To clarify, there is or is not a 'character vault' or something to that effect?

Apparently I'm from dotCom and am totally alienated here.

Yup, as da Nayla clarified, the Lobby is for introductions. Also to clarify, just because you're from .com, it does not mean that you are alienated. It is the weekend right now, and a lot of us tend to be away from the boards during these times due to RL. We welcome all newcomers, and I say welcome to .org and hope that you enjoy your stay with us. {Grins and fades.}

Character sheets aren't mandatory here, but for characters that you use on a regular basis, they are recommended, just to alleviate any confusion in the future. We don't by any means, expect you to ONLY use characters you've posted a profile for. If you want to just make up a character for an RP, then by all means go for it.

Yeah, I wouldn't spend the time typing up backstory etc. if I didnt plan on using it. This character is the most relatable to me, so I tend to bring him in when I can. He'll definitely be making random appearances.

lol, random appearances are the norm here. (alright at least with me, anyway. heh.) so you'll fit right in.

1. Hi Dizzi.

2. Haven't been in law enforcement since I left Louisiana in 2011. I'm a private security contractor now. No, not as cool as it sounds. Oregon sucks at hiring cops.

3. There's some stuff kinda going on here. I dunno. Summer is busy for me with tournaments and war and stuff.

Greek armor on the right. Made everything but the helmet.

Ah, I see. Still doin badass things though. I mean, knighting it up in 2013, in your own armor?

I've got some swords (who doesnt) but never invested in armor. What're the materials used? There's a LARP community active here in my new town, the park they use is a stones throw from my house.. But I'm not allowed to play anymore ;---; apparently my skill level combined with my physical conditioning and two weapons is too much for some of the... What's the word I'm lookin for? Out of shape + don't really know swordplay + only in it for the RP. Whatever your call those guys. It became so one sided sometimes through their rules (if you tag a limb they lose it) that they had me ref only in one on one, then once we did force on force, I was hurting too many people.

That picture however looks like the stuff right up my alley. Full contact?

When I was in North Dakota I watched a couple meetings with the SCA group there. Almost joined, actually. It's pretty amusing because, since it was right by an air force base, a lot of the newer guys' armor was just their issued protective gear with some kind of cloth over it.

Watched one guy on his "first" (realistically it was like his third time rejoining) day. They demonstrated what was a good hit and what was a bad hit. I enjoyed the explaination of "After this, you will not take a hit without returning one." lol

Hmmm...Long Sword and Shield against Pole Arm...thats going to end the same way more times than not.

One thing I strongly dislike about George R.R. Martin is a comment he made in his series "Game of Thrones" is that a strong swordsman would beat a skilled staff wielder handily.

Yeah I haven't read it, and I doubt I will, but that statement right there makes the decision all that more resolute. I consider myself fairly skilled with both sword and staff, and I've sparred people reasonably equal in my skill multiple times. In my opinion, the staff is the superior weapon. Now I have seen swordsmen beat staff wielders, but their skills weren't equal.

Like I said...my opinion.

I wouldn't read Game of Thrones, but I'm on the series right now, favoritre tv show for sure.

And I agree, a staff wielder has the upper hand when it's the same skill levels. The dynamics of a polearm allow even the most novice wielder to have an advantage.

Now, if it's two swords, there's an equalizer -- if you know how to use them of course, and I still wouldnt put money on being able to beat a skilled polearm wielder, seeing as a staff/polearm was my first weapon to train with. I've had good fortune with my lifetime sparring partner when I used two swords [when my 'staff' broke, I'd snap it and make two 'swords'.], but I also had been training with him since the age of 12. My recent sparring partner is in jail for a long time, so im probably rusty.

Haha, actually showed my wife some swordplay the other day at the park. [no pun intended.] She had never really seen me 'in action', just going through drills in the living room. Glad to hear the words 'skilled' and 'impressed' from her; she's done qi gong, wushu and tai chi since the age of 4. :)

Actually sword and shield vs pole is a game of inches.

The sword and shield wielder is at an advantage if he knows how to engage a fighter with a polearm.

The way you engage someone with a polearm if you've got a sword and shield is to not fight at the polearm's range. Rush him and fight in close. The polearm doesn't have the defense that a shield provides. If the Swordsman stays on the polearm and doesn't allow him put space between the two of them, the swordsman will most likely win.

However, if the pole wielder is fast and accurate enough they can choke up on their weapon and use a short thrust or a buttspike, hopefully before the swordsman can get a close quarters thrust.

This has been my personal experiences though. It's all subjective. It's knowing your range, your weapons and your capabilities.
