Mecha Control

There are two basic ways of controlling mecha. 1. wear it like a suit. 2. Use complex controls. The first has the problem of wearing out the pilot, while the second imposes a very steep learning curve. Which method you think is better?

Being a massive Gundam fan I go for 2. I like the idea of them being piloted, with a bit of newtype mental control stuff throw in to make things more interesting.

Well I've seen stuff up to the end of Char's Counterattack and I've yet to see anyone get their brain fried.

Well I think there are a few other options than just those two. I reccomend Macross Plus for instance where I believe its the YF-21 thats able to be controled by thought. Although like in G-Gundam there is the full suit ability where the pilots body movements are mimicked by the suit, or you have the mass quanity of controls such as Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Armored Core,Eureka 7 and numerous others. I Would prefer a system similar to that seen in Neon Genisis Evangelion, where yes there are controls that are activated by touch but also there is a strong mental link with the unit itself.

As for the frying of ones Brain I belive Zeth may be talking about Traise Kousch Renada in Gundam Wing who'se use of the Zero system made him a wee bit loopy for a bit.

There weren't Newtypes in the travesty that was Gundam Wing. The Zero System was more like the EXAM system in the Blue Destiny SEGA game. I'm talking about evolved spacenoids in the Universal Century timeline (the "real" Gundam timeline that started with the original series and that most of the series have occurred within).

In the Real world you can't plug your brain intyo a machine without side affects. For example if you plug your head into a mech and it was shot, wouldn't your body feel pain?

ya know, I have a mech-warrior game for my snes, and I gotta tell you, it's kinda tricky cause you have to add all kinds of different weapons and defenses and stuff?

And you earn credits to do this with by hunting evil mechs.

I gotta say, for the only game I've seen from mech-world.
I have to hand it to you mech fans. It is one great whopping big ole world of fun!

Oh before I forget, in my game, the mech was piloted with what looked like a radar screen and a glass front and a couple joystick looking contraptions in the pilot's frontal view.

Once you had sufficient knowledge to construct such an interface, you would presumably be able to control what information was transferred through it. Also machines don't feel pain, so there'd be no "pain signals" travelling back to the pilot.

Yes but what about the Pilot? Wouldn't he/she feel very vunerable outside of the mecha and become parinoid? In some rps if you mentally intergrate into the mecha you feel empty when not intergrated and want to be in the cockpit at all times.
