all RPs." A shadow organization that has manipulated the fates of every major RP many of us have known. Obviously this claim is false but they have amassed quite the following. Metagamers and Character crossers primarily. Some raw talent hidden through their ranks.

I basically work here sweeping up square cans of meat and occasionally feeling my brain randomly die. I really need more coffee...

Whereas I have remained the ever hunting shadow of RP. Silently keeping my existence hidden from the RP world at large until I ended up on none other than IMVU where Atra found me just last night. Gathering info and watching the devolution of our beloved art and ever seeking the retribution I have so long sought.

Well I have tried to keep it moving but with out the work of Ceros, Sj, DSX, and Wes this place would also be but a memory only able to be found on places that archive the net. Although I understand the watching imvu thing, it is almost a pay to play version of free form which is just weird. ~takes the coffee ~ Raven you're a lovely person whom deserves roses and daisys for the greatness you have given me ~sips~

IMVU has potential and good people there though their ideals are a far cry from our own back in the day. There are passionate RP'ers there. I have done the best I could to prevent the demons of our past from haunting this new generation. I failed miserably at that but I did what I could without tipping the hat of my existence. I still seek the ones that undid Wolf By Night.

Well in my forays into Imvu I have seen imvu rp tainted through the application of items such as oh a developer didn't make this so you don't have the item because it has to be visible on your avatar. Although I have seen a lot of passionate roleplayers there I have also seen elitism through forced T1 para-rp. Although I never joined any of the familys or imvu groups that were dedicated towards families/covens/guilds ect to see what type of rp was taking place outside the client.

Unfortunately Mith you are not wrong. It is a problem I tried my hardest to correct but these newcomers have a long way to go. Much of IMVU is nothing more than what the NWO wished it to be. A haven for metagame RP's and drama. However, there are jewels. People who truly do believe that IMVU and it's capabilities as a 3d environment can be used as a tool to enhance RP, and I have seen it work in some cases. I have helped build RPs where it worked well. The jewels are few and far between but they do exist. However their extreme reliance on moving away from the creative freedoms we once cherished and protected as if they were our own children for this hyper structured T-1 bs is for most of us old worlders very off putting. I've managed to eek out an existence and at least sate the itch for RP with it however it has never been the same since I vanished from Yahoo all those many many years ago. There are several toxic elements in IMVU some could argue that the toxicity starts with the very principal of the client itself, but finding myself here. I may just have to see if there's any creative flow left in these old bones and throw in with the big dogs of the old world. See if I can strike my groove again and have some fun. After all.. what's life without a bit of chaos from an original Knight of Madness eh? :p

I have never "actively" roleplayed on IMVU outside of the Tournaments of 2012 run by Star, Grim and Carrendar, with Malice/EJ and Vlad/Volk at my side. Honestly, I find the overall atmosphere stifling to creativity; and I mean this in the sense that little groups seem more involved in slur campaigning and the rumour mill to the verge of non-activity in the IC sense and all about OOC drivel and immaturity. Roleplay happens, I am sure, but for the most part, I shouldn't have to join an Empire/or family before actually seeing the roleplay... and if it is something that I want to participate that isn't sexually/Gor/BDSM focused. I prefer to roleplay freely PvP/or plot based- I don't like to be treated as some roleplay stooges puppet. Loyalty like that, especially in roleplay with me, is earned never just given. Nor do I bow IC'ly to someone that has not earned that fealty. The IMVU empires are pure idiocy, merely for self gratification and self tribute, not for the overall support to their members.

There's tons of play-by-post forum roleplaying still active on the web. You can see hundreds of RPs are advertising on sites like RPG-Directory.com. It looks like JCink became the "main" hosting provider of roleplayers in the way that ezBoard / Proboards used to be.
