Well, I figured I'd start a new random-chat thread since mine was locked for some reason. Just curious as to what's going on around here? What's new? Exciting? Interesting? Write-worthy?

I think the biggest issue with forum RP is the lack of community. There are so many sites and not enough people, because we're all so fanned out and spread apart. But each has their own rules or ideas and none really want to expand beyond that.

So break offs occur, like churches, and spread across the interwebs and thus comes the dwindling death of forums, much like RP chat. .Com is toast. Valucre is running with either elitists or newbs, all dicks. Roleplay Gateway is enormous, but their people are flaky or their plots, closed depending on cliques etc. And .Org doesn't seem to be thriving either, yet each have enough active people to make one good forum run.

How is that? lol.

You guys need a ticker of the most recent 5 posts, or whatever -- there's too many forums for the amount of people that you have active.

I would like to point out that your thread got locked in the lobby because the lobby is for greeting and introducing yourself, not for random chats and posting, if you read it by our chief admin. Now you are in the correct forum for random postings and conversations.

Many of us do come on and check our stuff and do a random posting here and there, but we most likely don't have the time for a current rp. When we rp, we like to have the time to dedicate ourselves to such, and when our lives require more of our time, we do put things on hold for that rp.

There was a time which our site was thriving with rp, and that was a few hosts ago. Due to finances and hosts, we've had to move, and another time we were hacked. Since then when we found this lovely place to host our boards, the economy went downhill and requiring us to put our rp on hiatus till time allows us to finally get on here and enjoy some rp. I myself is one of those, I used to be on these boards doing plenty of rp when I could, and then when finances required me to dedicate more of my time to take care of my family, I did such. I personally like to rp when I have the time to do such and let my creative mind think of my rp'ing, and not let my life interfere with my rp.

As was brought up in the Lobby thread (which was locked for reason) and brought back up here, we do have lives outside of the forums, and for a variety of reasons, we don't have the time we would like to to engage in some RP here, besides a now and again thing, though we have the non-RP sections for us to keep in touch when we can hit the forums.


As for the ticker comment, if there was more of a request for it, and more activity, yeah, I'd probably consider it, but: we don't have the activity for it; we haven't had anyone asking for it; there's already two means to tell where new posts are (highlighted forum icons and the New Posts link at the top of every page; and we're limited to what is available for our vBulletin version.

Given that, it may be one of those things we'd consider later, but at this time, not a concern.

Actually Exodyus you do make an interesting point in your post perhaps more directly than you intended. Rp Communities like The Ayenees and other Rp sites do diverge but often enough through preconceptions like calling everyone on this or that site elitist or newb dicks. No Site or community doesn't have at least one jackass. However the way to merge them is in essence by not labeling people beyond Roleplayers sure some people are new to it others are old to it, but they all have that drive and want to roleplay somewhere when they can and if they can. Although That need drove them to find communities that match their want and in the end they break off into cliques and groups and want things done their own way. Its rather standard for people to always think they can do better than others because they have some flash of insight or think that this or that mod or admins a dick and so they will make their own. The only way to converge all sites into one would generally be to offer what it is they want and give them positions of authority and control over their preference, but even so that will divide up a forum into cliques.

P.S. I Locked the other thread, as T-virus explained The Lobby is more of look I'm here I need to be attacked and given cookies and a straight jacket , but the Peanut gallery is where you eat the cookie, think of it like a foyer and walking into the living room standing in the foyer is drafty cold and no prime seating options.

Perhaps instead of posting to chat about what happened to the RP communities or how places are run, you'd like to start an RP plot of your own Exodyus ?
There are players here, but every time a good plot gets going R/L rears it's ugly head and steals a player or two and people get all antsy when the story line slows down or a player has to bow out due to R/L obligations.
If you have the time to start a plot and others here find it of interest they will more then likely join in. But you can't expect it to run at a swift pace. I myself would love to have an on going RP, even if it takes a few days between postings by myself or other players...(A slow going RP is better then none if your RP deprived)
