Alright as the Almighty Admin.....Well as the admin Deranged and I were talking over the page he is making for the community and we decided we wanted the WHOLE communities Input. So we have a few different formats we want you all to look at.

A
B
C

So Please Vote on the formate you like the best and then add a post defining which of the different Link types you like from Format C. Thank you all for your time and patience in this matter.

Majority has voiced that they want to see the forum title graphic on the website. so here ya go.

http://silkwebproductions.com/NewAyeneeOrg/d/

Majority have said they like link type B. So I will probably go with link type B unless anyone has any other ideas.

I had thought of an expanding links menu like the old AyeneeIs link menu, which, if we're going to have guidelines etc.. I think would be best.

~States that she likes 'b' the best because it's easy to see, and it doesn't look as .com-ey as c.~

mmm...still like b. ~isn't a particular fan of the background lines. Also notes that she really likes the boards as they are now and is wondering why the sudden need for a change?~

I like e site with the D-link style. I also, though, am not a fan of the background pattern you have (the lines) or the scrolling marquee at the top. Scrolling marquee is just annoying, and a lot of people have JS disabled until they allow it (at least the smart ones like me do, anyway).

Also Tifferzzz, he isn't talking about redoing the entire forums, just making a main page. If you go to www.newayenee.org, you'll notice it just automatically redirects you to here. He wants to make a main page (so that it doesn't autoredirect to here, but instead has content on it). This is good, as it will help with our search rankings a bit (as the title page will hav searchable words on them and meta tags as opposed to a lone redirect page).

I'd drop the lines and limit or eliminate the scrolling text. Other then that it looks pretty good.

This is good.. honest feedback... thankyou!

Anyhow, Everything you see is just stuff thrown together, ideas etc. None of it has to stay as it is. I am simply throwing ideas out there, collecting feedback and ideas and throwing some more ideas out there. I want this to be a community involved project, a project where everyone can say.. "I was a part of that." or "That was my idea."

You make a good point about the average person having JS disabled, I had thought of this also. (I do the same as you, Ceros.) But like I said, simply throwing ideas out there. SJ asked for templates and examples, so that is what I'm doing.

By all means.. please keep the suggestions coming! I imagine some day we will all agree on something. Keep in mind however, it's impossible to make everyone happy, don't be afraid to bend a little bit in your opinions.

I do like the idea of having a banner back!!

Not sure what you mean by this, I'm a bit slow today. First day back to work on about three hours of sleep. I'm supposed to be working nights, so I got myself on a night time schedule. But wouldn't you know they throw in "Oh by the way, you need to be here at 7:45am for orientation" Would have been nice to know this BEFORE I got myself on a night time schedule.

Anywho, I have several mixed opinions and as it stands now, everyone wants or likes something different. Unless everyone can agree on the things they do like and the things they don't like... we can go on like this forever... in which case I'll have to look to the admins for the final say.

So far, I have at least two people saying they like E.. one saying they like B.. one saying they like C... (See how this is becoming complicated for me?)

I have had one person (not a forum patron) say they feel that the title on E is too small. I tend to agree, yet at the same time I disagree. Thoughts on this?

Two say they don't like the lines in the background... no one else has said they like them.. so bye bye lines.

I've only heard from two people on their prefered link choice, both have different opinions. I need some more feedback here.

(Note: I feel that my opinion should count also. Thus far I would have to go with E and link type D. That makes three saying they like E and two saying they like link type D. Majority rules... let's get some more feedback here.)

(Another Note: I appologize if my count is wrong. I've lost track trying to keep track of all the differing opinions.)

I don't mind a scrolling banner, but my question is: Why JAVA?

Hell, even with JavaScript, you can finagle a non-moving banner alternative if they don't have JavaScript enabled. If they don't have Java (or are like me and have it disabled in FF via NoScript), they'll just see an ugly block.

I like the D link style, but I agree with Ceros. The line background just looks bad. And why give the main container an absolute off-center position? That just looks bad to me.

You should also be making it with multiple browsers in mind. The E page looks fairly different in IE than in Firefox.

IE: D links are Right aligned and span the whole width of the column
FF: D links are Centered and don't span the width of the column (space on the right)

IE: Separator between links and content is black
FF: Separator between links and content is that light gray

The more stuff you try, the more inconsistencies you can introduce. Plus there are two other "major" browsers to test (Opera and Safari).

Out of them all, I'd say the E page with D links is best, but there's still some things that need to be improved.

Thanks for pointing that out.

The problem is rather simple and something I didn't take into consideration because I am unable to test on any other resolutions outside of 800x600 and 1024x768.

I'll need someone to check it out in other resolutions after I make some adjustments. But it will be a pain to have to wait until the next day to see if the adjustments made a difference.

I'm sorry, I'm not a professional.. I'm sorry I don't use fancy editors and other WYSIWG editors.. I do all my stuff by hand, one character at a time.... wait.. no, I'm not sorry, because I am learning.

If anyone would be willing to get with me on messenger or something sometime that can view the site under different resolutions, It would be greatly appreciated. Until thursday I'll be available somewhere around 4pm CST till 11pm or so. After thursday I'm not for sure what my schedule is going to look like. If not, I'll pack up shop and head over to my brother's. He's got a better system for me to work with.

That is providing this is the site we are going to end up going with... it seems people are forgetting that these are just thrown together and thrown out there for people to look at and give feedback on. I'm not going to devote hours to something that is going to be thrown out because we go with something else.

I said I wanted feedback.. ideas suggestions... not to have it cut to pieces. You can cut the final product to pieces.. because that's the one that will count. These are just for referance.

Well first off On E, I like the coloration and format fo far as it is, The scrolling Marque perhaps if done in Html or a less IE restricted coding system would be good to keep I think that it can be a good way to keep people apprised of things perhaps making a setting for it to show the latest posts or something. As for different resolution settings I can go up to 1280 X 1024 so I can help you with that. Also I love the D link style on E. Anyhow Man so far the templates you have tossed our way to look over look good, keep up the good work.

So what if it's not the final product? That's part of the learning process, figuring out the best way to do things and seeing how to make them look good.

Thanks DSX, I'll try that.

the marquee code only works in IE last I knew... and I don't know of any other way to do it that will work in all browsers outside of javascript.. but I'm sure someone will have some suggestions.

As for your friend agreeing about the Java...who cares? What are you trying to prove? That it's crappy and not a good idea overall? I think we've established that already. Enough is enough.

Larger overhead, no accessibility, no alternate if they don't have it (people see nothing instead of just a non-scrolling banner).

But if you want to be a dick about it, fine.
