Yeah, it sucked.
Tigger was a good friend to me (better than a lot of the people I knew at the time), and deserved a much better send-off than he got. I still feel pretty shit about it, and in retrospect, I keep thinking I should have let him go sooner.
Your sympathies are all really appreciated but like I said, I'd rather not dwell on that matter.
It’s good to see that the community is still doing so well - but now that I’m working a 40-hour week, I’m afraid I don’t have the free time I used to, and my energy is all going into flight simulation at this point.
Madi, the chair you’re describing was pretty much just an armchair with a modified subwoofer built into it. It didn’t really move anywhere. It just pretended to be an engine and kicked you stoutly in the ass every time you hit the ground a bit too hard.
This thing I’m working on is light-years ahead of that old game – I call it the OverRider (a ominous-sounding pun on the designer’s name for it, the JoyRider). It’s essentially a full-motion platform that delivers pitch and roll cues to your inner ear to convince you that you actually ARE sitting inside an airplane. It’s a very elegant machine for all of its simplicity.
As part of an agreement with a local flying club, I’ll be renting out the OverRider to help train student pilots and educate them on the effects of how motion affects the inner ear during instrument flying (you know, when you can’t see crap outside the windshield).
When I can find some time, I’ll be happy to start a new thread to show you guys some pictures – I really don’t wanna hijack this one out of courtesy to Deranged :3 (was it Josh? I can’t remember – I’m very sorry!).
Tim, it’s good to see you again as well. Like customer service for an American company, trade labor is always a great source of income. Like yourself, my sister’s boyfriend is working the oil sands in Alberta and he’s just raking it in.
