Basically N. Korea's all pissed off because of UN sanctions because of the nuclear tests they did in April and May. There have been some reports that say N. Korea's prepared for another test and, since they have sworn to increase the size of their nuclear arsenal and threatened us, we're putting an anti-missile defense around Hawaii.
A few years ago they tried a test fire in our direction on July 4 but the system failed just before launch. At the time their farthest reaching missile could travel about 4k miles, which would fall about 500 miles short of Hawaii if they did, in fact, aim it at us.
So basically, the secretary of defense is talking with the S. Korean government to gain their opinions on the matter and loading up a bunch of defenses for our side which are capable of shooting a missle out of the air. Still get some crap that way, but better in the ocean than in a volcano.

Same thing as Rhysis said, except for one big difference, we are on the edge about this one cause we are the possible target. Our news people have been trying to call DC to get information on this, and wanting to know what is going to be done, especially to help protect us against the Nuke. Yeah we have Pearl Harbor on standy and Kaneohe Marine Corps Base on high alert, but we also want to know what our government is planning to do as well. So yeah, we here on the islands are very worried about this, but we are also living our lives as much as we could right now.

Well we have our X-Band radar out at sea doing some sea trial tests after it's been getting some upgrades, and they are using that to help keep an eye on N.Korea. Our government has some of our missiles ready as well, and the Secretary of Defense was shipping more missiles and counter missiles over when Obama told him to stop. Obama does not want to irritate the crazy man any more then the crazy man already is. The theory is if the crazy man sees more missiles out here in Hawai'i, he'll get even more trigger happy and fire his missiles just for the hell of it, even if his missiles can't reach us yet.
I don't have any more information for I've been working a hellacious week at work and finishing around almost midnight due to increased mall traffic, so I've not been able to catch up on the news. All's good here so far, but still on our toes.
