Mission Twelve: Naze Sorairo

Mark nodded to the woman Arete before taking a running leap to rocket after Walter, his flying smooth and well controlled.

"Alright let's go, I'll follow your lead. Hopefully it won't be something big, probably just a small, or medium sized creature. Either case, we got this, and I have the gear to support you guys. I got your backs.", Mark said in a direct line to Arete and Walter.

"Hey Will, we're in flight for rendezvous, ETA two mikes.", He said now to William and Sacre.

[We'll wait til after the mission, but it means to ask for a date. You know a outing where the two of you spend time together. It builds a relationship.]

[Oh... I understand now, father,] Chlorate replied, this time without making a noise. When Hoshi asked her about the weaponry, she scanned the systems. "The optimal weapons to use will be Heavy Quad Anti-Mecha Cannons and Turbo Aether Turrets in this situation. Other weaponry on the starship poses a risk of hitting Strong in the process of firing. Two Turbo Aether Turrets and six Heavy Quad Anti-Mecha Cannons are currently capable of firing at Strong's position. Seven Heavy Quad Anti-Mecha Cannons and Two Turbo Aether Turrets are capable of firing on the surrounding area," the robot reported to Hoshi.

"Aye. Let's check out what this thing is. I can also help capture it if we need to, probably. Unless it's got scalar shielding." Arete just realized, she's never actually, well, used her power for anything serious before. Sure it helped her fly around, her wings on their own not powerful enough to do it, but she hadn't been able to find any real applications for the Army. Not yet, anyways. Maybe this time it can help?

She shrugged, "Let's try to keep low, by the way. If we're closer to the ground then any sort of camera or sensor will have a harder time identifying us."

Alastair looked at Eden as she gave him a pat on the back. He was flattered she was looking to him to help the team. Granted this team didn't need any help as they are all able to do perfect during a mission.

"Now you're speaking more my language." Alastair commented in reference to her full spread command.

He moved a good 20 feet or so away from Eden as his drones pulled away from his back. They hovered low to the ground as he moved forward keeping a keen out for the bad guys.

Gravity bit her lip at Chlorate's words. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who the android was considering asking out, and Gravity desperately wanted to let her know that the object of her affections was currently in a relationship. She didn't want the poor baby's heart broken in what would be her first taste of romance. But that conversation would have to wait until later.

"We're hidden and pressed against the structure, but we're lined up for a quick getaway if need be. If things go south, we can be at Strong's position for extraction in under thirty seconds. Main gun was calibrated this morning, and all systems are green. There's enough room down here to go fast and hit hard if we end up in a scrap with another ship, ma'am." the azure neko reported to Hoshi, draping her arm over the back of her chair as she twisted to face the captain.

Sacre signaled to William to break and hold for a moment while the three Santô Hei caught up with them. As they floated, Sacre considered for a moment. She was the highest ranking of the impromptu squad. She wished that Madoka, Muyomi, or Aoi were here. However, they weren't and she was. She had two minutes to plan her approach. She pulled up the loadouts that everyone had and considered them for a moment. She trusted William, and knew he could handle himself whatever happened. She handed him the medical scanner. "William, scout ahead while I wait for them. Observe and report, don't get yourself shot. If your clumsy butterfingers drops my scanner, I'll break your spine."

She then considered the remaining three for a moment. She didn't know Arete, had known only the counterpart of Walter, and Mark she had talked with a few times. He was the surrogate father to Chlorate, a decidedly odd robot. She decided on a pentagonal formation once they caught up with William again. That would put them far enough apart that it would be difficult for a single attack to kill all of them and allow them to change facing just by changing direction. Sacre didn't trust the apparently idyllic world that they had found in the sphere and wanted them ready at any moment.

William would take the point, with herself in the right front slot. With his heavy weapons loadout, she put Walter in the back right behind her. She decided that Mark would probably do the most good from the back left slot, so that it was less likely that both herself and probably the better leader of the squad would both be taken out. That left the front left slot for Arete.

With that decided, she transmitted the formation and her orders. "We will assume the formation that I'm sending you. We are advancing to contact with the unknown life form. If it is hostile, we will destroy it with extreme prejudice. However, We will give it a chance to prove itself first. If it is not hostile, then I will approach it and you will form compass points around us incase this is an ambush. We want to be ready if anything happens. Keep comms open and If you have something to say, say it, but keep your eyes pealed for danger. I don't want any of you blind mole-rats getting us killed because you didn't see the danger coming."

Closing on lifeform contact

William slowed and hovered next to Sacre when she signaled him to stop. When she handed him her scanner, he snickered. "Good luck with that, Sacre. You'd have to catch me first."He teased, taking off quickly so she couldn't shoot him for the comment. He took a moment to see how it worked, then mentally connected to the device as he flew.

He soared up the side of the mountain, watching the scanner intently as he neared the lifeform. After receiving his orders from Sacre, he replied. "Understood." He said. He stopped short of the the location of the lifeform and landed. It would probably be best to near it on foot. He slowly started walking towards the signal, keeping an eye on his sensors for any signs of an ambush.

Miles continued to scan around him, his chemical scanner not showing any unusual readings. The tall minkan sighed to himself kicking up plumes of sand in frustration, they'd come into this strange place and had been told to prep for a fight and instead got a strange man-made biome which was rather impressive to Miles. Looking up from his fruitless efforts he saw a group heady towards the mountains before hearing the order to spread out, "Alright Shasse you heard her it's time to spread out a little more." Miles spoke in his private comms with his partner as he took off from the ground and hovered.

Looking around he could see what was either an ocean or a very large lake with Wyatt and Muyomi who appeared to be going swimming? "Funny time to be going swimming don't you think?" He chuckled as he opened a comm link to the other minkan as he looked around seeing nothing much else other than sand and the group headed towards the mountains, "So how're things where you are, anything of interest?"

Shasse had taken off and begun her own investigation the moment science became involved, leave the complicated stuff to the techs and nerds was her reasoning especially since she wouldn't know how to interpret any info she found anyway. "Miiileees, what are we even doing here, I thought we were going to be shooting bad guys and blowing shit up?" The slightly childish if not impatient neko replied as he told her to hurry along.

As she rose Shasse noticed Muyomi in the water near Wyatt too and a slight chill ran down her spine thinking of the recent events, shaking the memories away to stay focused, well as focused on boring science nonsense as she could the blue neko hurried to follow Miles as they moved over to another area. An odd feeling rolled through her briefly before dispersing as suddenly as it came, putting it down to her body doing something interesting in a boring situation she shrugged and continued to follow Miles. "So can we go home yet, or kill something, or do something that isn't this boring?"

When Miles touched down and pulled out his scanner once again Shasse followed him on auto-pilot not really paying attention to the fact that he had stopped and crashed into the Minkan with a reasonable amount of force behind her movement. Falling forwards the minkans head smashed into the sand and almost immediately vanished into a small dune as his body went limp and he lay on the floor.

"Shasse..."
"Uhhh, sorry?"
"Try to pay attention next time, now get out your scanner and actually do something while I. Investigate the inside of this small dune, it's crucial you don't disturb me while I work so try to keep quiet while you're at it."
"OH Absolutely, I'll be as silent as the wind, as quiet as a corpse and as helpful as a, errr, something that's really helpful..."

The neko switched her focus to her own scanner which had been on the whole time, merely without anyone to look at it. The readout of her lifeform scanner indicated an unknown signature nearby not marked as part of the crew or known allies, turning to look at Miles who was enjoying the relative peace of being stuck in the sand she clenched her fist. She'd promised to be quiet and so she would, this lifeform would be dealt with the Shasse way and she'd show him she was not useless in these boring sciency missions.

Miles let out a sigh of relief knowing that she bought his lame excuse to take a minute to lie down and do nothing, "Besides what you're doing is good Miles, you got her to start doing work and be quiet at the same time, I'd call that a win." He spoke to himself as he continued to lie on the sand enjoying the peace. He could tell Shasse was wandering around nearby but obviously hadn't found anything interesting or she would tell him straight away, he half expected her to break the vow of silence the second it started and was surprised when she managed to stay silent for a few minutes.

Wyatt closed his fist and let it drop to the ground, "There is sand and sea, but nothing much else - OH" he cut himself off mid-response as he looked at his scanner, either it was because his mindy hadn't been fired up in a while or the aether had messed with it in some way but the additional life form had only just now shown up on his hud.

"What do you guys thi.." he stopped himself again mid sentence as he spun around to see yet another armoured body partially buried in the sand.

Seriously, what is up with these people, is this a common thing? The minkan marksman thought to himself as he hovered over and landed next to Miles. "You need a hand there?"

Sacre Squad

Walter Hyde was relieved that the pressure of leading a team will be falling onto someone with more experience. As much as Mark had faith in everyone in the small Santo-hei group, Walter didn't feel fit to lead right now. Sacre sounded pretty smart and methodical, as if she knew precisely what to do at any given moment. Granted he didn't know if that hunch was true or not, she only sounded like that.

Walter looked over the squad formation, and became comfortable with it alongside Sacre's orders. He tapped into the shared channel as he got closer. "Understood, Sacre-hei. We'll take up positions and keep an eye out alongside you."

The Minkan, whom wasn't aware that Sacre basically figured out the secret he had been keeping from the others so far, had positioned himself as ordered once he arrived.

"The others will be arriving shortly," Walter said as his NSBs disengaged. Walter had faith in those two, although why he does have faith is for reasons that he would struggle to describe.

Care's quick remark on his incorrect scanner usage only added to his earlier statement, making him flip it over correctly with a slightly embarrassed grin. "Ah......right, my bad" Scanner in one hand, LASR in the other, Abart realy would be better off by letting Care plot out their route from here. Still, a suggestion wouldn't hurt.

"A branching path eh..... sounds alright. With most of them going to the mountains and those two over there taking a not-so-skinny dip, maybe follow the shoreline somewhat till we find some landmarks?" He said, using his Mindy's CFS to start hovering in that direction.

The following remark was somewhat unexpected. Now that she mentioned it, she did seem a lot more 'to the point' than before, noticably showing next to no emotion at all. Not that she was very expressive to begin with, but usually there was some personality in there. However if that was indeed the case, why would she apologize for it? Just good manners? Simple protocol stuff? Or perhaps she couldn't fully inore her emotions outright, or simply didn't want to.....not fully at least.

Whatever the reason was, Abart could tell there was a lot more to this gal than meets the eye. If there was any doubt involved, least he could do was try and easy some of that. "Don't feel bad. I may be partially cold blooded, but i'm not that squeamish." He said jokingly, grinning in the process. "Besides, you'll have to try a lot harder than that if you wanna match up to your teal-panaled coworker. She's a whole other biscuit!" Grinning at his own joke that probably no-one but the snakes would understand, he turned back to Care, looking right back at her. "Still, it's not like you gotta do it all on your own. S'why we're a team, right?"

Heck. He was totally starting to sound like some generic anime protagonist now.....

YSS Kaiyo - Bridge Shenanigans

"Urk-" For a second, the Snakelady's spine, all 18 feet of it, twitched for a second, feeeling that shock of surprise shot down it like some cold icecube on steroids. She'd always been the more adventurous, flirtatious type, and it was very true that she and Mark had been frollicking around in the background. However a proclamation as straightforward and sincere as this could make even Nerai skip a heartbeat, especially with Chlorate's blunt, almost naïve way of saying it across the entirety of the bridge.

The long, olive green lock of hair across her face almost seemed to scrunch up slightly, before hanging limply in front of her lightly blushing face. It brushed her console's keyboard as she lowered her head slightly, clenching her fists. Wholly unintentional, she muttered under breath, but that delightful frustration made it loud enough to be heard by anyone with a keen ear. "Geez....that Baka is always so damn serious....."

Clearing her throat, she tied to catch her composure, however her still reddened and strained voice remained. "C-Chlo-chan.....please remind me later to have a quick word with Oaklen-hei about effing time and place for things, kay~?."

Heck. Knowing these people on the bridge, especially that damn Chusa who was totally smirking just now, this wasn't the last she'd hear of this.....

Miles heard the voice of Wyatt calling to him as though very far away, perhaps it was all just a dream and he was still alone enjoying peace, "Or maybe you still have your head in the sand idiot..." he said to himself as he raised one arm and gave a thumbsup while not moving the rest of his body.

Nearby Shasse was staring intently at the sand bent over in L shape on its side as she picked up some individual grains to stare at them one by one. Spying Wyatt near Miles she quickly bounded over and tapped him, "Hey you know he's doing important work down there, you shouldn't disturb him while he's working he can sometimes yell." Although her face was masked by the helmet her tone was as serious as it had ever been as she spoke up at the minkan with her hands on her hips.

Wyatt pivoted his head to look down at yet another neko, before speaking back to her in response with his deep voice "Well the way I see it he either wants me to pull his head out of the sand, or he is going to be annoyed when I do this". In a quick motion, Wyatt buried his hand deep into the sand until he felt something he could grab onto, presumably what he was feeling was a ridge at the base of Miles' neck, so he closed his hand on the surface and pulled back, freeing the other Minkan from the dune he was buried in.

"Now, are we going to continue building sand castles on the beach or is somebody going to follow me to the life signature that the others have already left for?" he spoke over comms to the two Nekos and the other Minkan.

The shoreline was a good idea, given everything else. Other directions seemed well handled by able-minded crew-members, and she felt no reason to follow the same paths as them given the need to split up and cover different directions.Setting her own suit to hover, she quickly began to speed along the shoreline, her scanner searching for lifeforms above all else, only detecting one unidentified in any uncertain range. One. Care wasn't sure why, but the fact that their intel had gone from 'heavy resistance to be anticipated' to a simple one lifeform was unsettling to say the least. Did the bulk of their enemy use artificial life to fight their battles? It would explain the poor response of the scanner, but that went no closer to explaining the odd, singular number that the scanner refused to drop.

Abart was kind, already to a fault, and as he joked she was glad that the Mindy covered a good portion of visibility of her face, though she did noticeably look away. A team. He was right, they were a team, but she was a Medic, the support. This wasn't the place to go confessing issues, the support should be able to be relied upon without fear of breaking, and she had already failed that once. "I do not need assistance, but I appreciate the... Support." That wasn't helpful. It wasn't solidifying. Why couldn't she put her voice on a form of auto-pilot as well?

She shook her head, concentration going back on her scanner, and to the beach zooming past below them. Coastlines were common places for organics to build things, as well as shorelines in general. Even salt water sources were an attraction to them, albeit for different reasons that freshwater. "Keep your eyes open, the circumstances as they stand are already anomalous to our prior intelligence, we need to figure out what is really here before we react accordingly." Don't worry about what I said, Abart. It's not worth it.

Just focus.

"Understood," said the clanky robot, "When would you like me to remind you?" She looked at Nerai and awaited a response as if she were waiting for Nerai to give her a specific time.

This Sphere is like a candy, the inside is better than the wrapper!

"Hai." What is a mole-rat? Are they like those Mohmils I've heard about? I'll have to ask later I guess? The undersized soldier set herself on the relative left side of the formation. She shivered a bit, her wings naturally shrinking and pressing themselves against her back to minimize her profile. "It's unsettling..." She said, her voice a whisper through the communications of the crew, "This massive jungle, but not a single sound aside from ourselves. It is not right."

Alastair noticed not too far from himself was Shasse who was doing her best to help Miles out. He had only heard stories about her from Miko as Miles tends to keep to himself about such topics.

Things seemed to be calm at the moment so decided to walk over to her and have a quick chat to get an update on her and Miles findings. It was a quick flight over to the two playing in the sand. What he expected to find was Miles hard at work collecting data and Shasse screwing off. Was to his surprise that this was not the case.

"Miles, for a moment there I thought Miko had showed up. Seems he rubbed off on you brother." He said in a joking fashion as he came up on the group. "So find anything Shasse?" He asked in a curious voice as he looked to Wyatt. "Don't be in a rush, its good to give some space in case something bad is up ahead. Don't need us all getting trapped." He said with a smile.

Miles was sat on the ground still wondering why he was suddenly wrenched from the sand by his neck as opposed to his outstretched hand, and Shasse talking about him doing something useful almost tipped him over the edge of a small laughing fit as he looked around and noticed Alastair had shown up as well. "Well I'm not sure how you think how either of you could rub off on me, one of us has to uphold the true family name instead of chasing women all day long."

Getting to his feet he took the time to fully process what Wyatt was saying about a life form, the minkan stiffened and slowly turned to Shasse, "Shasse my dear, dear friend. You had a life form scanner, so why didn't you tell me about this?" Miles cursed himself for trusting the bouncy neko who often proved to be more like his brothers than he cared to admit, it wasn't that he didn't want to trust her, but she was definitely more attuned to combat than this sort of exploration.

"Well I didn't want to disturb, you when, you were... working." The little neko trailed off as she spoke as she noticed the feeling of heat was returning to her eyes as her throat itched, the words of the vampire cut through her mind like a scalpel and she started shaking her head and backing away from the others.

"Blood... Blood... Blood..."

The voice threatened to take over her mind as the little neko let out a yelp of pain and fell to her knees clutching at her head trying to shake some invisible demons from it, she whimpered softly and clawed at her helmet trying to remove it as the itch in her throat demanded to be sated by the feel of the blood of another.

"I guess I'm just too keen to get out and do something, I've been crammed into the ship for too long" Wyatt spoke to Alastair and was about to extend a hand for him to shake when he noticed the odd behaviour of Miles' companion, she suddenly started acting like a flash bang had gone off in her helmet, was probably the best way he could describe it.

Wyatt didn't like it, not one bit, and his finger subconsciously went from having great trigger discipline to being ready to fire if he needed to as he wandered over to her. "Hey, you okay in there?" he asked her. When he didn't get much of a response, his finger tightened on the trigger, depressing it slightly into the gun.

"Hey, hey Miles" he called out with some urgency, "Something is wrong with your cat friend, is this a thing that happens or?" he asked, befuddled by what was going on as he leant down to help her out of the helmet.

Alastair quickly got the status report from Shasse's mindy. The readings were all over the place and did not make any sense. One moment she was completely fine and the next her brain waves spiked and high levels of activity were being reported.

"Eden, we have a situation over here. Need some support ASAP." He requested over comms. A second later he kneeled down next to her and again checked her vitals which reported the same information. Damn he thought to himself as he considered what to do next. They are on hostile grounds but this seemed to be an emergency. He linked with Shasse's mindy and initiated an emergency override to release her helm.

Within an instant her helm unsealed and retracted away from her face. "Hey Shasse, you doing alright." He said in a concerned voice.
