Anti-Spam

As part of our efforts to fight spam, the spam cleaner is now connected via an API key to StopForumSpam, a blacklisting service that helps forum admins check IPs and emails for spammers. When a new user registers here, the registration info is checked against their database. This helps cut down the amount of spammers who are able to registered in the first place.

Important: Admins and moderators here have access to a powerful spam cleaner tool. It can, in one click, delete all a spammer's content and ban them. If you have access to this tool, do not use it on anyone but actual spammers, as it is now connected to the blacklist service, and misuse of this tool is against their TOS.

Also I've added a restriction where new members are unable to edit certain profile fields and post links until they make a few posts.

Spammers that are making it through are usually posting shady sites on their profile's website field, since that's one of the only things they can do, so that's a good place to look. If you see a spammer of this type, use the spam cleaner on them (if you're an admin or mod) or contact me or any online admin and give them a link to the spam user's profile and we'll take care of it ASAP, or use the forum's built-in reporting tool.

Note: Certain forums may have automated posts generated by the actual board, which are pulled from RSS feeds. For example there's a hidden admin forum where Google alerts are posted so that we can see all the new instances of "Ayenee" being used on the web. Sometimes these feeds could contact spammy content. If it's one of our robots, just delete the spam and don't use the tool.

Update: I've set up an API with Google to use a stronger CAPTCHA for registration. Hopefully this will help, as we were still getting 1-3 spammers getting through each day. I'd like to avoid manual approvals of every new member if possible, but it's still an option.
