Idea Man
"So you want me to check out your old boyfriend and try to recover the twenty gees he stole from you?" Jimmy leaned back in his chair and looked across his desk at the man before him.

"I'm not surprised you came to me rather than the APD Cardinal. Wouldn't look good if your congregation were to find out." He didn't like dealing with the church, they normally used their own agents and when they didn't it normally meant trouble. "Alright I'll do it, usual fee, and I'll keep my mouth well and truly shut."

He took his feet down from the desk and reached into the top drawer to pick up a notepad and a biro. "Fill me in on the details and then I'll get to work." The Cardinal filled Jimmy in on the target, what he looked like, where he tended to hang out, and even a few other bits of useful information. Jimmy noted them all down, then the Cardinal slide a stack of high denomination credit chips across the desk. The man of the cloth stood up, straightened his clothes out and offered Jimmy a hand to shake.

"Pleasure doing business with you Cardinal"
Jimmy said after he'd stood and shaken hands. Then the Cardinal left and Jimmy poured himself another cup of strong black coffee from the jug by his desk. "Time to get to work eh Barnacle?" He said to himself.

This was not his usual sort of establishment. They don't even let you in rhere without a suit. His usual drinking joint had a sticky floor and regulars that could open beer kegs with their teeth. This place was very different. There were people in here that he usually saw in the entertainment section of the morning paper, or treading the red carpet at the premier of the latest film. The Cardinal's boyfriend was sat at a table by the door to the kitchens. Jimmy was leaning against the bar drinking what must be the most expensive bottle of lager he'd ever payed for.

How to approach this one? He needed to play this carefully. If the man reacted badly, Jimmy would find himself on the end of a very thorough beating at the hands of the two neckless bouncers on the door.

(Okay I'll play A minor npc to see if I can get the ball rolling.)

John was a waiter at place for a long time. He took one look at the gum shoe and could tell he did not belong. Unlike the other diners he clearly was uncomfortable and formal, as if he was on business. He approached Jimmy's table cleared his throat to make his presence known. "Excuse me Sir, but the gentleman in the corner table asks you to please join him," The Waiter said softly motioning to the table wich the said boyfriend sat. Think fast Gumshoe.

"Brilliant" Jimmy muttered under his breath as he walked over to the table he'd been keeping an eye on.

"I suppose I should introduce myself." Jimmy said as he set his bottle down and then sat down. "I am James Thirlwell, but I go by Jimmy. I am a private investigator, and as you've probably worked out, I need to speak with you."

The Plot Thickens!

The 'boy friend' was early twenties and looked to be of italian descent. He had one of those scragly beards and curly hair. He dressed very well wich some how makes you hope he didn't blow all the money already. "Well mister Thirlwell, I am Romeo. What can I do for you?" he said innocently not tipping his hand yet.

"Pleased to meet you Romeo. Now to business. I am working for your good friend the Cardinal. Since I found you so easily I take it you are not in hiding. I was asked to speak to you about some money you borrowed from the Cardinal. Money which he would, as you might imagine, like back."

Romeo looks at the man giving him a once over."How do I know he sent you? What proof do you have?" the man said slightly flustered. He then regained his composure. "Fine, tell the Cardinal if he wants his money for Him, not one of his agents, to meet me in Ayenee park noon tommorow. I'll give HIM the money then,"Romeo said. He then gave Jimmy a gesture as if to say 'Dismissed' in a polite way.

(OOC: You just KNOW it can't be this easy.)

The look on Jimmy's face alone said that he wasn't going anywhere just yet.

"You must realise that he is not able to meet you so publicly. No doubt that is why you suggested it. I am sure that you know about the Church's other activities, having been so close to the Cardinal."

He did not bother lowering his voice, the bar was noisy and someone would have to be as close to him as the man opposite to hear him.

Well then something odd hapenned. Romeo took the money out of his wallet, put it in an envelope and slid it towards Jimmy. "There is your money. You can count it if you want. Now good day," The money is real but something seems off.

((Now I'm intrigued))

Jimmy placed his hand on the envelope and pulled it towards him. "I'm glad that we could resolve this civilly."

His normal level of paranoia was up. In fact it was doing cartwheels at the moment. The envelope felt bulky enough to hold 20,000 in notes, but he was a private eye afterall, so he had to check it himself.

The notes were emptied into his right hand from the envelope, and he started to check through them, counting as he went.

On that note romeo left the table and went into the back room. Becuase I am trying to get you out of the club so I can launch a new plot device.

Jimmy finished counting the money, drank the last mouthful of beer, and with the cash safely in his inside coat pocket walked from the bar. On his way back to the office he would ring the Cardinal on his mobile and arrange a handover. This case was almost worryingly easy, but his mother always told him not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

The day after!
*NEWS FLASH ROMEO HAS GONE MISSING! POLICE SUSPECT CARDINAL!*

This was the headline in the papers today. Just then the telephone in your office rings.

Jimmy swore, alot when he read the headlines in the papers. He normally got the Ayenee Herald and the Ayenee Star delivered. The Herald for the news, the Star for the sport. The Herald took a calm "Churchman suspected in missing person case" for its headline. The Star used a pun so bad it cannot be typed.

Then the phone rang. "Jimmy", he said when he picked it up. He liked to keep it simple. If he ever made enough to hire a secretary he'd let her do something posh when answering the phone.

"I take it you read the headlines," a somewhat familiar voice said. It was Officer Monday of Ayenee Capital PD. "Well Jim I have a witness placing you with Romeo last night. One of the boys will be over to ask you some questions. Please Don't leave your office," said the policeman then he hanged up.

"Brilliant. Just what I needed." Jimmy said to himself after he put the phone down. No doubt they'd take most of the day to get here and he'd never get any work done. He made himself a cuppa and then turned on the TV and sat back in his desk chair, with his feet up, to await the APD's arrival.

Well officer Monday and his partner came down to Jim's doorstep an hour later. Considering it was a 20 minute drive they made good time for a civil servant. After a Breif introduction Officer monday says," OK let us hear your story and please start from the begining."

"I was expecting questions, but alright." Jimmy sat down again and once more put his feet up.

"Once upon a time.." He laughed and took another drink. "How about you be a bit more specific Officer."

"Well then how about I take a crack at it. The cardinal paid you to find his ex boyfreind and get money. But after you did you Decided to keep the money for yourself and have the boyfriend dissapear," Officer Monday then added,"Am I getting warm?" He carefully watched Jim's reaction to all of this.

"Imaginative, but surely you can do better than that. What say, I killed him by sprouting wings, then dropping him into a volcano? Since you apparently don't know how to investigate, I guess I will have to waste more of my time by telling you everything I did yesterday."

He shook his head and took another drink of his coffee. "My sources told me that Romeo frequented the trendier bars in downtown. I found him in one of them, and met with the man. We talked, he handed over the money far more readily than I expected. I returned to my office, called the Cardinal, who came to get the money, then I took my fee and spent the rest of the evening in the company of an interesting punk lass called Nebula in Paradise."

((Paradise is a biker bar in the ACC, and a famous one.))
