David_MacCallister
Codename - Joseph
A shadowed figure stood tall and proud, his breath coming in slow and calm cycles. Crimson blood trickled down his right side and to the tip of the knife in his right hand as he gazed at the dying body of a young woman who once made an attempt on his life. The feeling of power and dominance was the driving force behind his actions and vengeance was the key that opened the feelings to his heart.
Dominic Vincent wiped the blood of his nemesis, Yae Kisaragi, from the blade of his knife as she fell away to the green forest floor beneath her. Yae gasped sharply and in vain as her life flowed away as freely as the blood pumping from the wound in her chest. But instead of feeling the hard impact of the ground against her fataly wounded body, Yae felt comfort and the strong arms of her one-time lover and best friend bracing her from behind.
David MacCallister caught the fallen assassin and slowly lowered her to the ground, his veteran eyes widening at the sight of his friend dying in his arms. The hardened operative felt his emotions tearing at him and a profound sense of anguish as his blood-stained hands were splashed by fresh blood. As he cradled his friend, David swore to himself that he would kill the man responsible for this incident. But he did not have far to look.
Dominic sheathed his knife and stepped away from David and towards a waiting ATV. As far as he was concerned, everything was business as usual, as per the Assassin's Guild rules and guidelines and the Rite of Vengeance. If one assassin kills the family member of another assassin, the second assassin is allowed to take vengeance against the first assassin. When Yae killed Dominic's sister Mia, he was well within his right to counter Yae. If David were to counter against Dominic, then a legitimate contract would go out against David and any assassin could take the bounty, as per the Assassin's Guild rules.
"I swear that I will kill you, Dominic..." David spoke aloud to Dominic as he closed the eyes of his friend, then turned his tear-strewn eyes to his former mentor. David quietly and slowly reached his right hand to his hip, only to discover that his trademark .45 Special Ops Command (SOCOM) pistol was not there. It was then that he noticed Yae had her pistol.
"And if you do, you'll have the entire guild after you." Dominic continued to walk away and retrieved the key to his waiting ATV. He was cold, but an elite member of the Assassin's Guild, and well versed in Capitol City's laws and the Assassin's Guild rules. He knew that his former student was headstrong, but would he violate the principles that he was trained upon?
"So be it. I'll just take on the entire guild." David moved with swiftness and latched onto Yae's 9mm, but before he could take aim on Dominic, a red dot formed on the pistol's action. At the other end of that dot was Dominic's gun, trained perfectly on Yae's weapon. He could fire and David's hand would be severely wounded.
"Then you're a fool..." With those words from Dominic, the entire landscape dissolved and everything became a blur. The sounds of nature and the voices of the two men were replaced by a beeping that was growing louder and louder. Finally, the beeping became very clear and a blinding light shone from the east through paned glass.
David groaned loudly as his eyes finally focused on the blaring alarm clock next to his bed. Sunlight filtered into his bedroom and reflected off of the dull surfaces surrounding him. Another dream, ending the same way again, overtook David and haunted him yet again. It was the same story for over a month now, and it was just as painful as Yae's actual death. The only difference was that David had an empty bottle of Jack Daniels next to his bed every single night and a massive headache every morning.
This was now a routine for the former Assassin's Guild member. His day would start with a shower and several home remedies for a hangover, followed by breakfast on the run and a quick glance at www.ACC.org/AssassinGuild on his computer to see which assassins would be out and performing hits. He would use that information to make good on his promise and eliminate a member of the Assassin's Guild.
But this day would be slightly different than most. He was on a manhunt for someone not affiliated with the guild. This person was an old acquaintance, thought to be dead after meeting the tip of Yae's sword. Yakuza Suboshi of the Blood Lotus Syndicate was rumored to still be alive, and also believed to be the one that funded the hit against Yae and David. Today would be a rather bloody day.
A whole case of life-ending tools were placed before David, waiting to be used after a year of collecting dust. But they would not be used. Another set of weapons would be utilized by the assassin to extract whatever information may be needed to hunt down Dominic, and anyone affiliated with the guild working for him.
.....
Later that afternoon, in the Eurasian District of Capitol City, business was picking up and traffic was becoming heavy. Several automobiles were gridlocked and among those cars were two armored sedans and one limousine. The cars belonged to the remnants of the Blood Lotus Syndicate and a VIP was being transported.
"What's the holdup?" The cold and heartless voice of a man in his thirties arose from the back of the limo. Suboshi, a crime boss for the Syndicate, was very annoyed at the traffic jam, but he hid it quite well. The only thing that betrayed his calm exterior was a minor twitch from his left hand. It was a damaged nerve caused by a gunshot courtesy of David MacCallister.
"Traffic is blocked for quite a distance." The driver of the limo spoke in a fairly common Eurasian accent, and he seemed calm about the fact that he was seated not more than 6 feet away from a convicted killer. Either he was paid very well by the syndicate, or he was very brave.
"Well find a way around it. I haven't got all day." Yakuza Suboshi grunted with anger and pressed the switch to the limo's privacy glass, raising it. The back of the limo was soundproof and with the glass up, nobody could see through either compartment.
Only a block away, a man on a bicycle was maneuvering through traffic at a slow pace. He was dressed in ragged garbs and looked as if he had seen better days. He would more appropriately be labeled as a bum. In his mouth was a cigarette, but it was not lit. His expression was that of frustration, as if he hadn't had anything to eat or drink all day.
The bike slowly rolled up alongside of the limo's driver and the man gently rapped his knuckles on the glass. The driver rolled the window down, scowling at the dirty man next to his car. After several seconds, the bum spoke in a rough voice.
"Hey, you got a light, man?" The bum spoke, eyeing the Eurasian driver. As the driver reached into his pocket to retrieve a lighter, the man on the bike moved the cigarette and exhaled as hard as he could. A small dart loaded with a neurotoxin exploded from the paper and tobacco, striking the driver in the neck.
Suboshi was unaware of what was happening, and began showing signs of frustration. He was angry and finally decided to vent towards the driver, but before he could speak, the limo began to move, pushing against other cars as if they were mere toys. Suboshi, once angry, shrugged and leaned back in his seat.
"That's more like it. A ruined paint job is nothing compared to an angry boss." Suboshi may have been candid for that brief moment, but it changed to surprise as the car began to accellerate and swerve violently. The crime boss yelled in wonder, banging his hand on the privacy glass.
An hour later, the damaged limousine came to a halt and Suboshi, angered beyond belief, depressed the switch to the privacy glass and was surprised to see that there was no driver, but it was dark through the driver's windshield. In the distance, Suboshi could see the dim lighting of Capitol City. Was he out of town?
The door to the limo suddenly opened and a hand reached in, grabbing the Yakuza by the collar. As he came to a violent stop against the dirty ground beneath him, Suboshi glared towards his assailant and gasped. Standing before him was a man thought to have been killed. David MacCallister was a golem, a silent being, and the source of his sorrow seemed to be before him.
"MacCallister?! You should be dead!" Suboshi backed away from David, who calmly approached him. The crime boss showed a bit of aggrivation, but quickly covered it up and pulled a knife from his pants pocket. With the flick of a button, a knife blade appeared from the switchblade handle.
"Why'd you hire Dominic, Suboshi? Can't do things on your own?" David continued to approach Suboshi, but now with a slightly quicker pace. The look of anger and determination immediately took over and the assassin sprung into action, prepared to settle a debt.
The Yakuza swiftly swung his knife towards David, but was surprised when the assassin caught his hand and swerved to the side. This caused Suboshi to lose balance. David monopolized on this and pushed him harshly, towards the edge of a canyon cliff. Suboshi yelled and fought to maintain his balance and finally landed on one knee with his knife firmly in hand.
"Last chance, Suboshi. Why did you hire Dominic?" David stood his ground, leering down at Suboshi. His right hand gently twitched and a metallic click sounded off under his coat sleeves. A pistol dropped into his hand, loaded and ready to fire. It was a small sidearm, loaded with three rounds. It was a custom Section One pistol meant as a last resort only.
"Because I needed to keep Yae busy while I handled you personally." Suboshi growled in response and swiftly charged David, throwing his foot towards him. David immediately sidestepped the attempted kick and threw his knee into the Yakuza's stomach, stunning him.
Suboshi dropped again, but his moment of rest was not long. David immediately followed through with a left cross punch and a high kick to Suboshi's face, which threw him back and towards the canyon's edge. Suboshi immediately rolled off of the edge, but caught onto an extended tree root. He now hung perilously 1,500 feet above the ground. It was a lethal drop onto jagged rocks.
"Care to try again?" David stood at the edge of the cliff and cocked the pistol on his hand. He knew that Suboshi was lying to him, as his response was an obvious ploy. The thought of just merely pulling the trigger and killing Suboshi was tempting, but he had another idea.
"Just shoot me and get it over with! I'm a dead man already!" Suboshi plead with David, who seemed intent on shooting him. He knew that he was dead, as his boss was a ruthless man that did not allow failure. Either at David's hand or his boss, it was going to be a bad ending.
David slowly released the hammer on the pistol and put it away, taking a step away from Suboshi. The panic was obvious, as the Yakuza knew that he was being left to die. After moments of silence, a familiar rumbling sound above Suboshi began to grow louder and louder. Suboshi gazed to the sky in wonder and immediately began struggling to climb when he saw the underside of his limo rolling over the cliff edge.
The limo rolled over the edge of the cliff and struck Suboshi, knocking him off of the cliff edge. The tumbling car seemed to pin the crime lieutenant with every spin, until moments later a fireball erupted from the falling wreckage. Suboshi was consumed by the flame, gasoline from the tank spraying into him as he fell with the car.
David stood silent at the top of the canyon, glaring down at the sight before him. The car continued to tumble, the bright orange flames igniting the twilight sky. With a deep breath, David discarded his bum clothing, revealing himself in his old Section One body armor. Instead of the normal sidearms associated with a Section One officer, he wore new weapons.
Yae's sword was strapped to his left side, as was her 9mm pistol. On his belt were three flash grenades and extra magazines. Lastly, the one weapon that made David the assassin he is today was strapped to his back. It was a sniper rifle, but more compact. It was a Section One-Feisar Arms joint venture, merely in the experimental stage, but David had the prototype.
Capable of firing fully automatic or single shot with impressive stability and a special scope, this weapon was only 1/3 the size of a PSG-1 rifle. It held a clip of twenty special rounds, each one labeled with a specific name. Each round was meant for someone, and a majority of them were aligned with the Assassin's Guild.
David was back with a mission, and that was to avenge his friend Yae, and find Alliana. He had many questions and the bullets in his rifle were the tools to extract those answers. He had to begin somewhere and the flashing red and blue lights in the distance were a good start. A rumor that the Ayenee Police Department had furnished information to Suboshi to give to Dominic meant that a Section One operative or insider was working for the APD.
"Alright Alec, old friend... Let's hear you sing." David knelt to the ground and raised his right hand to his ear. If Alec Hicks still had his codec in operative condition, he would get answers. Deeply, David hoped that Alec had nothing to do with the events surrounding Yae's death, but he had to leave no stone unturned.
But one question would have to be answered before all others. Would Alec Hicks, codename Janus, former operative and co-commander of Section One, answer the call of the codec? David would know if his three short beeps were answered by anything at all. Alec Hicks was up...
