"Sir, yes sir!" Rika gave Satoko a salute and grabbed as much as she could carry and headed off after her.

Keiichi finally arrived home all sweat and happily said, "Finally!"

As soon as he was to open the door, his father came out.

"Keiichi!! Don't tell your mother about this!!" The father dragged him, "Come to Daddy's Atelier~"

"Nooo!!!" Keiichi can only said in vain.

A man in a tree. And a cart that lost a wheel. Hanyuu contemplted this. Not for the first time, she considered for a second to suggest Rika comitted suicide adn started all over with a new world. As she had done before, she wrote this option off. It coudl easily become a bad habit.

"I see you there Hanyuu," Rika said as she walked. "I don't care what happens at this point. I'm not giving up just yet. Not yet."

Keiichi finally went to sleep and thought, "Finally, this day is over. I Want to get some rest."

He lay down on his bed and drifted off to sleep...

"Well that's good!" said Hanyuu. "I am glad too see you at such high spirits. Well. Relatively such. I bet it will sort out fine... in the end... anyway."

Hanyuu eyed Rika. She thought about the Miko. And about the others, balancing at the brink of disaster. And fighting, failing, falling, over and over again. It felt wierd. Not that she was unused to care about humans, on the contrary. She was a shrine deity, and her purpouse was to care about the area around her shrine, including the human population. However, when you are immortal, human generations pass pretty quickly. And you tend to care about them the way a gardener care about flowers. You love them, tend them. But you know their lives are brief, and you don't mourn them when they die. Spending this much time with the same set fo humans... ...no new born and no deaths... no LASTING deaths... ...was a bit confusing.

Satoko was tired by the time she reached the house. Still, there was more stuff to carry. She slowly walked inside and got Rika and herself something to drink before stepping out to wait for Rika to arrive.

Being somewhat tired she sat on the step and contemplated life.

Eventually Rika was able to carry the wood back to the house. She fell to her knees panting after dropping the wood off to the side.

"I'm really tired..."

Satoko stepped over to her and handed her the juice that she had been saving for her.

"I think if we try we can do it in one more trip"

Satoko looked at Rika with a bit of worry. Rika was normally the outgoing one, willing to try to do anything. Satoko decided to try to cheer her up.

"Look at it this way, it is good prectise for the dance that you have to do"

"You're right," Rika said as she finally caught her breath. "Let's get this done."

With a smile over at Satoko, Rika headed off back to the wagon.

Satoko fallowed. When she arrived at the wagon she looked at it carefully and started to put the rest of the wood back into the wagon. She carefully placed it on the opposite corner from the broken wheel.

Once she was done she experimentally lifted the corner where the wheel had broken off. It wasn't hard to lift with no weight on it. She looked over at Rika and grinned.
"If you pull this second trip should be easier than the first, just don't go to fast, OK?"

"Mii. Sir, yes Sir!" Rika said with a salute as she did as she was told. Grabbing the wagon she ehaded for home.

When they arrived home Satoko collapsed onto the front steps and began to rub her sore arm. She looked up at Rika.

"Your on Kitchen duty tonight private!"

Rika cast her gaze at the ground.

"Yes, Sargent," she said mournfully as she walked past Satoko and started to run some water to do the dishes.

I am so tired. Straight to bed after this. Sigh. I would have liked to have a drink tonight, but oh well...

After a few minutes Satoko stepped quietly into the kitchen and grabbed a towel and without a word started to dry. Once or twice she stumbled as fatigue made movement a chore.

"You don't have to do that Satoko," Rika said looking over at her. "You go and relax. Leave the grunt work to me. Superior officers should take it easy."

Satoko grabbed another plate and began to dry it.

"And what grunt has respect for a commander that doesn't get their hands dirty once and a while?"

She would have chuckled, but was too tired. Besides, they were almost done.

Soon, the two of them were done the dishes.

"I'll set up the futons while you go and get washed. Don't forget to wash your face," Rika said cheerfully.
