((OOC- I think not SJ you said they have to post atleast once every MOnday, Wednesday and Friday, not by 6 am Monday or what not, so you can hold thine horses))

You didn't post on friday, saturday, or sunday. Thus, you are dinged 50 XP.

Unless you made a post sometime that I missed...?

Correct me if i'm wrong.

21st- Monday First post
23rd-Wednesday Second Post
24th-Thursday Third post. Applies to Friday Post following as you stated in your own rules you can post on non required days and have it apply forward.
28th Monday Fourth Post.

You have been corrected, good day sir.

24th-Thursday Third post. Applies to Friday Post following as you stated in your own rules you can post on non required days and have it apply forward.

Sunova.... I knew I forgot to correct something.

Alright. You are off the hook. But I meant to fix that wording...

It should be that the post applies backwards. Its easier for me to track that way. Fri,Sat,Sun as one posting period, Mon,Tues as another, Wed, Thurs as another.

That way, when i get on first thing monday morning, I can check the times easier, as I did today.

Well, regardless, you are right, so no XP penalty for you. I'll go fix my rules setup to be the way it was intended to be, and start reset the clock to begin on wed.

Good day sir.

Ok, its time for combat, so let me give you guys some basic info.

Combat starts with a roll of initiative. 1d20+ your Init modifier (find INIT on your char sheet)

Whoever rolls the highest goes first. Then the next highest, and so on. Once everyone has taken a turn, we start the next round. Monsters will get their initiative roll as well. In this case, I rolled an initiative of 10 for the rabid wolves. Anyone who gets higher than 10 will go before them. Anyone who gets lower will go after them. In the case of a tie, the higher modifier goes first.

Each round, you get a standard action and a move action.

In a move action, you can move a distance up to your speed in feet, draw a weapon, or some other very easy task. Also, if you have a Base Attack Bonus of +1 or better, you can draw your weapon, while you are moving.

In a standard action, you can attack, cast most spells, or you can take any move action (so you can take 2 moves instead of a move and a standard).

There are other actions, but we'll start with the basics.

When you want to make an attack, you roll 1d20 and add the total attack bonus for the weapon you are attacking with. You also roll damage. Most medium weapons do 1d6 or 1d8 damage. Add your STR modifier to your damage roll, if you are making a melee attack. If you roll high enough to hit, I'll apply the damage to the target of your attack.

If you have any questions, or want to do something different or special, please feel free to ask. Colvin, Lowthor, and I are pretty well versed in this stuff by now, so we can answer almost all of your questions.

Expect this first combat to go kind of slow while everyone gets their feet wet, and as you get used to it, things will move a bit faster.

Charging: The action mith took is called Charging. When charging, you can move up to double your speed and still attack, as long as you are moving in a straight, unobstructed line, and you are moving more than 10 ft. By doing this, you build up speed, and can do better on your attack. When charging, you get a +2 bonus to your attack roll. When charging, you must end your movement in the nearest possible square to your starting point that you could attack from. If something blocks this square, such as a tree, or one of your allies, you cannot charge.

Natural 20: When you roll 1d20, and the number on the dice shows 20, thats a Natural 20. Natural 20's are awesome, and everyone loves them. if you get a Natural 20 on an attack roll, that means you automatically hit. No matter what, you hit. If you get a Natural 20 on a Saving Throw, you automatically succeed on your save. Its called natural just to distinguish between rolling an 18 with a modifier of +2, for a total of 20, and rolling a real 20, no matter what the modifier is.

Critial Hits: Ashina almost scored a critical hit! Each weapon has a box for Criticals. Usually they say x2, x3, or 19-20/x2. Thats confusing, but its a really good thing. When you score a critical hit, you hit your enemy in a vital organ or a sensitive area. when a weapon says x2 or x3, you need to roll a Natural 20 to threaten a critical hit. If your weapon shows 19-20/x2, then you threaten a critical hit on a natural 20 or a natural 19. Once you are threatening a critical, you must confirm the critical. To do this, make another attack roll, at the same modifier. If this second attack is good enough to hit, you have scored a critical hit. When you score a critical hit, you do extra damage. If your weapon does 1d6+2 damage normally, and it shows a critical of x2, or 19-20/x2, then you do double damage. You can roll another 1d6+2 and add that to your original damage. if your weapon shows x3, then you do triple damage, and you can roll another 1d6+2 and then another 1d6+2, and add both of those to your original damage. Everyone loves getting Criticals.

Ranged Attacks into Melee: Say you are Lowthor, and you are shooting a bow at a wolf, that is in close range with your friend Colvin. There is a certain risk that you are going to hit your friend instead of your enemy! To prevent this, you must take extra care and caution to avoid hitting your ally. This is represented by a -4 penalty to your attack roll. Apply this penalty anytime you are attacking an enemy who is fighting with an ally.

Critical Misses: Like the Critical Hit, there is a Critical Miss! Anytime you roll a Natural 1, you automatically miss, no matter what. There is also a chance that something bad happens as a result of such a poorly aimed shot. Perhaps your weapon gets stuck, or slips out of your hand. If you roll a natural 1, roll another 1d20. If you roll an 8 or less, something bad is going to happen to you, of the DM's choice.

Threatened area: Your threatened area is the area which you can reach and attack with a melee weapon. Normally, this is the squares that touch your squares. Under normal circumstances, you can reach out to 5 ft with your weapon and attack anything 5 ft away from you; that is, in the square right next to you. Some special weapons, like halberds let you reach 10 ft away, but not 5 ft, so you can't attack something right next to you, but you can attack something 2 squares away from you. If you aren't holding a melee weapon, you don't threaten any squares.

Attack of Opportunity (AoO): Sometimes, during combat, you do something that drops your guard against an opponent who threatens you. The most common thing you can do to provoke an AoO is to leave a square that your enemy threatens. For example, if you are standing next to a wolf, who threatens the squares next to him, and you walk away, that provokes an AoO. The reason for this is that you are more focused on where you are going and where you are stepping than on your defense from attacks. Some other things that provoke AoOs are casting spells, shooting a ranged weapon, pulling a potion out of your backpack, or standing up from a prone position. Normally, you can only take 1 AoO each round. so if you stand up, and then get a potion out of your bag while in a threatened area, you will only get attacked once. Of course, if two wolves are standing there, they will each get an AoO, so you can get attacked once by each of them.

Flanking: If you surround your enemies, you get a bonus to your attack rolls. This is called Flanking. In order to get a +2 Flanking bonus, you and an ally must be on directly opposite sides of an opponent, and you must both threaten the opponent. For example, if there is a wolf with Serenity standing to the north of it, and Ashina standing to the south, and they both have melee weapons out, then they both get flanking bonuses! But if Serenity is to the northwest, or north east, they aren't exactly opposite, so there are no bonuses. Also, if Serenity had a melee weapon out, but Ashina only had a crossbow out, there are no flanking bonuses because Ashina can't threaten with a ranged weapon. Rogues especially love to flank with people, because they can then use their Sneak Attack special ability, which lets them deal more damage.

Colvin, you're not getting your damage rolls correct.

Your character's favored enemy is Animal, and whenever you attack one of the wolves (which are Animals), you've forgotten to add 2 to your damage rolls.

You apparently haven't hit yet, so it's not a big deal at the moment, but when you do, it will help to remember you do 2 extra damage to them.

Illogical, its not that I hate you.

I hate all of my players. Each and every one of them. They are a bane upon my existence, and it is my sworn duty as a DM to destroy them. To crush all hope out of their very souls.

Ask Lowthor. He will tell you the lengths to which I will go to annihilate my players. Its a difficult job, you know? I mean, theres a lot of work that goes into luring unsuspecting players into my trap. You have to go through all this time spent bonding with them, teaching them to play the game, and showing them the joys that come from destroying your enemies based on a lucky roll of the dice. I put a lot of effort into building my players up.

Now, you may ask yourself 'Self, why would SJ want to build the players up, if he said that he hates them?' Well, thats a good question. The answer is that I get so much more enjoyment out of the obliteration of a group of good qualified players, who are talented and able to handle difficult situations. Its more of a challenge for me to devise a gruesome and horrible death for a player who knows better than to traipse right into the lair of a dragon whilst whistling a jolly tune, and expecting a picnic to occur.

I consider it to be so much more meaningful when the Fighter in full armor and greatsword completely buffed up against all fire spells by his wizard companion goes in after the rogue has scouted the area and the cleric is ready to back him up with full healing spells. I tell you, there is no greater feeling than seeing the reactions as they go in expecting to face down that evil firey red dragon only to find out "OOPS! Its actually an acid flinging black dragon who spits acid and gosh-darnit, we forgot our acid-proof underwear. oh well! time to go roll new characters. You got us this time, SJ!" Hehe... I get a good chuckle just thinking about it.

For me to enjoy myself, I need my players to first grow out of their loathsome protoplasmic stages into the fully developed functional thinking human beings. Only then are they worthy of feeling the bitter sting of the prolonged suffering which I shall rend from the very bowels of the nine hells and allow to proliferate before their eyes, destroying the very beloved characters which they have toiled over for so long, and put so much work and love into.

Yes, nothing brings a smile to old SJ's face like seeing a player break down into tears as s/he empathically shares the searing torture, humiliation, debasement, and repugnant treatment which I have in store for him.

So cheer up! Turn that frown upside down. Now, you know I don't hate you. Doesn't that make you feel better?

I'm glad that we could share like this.

~Will back up everything that SJ said in that statement.~ Don't take it personal, Ill...he truly does hate everyone. Using a spin off of what Brad said in another thread about being ripped on by SJ, I'm going to provide him with the title of "Equal Opportunity Asshole." That way you won't feel singled out. BTW...lol@ "you got us this time SJ...."

LOL at all of that. Now I hope the groups I am in become so good that we actually provide you with that twisted pleasure of trying to obliterate us all haha. Time will tell...

Well Ahlias did go rushing into Saber before our characters could support him well enough. Just when they were all starting to bond a bit more too. *shrugs* Now we got Brass though heh. Anyway, Illogical...all we need is a sentence stating you are going to go with us or stay there and wait for us to come back from shopping o_o

~Wonders how we can go from awesome posting during the fight to....holy hell where'd everyone go?~

Shopping

Different DMs handle shopping different. Some don't RP at all, and just let you trade as you desire. Some RP every single encounter.

Here is how I do it.

In general, I expect most shopping to not be Role Played out. Once your character has reached a store, or marketplace, you can pretty much buy anything that is appropriate, without having to actually go post a whole novel about digging through bins of items, squeezing the grapefruit to make sure its ripe, or whatever you do when you shop. You can just make a post of the items you purchased, then add those to your character's inventory, and subtract the appropriate gold. Prices for most items can be found at the SRD site under Equipment.

You can sell an item for half-price.

If you feel like you want to Role Play out squeezing the grapefruit, go right ahead, and I'll react to describe the effects for you. This is important for haggling. Sometimes, this will let you get a better deal. Sometimes, you will get a worse deal. Haggling requires a Diplomacy check.

Also, sometimes I'll force you to Role Play out a scene. This is especially true if the merchant is a named NPC, instead of being a nameless person in the background. Named NPCs are usually important people, so I will force you to RP with the dwarf armorsmith if he might be important to the plot. Now, just to throw you off, I will sometimes give NPCs names who aren't important. For example, Edith is an important NPC, and she will undoubtedly play an important role to the party, but Jasper is just a waiter at the Inn. He's unlikely to play a major role. So don't always assume that because an NPC has a name that it is instantly an important person. Most of the time that will be true, but not always.

I found out last night at the hospital I'm pregnant because I was having stomach pains. I also found out the pregnancy may be ectopic. I may not be here for a few days if it turns out ectopic. SJ, post for me if we need to move along.

-Kim

Whoa...congrats. I hope everything turns out well and its not ectopic. Hope to see you on and enjoying RP with us =D Take care Kim.
