Greetings!

Hello!

I heard about this place through Daelan, he's been hanging out playing in my IRC based RP. (Sinari)

Anyway, in the throes of winter when the snow piles up and boredom prevails, I thought I'd check out Ayenee.

Here-here!

I know several people have been looking for a new place to RP around here, and I'm happy to say I think I've found one, at least for myself. If anyone's interested, Pauline runs a small RP chat room in IRC that I would recommend.

I've been playing there for a few weeks now, and the RP has been outstanding. It's a relatively small place, but the quality is WAY up there. Characters are somewhat lower powered (ie, no Super-Saiya-Vampire-Lords-of-Hell), and do need to be approved before playing. Personally I found the character OKAY to be a painless process of "Here's my idea" followed by a "Cool, go play!" Pauline is the person to ask if you want to know anything about the place. She is always on. Always.

Anyway, it's a great piece of chat software and a good setup, particularly since it's the freeform RP that we're all used to from Ayenee. I would wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try!

And if you see Kynian, that's me!

Oh, and just so you know I'm not blowing smoke, here's a sample of the RP I've seen so far (Sadurean is Pauline's character):

-----------------------------

* Mendrick loves his job... Even if it doesn't involve the burning, fiery death aspect. With Sadurean's file recorded in his memory, he'll slowly make his way to the Avinash house - no sense rushing things, of course! He's brought his two nimodo bodyguards with him, the soliders hand-picked not just for their skills, but for their size and appearance. Intimidation is key to this part of the Intahera's job. After some time, he'll find himself on the doorste

<Mendrick> some time, he'll find himself on the doorstep, and will motion for the guards to move forwards and knock at the door.

<Sadurean> The bard is home, working studiously in his office on a new musical composition. He's been holed up for days, the only time spent away from his writing has been to teach the classes he's responsible for at the guild. Inspiration has a tendency to grip him and distract him from everything else. The knock at the door breaks through, and after a moment he realizes it for what it was and pads in stockinged feet to answer the door. Whe

<Sadurean> answer the door. When the portal opens to three Ourani soldiers, two nimodo and the cleric, those blues eyes widen in horror. He knows what Mendrick does, if not who he is specifically. "No! No no.. please don't burn my home! I haven't done anything!" He pleads as he steps back away from the door, putting distance between himself at the soldiers.

<Mendrick> "My dear boy... Making a scene is hardly appropriate, even for such a talented bard as yourself...An inspiring example for your students, I'm sure, but all I require of you is that you answer some... questions of mine. Now, won't you invite us in? It's rather cold out, and I'd hate to have to go to the effort of making a fire to keep warm, although..." He'll pause to tap one foot against the porch before continuing. "It wouldn't be for want of r

<Mendrick> continuing. "It wouldn't be for want of resources. No, I'd just hate to upset the young lady.... I take it Evette is well? Business thriving?" He's never so cold and cruel to his own, but Sadurean's just a troublesome boy, and a nonbeliever at that.

* Sadurean swallows, torn between wanting to slam the door in the man's face and the more sensible idea that he ought to just do as he's told. There's a moment of troubled indecision before he backs further out of the way, gesturing them inside. This cleric helped burn down half a block of homes, and he's heard the man is fiercely fanatical to the snake god. "She's well.. What questions?" The nimodo are decidedly intimidating, and

<Sadurean> decidedly intimidating, and he'll keep his distance from the two.

* Mendrick will smile, albeit coldly, as he enters, ignoring the boy until he's found a suitably comfortable chair and has seated himself. With a wave of the hand, one of the nimodo moves to the doorway to stand, and the other positions himself next to the priest's chair. "Have a seat, young man. I'm just paying this visit because we've been *concerned* about you. You've been so helpful in the past, but now you act like you don't want anything to do wit

<Mendrick> act like you don't want anything to do with us! You must understand how hurt the good Lieutenant Stone is. I'm merely here to check in on you... See that you're well... Find out if you have anything for us... That is what you do, isn't it? Provide information to those who request it?"

<Sadurean> There's a fleeting glance towards the door as the soldier moves to guard it. He never shoveled away the snow from the last big blizzard, so the kitchen door is hardly an option for escape. Sadurean watches Mendrick settle down in his living room, the Ourani uniform such a symbol of opposition to his heritage. He schools himself to a polite tone and posture, pushing away the nervousness. "Not anymore.. I teach now. That's all. Yo

<Sadurean> now. That's all. You're wasting your time, I'm afraid." It's difficult to ask without grating his teeth, "Would you like something to drink.. ahh.. Sergeant?"

<Mendrick> "Mmm... No, I'll pass." Mendrick sits for a moment, appearing deep in thought, before rising from the chair once more and pacing the room, hands behind his back - the nimodo guards' eyes never leave Sadurean for a moment, glaring at him, almost daring him to try something while their leader mumbles to himself. "Hmmm... No. No, this just isn't working like I thought. Jayda had said you might be reticent, but I figured that you were an intelligent

<Mendrick> I figured that you were an intelligent boy, and that you would make the wise choice." He moves over to the fireplace for a moment, still talking quietly, and pauses, looking at the fire. "Perhaps... Yes..." He'll turn around and begin moving towards the boy, the nimodo who had been at his side before advancing now as well. "Perhaps we will have to persuade you. Tell me boy, do you *fear* the fire? Do you think you can face His will an

<Mendrick> "Perhaps we will have to persuade you. Tell me boy, do you *fear* the fire? Do you think you can face His will and not cower before it?" There's a fire in his eyes now as he pauses, only a few feet from Sadurean.

* Sadurean has tangled with nimodo before, in Ama'til, and he has little desire to mess with them again. They're taller, stronger, and all around tougher than him. His thoughts flit to the pistol he has hidden away, but he would only get one shot and there are three of them. Mendrick's words send a chill through him, though the man speaks of fire. "Listen, Sergeant.. sir.. If you tell me what you want information about, maybe I can a

<Sadurean> about, maybe I can ask around. I don't do that kind of work anymore." It's a blatant lie, but he speaks it without hesitation, well practiced at spouting falsehoods. "I really don't think persuasion is necessary." He's never been fond of the way the Ourani persuade.

<Mendrick> "My enemies are not merely those who oppose my people with sword and war - my enemies too are the ones who blaspheme my name, who pay lip service and speak only lies! These are the ones who will pay the most dearly, these cowards you must seek out and put to the fires of truth! All lies are made plain in my holy fire, and all liars are consumed!" The priest's voice grows louder and deeper with each word - indeed, it seems odd to hear such a voice c

<Mendrick> indeed, it seems odd to hear such a voice come from such a small, sickly man. There's an odd glow about him now - the nimodo make gestures and look away from him as he continues, drawing closer to Sadurean. For an instant, reflected in the man's eyes, there seems to *be* fire. "You will tell me what you know." The words come with an odd, unearthly force that causes the nimodo to cover their ears. The priest is attempting to force his will i

<Mendrick> The words come with an odd, unearthly force that causes the nimodo to cover their ears. The priest is attempting to force his will into the boy through magical means, with suggestion in the words and attempts to conjure images of a fiery death in Sadurean's head.

<Sadurean> The boy shrinks back as the cleric, though small and sickly he may be, advances on him. His breathing shortens as he struggles to tear his eyes away from Mendrick's yet he fails. There's some unseen force holding him and he can almost feel the heat of the fire crawling along his flesh. Jayda has always been one to fear for her tactical methods, but this cleric.. it's an entirely new experience. "No.. I.." He struggles to force

<Sadurean> He struggles to force out a denial, but it feels as if heat grows when he tries to continue his deception.

<Mendrick> "Tell me *everything*. You cannot match *His* will, you cannot *hide* from His wrath. Many have tried to hide the truth from me, and I have burned them all. You will tell me everything, or you will watch as I put everything you know to Holy Fire - your home, your *wife*, everything, before I come for you. I am not known for my patience with deceivers, heretics, and all enemies of Osurak, so I would advise that you speak up. Or shall I give you an e

<Mendrick> you speak up. Or shall I give you an example?" His right hand twitching, Mendrick raises it as if preparing to cast. In the fireplace, the flames are leaping wildly, dancing with every word.

<Sadurean> Maybe it's because he knows that Evi is safely far from harm, it gives him some strength of will, a shred of resistance to the raw onslaught of mental force. It isn't much, but it stops him from completely succumbing and spilling secrets, at least for the moment. "I don't know what you want me to tell you.." There's sweat beading on his brow, the half-lie difficult to speak. He can almost feel a dragons claw wrapping around hi

<Sadurean> claw wrapping around his throat to try and choke the words away.

<Mendrick> He's holding out longer than some of the past cases, but Mendrick will only smile and try to focus more force into his words, moving his twitching, bony hand a few inches nearer to the boy's throat. "Resistance. Tell me about those who would fight the Ourani. Give me names, give me locations, times, codes - tell me *everything* you know about resistance efforts in this town. It may save you from the fire." Mendrick is a sight to behold now,

<Mendrick> Mendrick is a sight to behold now, the frail limbs and pale skin blended with the curving red designs of his tattoos. Sadurean might notice him move his left hand up to the beads wrapped around his hand, beginning to remove them. The nimodo see some significance in this, as they shoot each other worried glances.

<Sadurean> Normally he's able to carefully weave around the truth, giving Jayda small tidbits that are heavily filled out with fabricated substance. Durean can feel his control slipping, and it's an entirely new sensation that's altogether terrifying. The words escape before he can stop them, "Alex Dianthys.. He's gathering people to counter-attack against Tinathys." Why did he just say that?! Anything else.. any lie! A dozen clever dece

<Sadurean> A dozen clever deceptions spring to mind, anything to try and salvage this, but he can't force the words out and he can -feel- the heat burning him though there's no actual fire yet. Is it the cleric that stands before him or the wrathful dragon god, Osurak? "I don't know all the people, but I know some. Emil Emelbur, Corthas Sinay, Greggor Landis.. Maybe Adina Galen. Dianthys is planning a large strike, and everyone is to

<Sadurean> and everyone is to target specific officers, to break the chain of command."

<Mendrick> Now we're getting somewhere. The priest will pause from unwrapping the beads for a moment as he smiles inwardly. Emelbur. Sinay. Landis. Galen. Dianthys. "When is this strike? Where will it be, what will happen? Who are the targets, and who targets them?" He's dragging it out, enjoying this altogether too much. It would be simple enough to just walk away and have the lot of them arrested, but why stop here? No, the only thing to do is a

<Mendrick> here? No, the only thing to do is apply more force, to try and squish any remaining resistance. The might of a god is strong, and opening up to channel more power is dangerous, but the doubts are only a sign that he's still able to control himself. "I have the power to save or damn you, Sadurean Avinash. Which will it be?"

<Sadurean> He's been in a situation like this before, which is likely why Jayda returned to him. She knows he'll talk. Still, after what happened with the council Sadurean had vowed to never tell the woman anything again. Now he can't even choose not to answer. It's no break of courage that keeps him talking, but the tremendous compulsion that's crushing his will. "Tinathys.. the council hall, where he keeps his office. It's supposed to be

<Sadurean> It's supposed to be something big. I don't know who targets who.. My target is.. Jayda.." If there were a physical representation of his internal fight, the struggling would be quite a show of resistance. Instead the boy simply stands there, cowering back slightly from the man even as he can't tear away from the gaze.

* Sachi has joined #Sinari_Town

<Mendrick> "When, boy? *When* does it happen? How will it happen? Will the Frost Watch be involved? Just answer, and this all ends. You're only prolonging the agony!" Jayda will no doubt enjoy the notion that Sadurean, of all people, is her would-be assassin. The boy doesn't look like much, but then, when you can light a man on fire, no one looks like much.

<Sadurean> "I don't know!" He answers quickly, clinging to that one statement as if it were a denial instead of a simple lack of information. "Stop this.. please. I don't.. " Is that break away a sign that he might be slipping away from Mendrick's domination, or does he truly not know anymore. He feels the cleric's will resurge and his pleas evaporate. "Dianthys said to watch for the attack. He said it would be huge, and everyone would

<Sadurean> huge, and everyone would know. That's when we're to strike our targets."

* Mendrick will stare at Sadurean wordlessly for several moments, eyes boring into the bard's, and then he'll drop his arm, still twitching, to his side. The glow slowly begins to fade, and with it the heat. In a few moments, the flames in the fireplace are back to their usual, much calmer state, and the paleness of skin has given way the colour comes back into it. "Pray, Sadurean Avinash. Pray that I do not discover that you lie, or that you have withh

<Mendrick> discover that you lie, or that you have withheld information. All who attempt it are inevitably caught, and their fate is a terrible one. You will not breathe a word of my presence here, for if you do, I will call down the Dragon's fire from the sky, and you, and everything you know, will perish."

<Sadurean> The control ends, and Sadurean almost falls over when he feels Mendrick release his hold. It feels as if he's returning from a dream, but at the same time there's a startling clarity that everything that just happened was quite real. All moisture disappears from his mouth and tongue. He has nothing to say as he hurridly backs away from the man with an expression bordering on panic. In the office.. the pistol is in the office. If h

<Sadurean> in the office. If he can get there he can kill this man and maybe the dagger next to it will suffice with the nimodo. It would be a noble sacrifice, and perhaps be enough to salvage the plans. He takes a few steps in that direction, self-preservation fighting against the small shred of courage he commands.

<Mendrick> "I did not tell you to *leave*!" At once Mendrick is descending back into that state, raising his hands to the boy. He's trying to quickly channel power directly from his mind into Sadurean's - a technique rarely seen from an Intahera. In a way, he's hoping that, since Sadurean isn't trained to handle the divine power, it will momentarily overload him and cause him to come crashing down. In untrained or wild hands, it's very dangerous, and for a m

<Mendrick> hands, it's very dangerous, and for a moment, Mendrick prays silently that Sadurean's not secretly touched by a god in his own right - the last recorded incident of *that* was a disaster. The nimodo are moving too, one going after the boy and one moving to Mendrick's side.

<Sadurean> The words jar through him, raking his nerves, but the divine attack completely blind-sides him. All thoughts of retaliation shatter unter the assault. He gives a half-choked cry of pain as he drops to his knees, holding his head. The only god that might look in on this one is Kalidus, and Sadurean hasn't been terribly devout over the years. The nimodo's shadow falls across him but the boy doesn't even notice.

<Mendrick> "Raise him to his feet. I would have him look me in the face when I speak." The nimodo over the boy will try to grab his arms and heave him rather unceremoniously up as Mendrick walks over, that eerie glow back again. "Boy, When you hear my voice, know that it carries *His* might behind it! What you have felt now is but a *sliver* of the dragon's wrath flow through you - a wrath that *I* wield against the heretics, the enemies, and the liars!

<Mendrick> heretics, the enemies, and the liars! You will tell *no* one what has transpired here - you have no choice. Osurak wills it, and you cannot oppose him!"

* Sadurean reels as the soldier drags him up from his knees, his head aching now as if he had been struck multiple times. His blue eyes are grow flat as Mendrick speaks, the divine spell crushing any thoughts of warning Dianthys to abort the plan. He can feel the strength of Osurak again, the scorching heat and the threat of a fiery death looming. "Nothing.." He gasps, just wanting the Ourani to leave as any trace ideas of oppositi

<Sadurean> trace ideas of opposition are quelled. The bard doesn't even fight the grasp of the nimodo, though the scaled touch fills him with revulsion.

<Mendrick> "Exactly. You will tell them *nothing*. You will remember this, and you will remember what it felt like to try and oppose a *god*, but you will tell no one." He'll wave to the nimodo holding Sadurean, who will let go of the boy with a bit of a push, and he will turn for the door. "I believe I can show myself out. If I were you, I'd wait a while before trying anything so exerting as standing. Do have a *pleasant* evening, Sadurean Avinash."

<Mendrick> *pleasant* evening, Sadurean Avinash."

* Sadurean falls to the floor, the thick rug cushioning some of the impact. He's in a daze, the world ever so slightly shifting in his vision. When the soldiers open the door the cold air sends a deep involuntary shiver through him, but he can't push away that intangible heat that smolders on the edge of his being. He's felt more alive and in control after bar brawls that he lost.

Hello Pauline, I'm Mith, as you know Daelan I'm sure you've been filled in on the basics of the place like who does what and where and why theres a cat who hands out straight jackets, yet please jump in where ever you feel comfy.

Well, I'm Madi and I'd be the cat who hands out the Offical Ayenee Jacket..*Offers up one very white jacket with long arms that buckle in the back, adorned with many shiny keyless locks* I'm also Co-Mod of this forum and the Peanut Gallery. If you've got any questions Daelan wont answer..ask away :)

Ha-HAAA!

HEY! I answer questions all the time... They're just usually smartass answers that offer very little in the way of useful information! I'm more jerk than useless! Get it right!

Anyway, to completely contradict the above, Ayenee is mechanically very similar to Sinari in that it's a freeform RP which uses (ideally) chat software as its primary venue. It started in the Arts & Entertainment section of Yahoo Chat, thus the phonetic name "Ayenee" as coined by milady fair Anna.

Since the beginning of Ayenee in 1997 there have been a handful of websites, forums, blogs, and the like in support of the game. This forum is simply the most recent iteration of one of the longest-standing of those forums and the community it hosts has been playing for a while now (even though this version of the boards here aren't years and years old).

Since Yahoo Chat disabled their User Created Rooms, we've been lacking in a good, standard place where RP happens regularly in a chat-based environment, and I originally stumbled across Sinari in the hunt for such.

While mechanically similar, Sinari and Ayenee are conceptually very different. Sinari is a concrete, mapped fantasy/steampunk setting. Sinari is a city in a world set in a timeline where the guns are one-shot, the gunpowder is hard to come by, and indoor plumbing is a novelty afforded by the wealthy. Sounds like my home town in Georgia, now that I think of it... except for the gunpowder thing. You can buy black powder at the corner store back home. Sinari is also a city in perpetual winter, as it's in a damn cold climate. I think this is just for flavor... Not sure. Heh

Ayenee is... (heh, inside joke) Wow. Explaining this one as simply as possible... Ayenee is a material incarnation of an infinite number of universes in an infinite number of time periods, all converging in some zany nexus to make the common place/time that is Ayenee. This is really just a fancy explanation to justify the fact that folks wanted to play flame-thrower-weilding Super-saiyans piloting 60-foot robot Mecha-suits vs. Zombie Black-Ops Sorcerer Squads led by Kraken-riding ancient Grecian heroes.

Anything freaking goes in Ayenee. Vampires. Anime characters. Spellcasters, Swordslingers, Cannon-fire and futuretech... And it's all happening in the same place, along a common timepline that is the continuity of the game. This is --I believe-- one of several reasons why Ayenee got as big and as popular as it did. Because anything was acceptable.

But I digress. Our little game here has seen better days. We've lost a lot of players to online games like WoW and still more have been lost due to a lack of chat locale since Yahoo screwed us out of a home. And basically at this point I think people are just looking for a place to play a cool RPG.

Which is where Sinari comes in. It is in fact a cool RPG and it too has suffered at the erosion of online text-based RPGs. Whether Ayenee goes and plays in Sinari or if Sinari serves as a bridge to IRC for Ayenee is anyone's guess. But I thought to myself, "Hey, here are two cool groups of people both into the same approximate thing, both looking for new players and some RP excitement! 'Least I can do is introduce 'em."

So there it is. Any questions..?

Hi, I'm T-Virus Licker also known as a pain-in-da-ass most times when I am around. Mith can vouch for that as I've strucken him down with many celestial bodies in turn for him smacking me with Koi. As of late I've been a ghost due to a lot of rl needing my attention.

I say after all this, welcome to the boards and glad you can join us. If Daelan sent you, then you must be good company. It's good to see of another place where rp can be enjoyed, but sadly I won't possibly be going there due to rl and I'm attached to my characters who will most likely not fit in. A few around here could possibly vouch for that (I tend to play very powerful characters that like to wreak a little havoc). We hope that you enjoy your stay here with us as well and are able to find some rp as well in our quaint little corner. Till then, Laterz.
