Perma-Newbie
So, I'm sure many of you came to the site yesterday and were wondering why nothing was working.

I still don't have all the details myself, but from the nearest I can figure, our host decided it would be a good idea to upgrade our database software. However, they did it in such a fashion as to cause us significant pain and suffering.

Fortunately, it appears that no data was lost. We are back up and running.

You can expect some slowness in the next day or so while the bugs are ironed out, but by the end of the weekend, we should be back to normal operating speed.

The rest of this is just technical jargon, which I'm posting for my own references.

Database error in vBulletin 3.6.7:

Invalid SQL:

SELECT COUNT(*) AS count
FROM vb_attachment AS attachment
INNER JOIN vb_post AS post USING (postid)
WHERE attachment.visible = 0;

MySQL Error : Table './moraldelima_1/vb_post' is marked as crashed and should be repaired

Error Number : 145

The important thing seems to be the vb_post table. It got corrupted somehow. REPAIR TABLE Command didn't work to restore it.

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/repair.html seems to have the solution.

Posting ahead of time because you think it'll happen again next month?

(9 for the month is September, 8 is August)

I had made 2 attempts to reply on the'T and the Hurricane' thread but each time my post didn't hold. Incase this disapears as well I sent a mail to Mith. Perhaps this is a result of upgrade, each post was made on quick reply.

I quick posted in the thread, and then I checked Jayliss's settings and everything seemed right on. SJ please look into this.

Near as I can tell everything is working.

Jayliss, I left you a message on yahoo msgr, but i don't know if you use that account anymore. contact me today before 6PM eastern, if you still have trouble posting. Otherwise, I won't be available again until late sunday.

When I made my response in the Hurricane thread, I quick replied and had no difficulty. All my posts are via quick reply. Hopefully Jayliss is only seeing a small bug instead of an issue.

Ok gang!

Operation host shuffle has completed successfully. You should be able to rest easy at night, knowing that this forum will be stable and reliable, once again. We've switched to a new host who doesn't have the constant database problems that our other host did.

Again, we are very sorry for the constant interruptions for the past week. Thanks for sticking with us.

Now, there are a couple of things left over in the Lost Post thread that I didn't know what to do with. If you own one of those posts, please repost it where it came from.

Thanks.

I think you may have already noticed, but I noticed a couple glitches already.

The pages within threads are not working right. Some threads are listing more pages then what is being shown. This very thread has two pages listed but it's only opening to one.

{kills their old host}

{edit}After making my recent post, it's now showing the second page. Previously it was listing it with two pages but only one page was present at the time.

I believe that both of these have to do with the lost posts that I've found. Whats likely happened is during all of the data corruption at our last host, some threads still think they've got more posts than are actually attached to them. These problems will clear up on their own as those threads are posted to again and the threads 'recalibrate' to the proper number of posts.

You've already seen that happen with this thread, as its working fine, now that its back to having 2 pages again.

This should only happen in the case of threads that are missing a post. In that case, check the lost post thread, see if you can find one that matches, and if so, move that post to the proper thread, or ask an admin to. It will show up as being posted by me, even though it wasn't, but this is the best I can do, considering how much damage was done by our last host.

That thread still has unaccounted for posts, no big deal, but thought you should know that some things are not reappearing.
