A Thought For Admin Team

DerangedPsycho

One step at a time. . .
I was thinking.. and back when I was avidly seeking roleplay, I wouldn't often stop at boards that offered nothing more than posts to leaf through. It was a pain to go through just to see what's what and all of that good stuff.

I was thinking, perhaps an introductory one page website with some basic information about Ayenee, What it is, etc.

I haven't done much surfing, but the last time I did, it seemed like many of the roleplay sites were in-active or active with very few. Does the younger generation not hold the same interest and intrique that we once did?

I suppose you could call me hypocritical in the sense that I'm full of suggestions to improve upon Ayenee, yet I don't roleplay much. I guess I'm just haunting the boards because I feel some sort of tie to Ayenee. It was a big part of my life for a long time. Influencial part if you can believe that.

Its a good idea, and pre-crash we were planning to make a frontpage for the site. It never got done though.

I'm going to move this to the Support Forum btw.

The Idea was being worked on but never was completed however if anyone feels like working on that idea, don't hesitate to make yourself known.

I would be happy to work on such a project. I've always enjoyed web design though my 'expertise' only spans html, css, and mediocre graphical design. Anything else and I wouldn't be much help. Maybe we could assemble a small team?

The only reason I bring it up is because today's generations seem to be primarily attracted to flashy, eye catching things. It tends to draw them in with a "Whoa cool" or something along those lines. Peaks their interest and motivates them to prod deeper and see what else is in store. I know there are some talented people in the Ayenee community. One really wouldn't have to devote an entirely large ammount of time to it. With a few graphic nuts we could have layout, title graphics and what have you while the code nuts are working on puting the pieces together while the other is working on something else. An hour or so a day and this thing could launch in a few days.

And it would be something we could all have our say in as far as what sort of content etc etc. Making it a group effort would really show to new comers what sort of community we are.

Deranged Lowthor Darkness......Sounds like an entertaining team. I would offer to help out with the writting and such, but Lowthor can tell you how scatter brained I am, but I'll take a look and see if I have any files that could be of use on the system here in a little bit.

When James (Thornbury) was involved amid the period of disarray at .org, he asked if he could potentially call on me for some help with front-page coding and facilities.

James may have passed out of the circle, but that offer still stands. If you need help with files, database, artwork, structure, or editing send me an IM on Yahoo! via another_virtuoso

Oh. And Mith, you know I co-manage FantasyRole: I’d love to work on anything with a view to collaboration between our two sites. Here’s a broad example: providing an Ayenee/Yahoo Live Play RSS feed—a feed for players to see when live, chat storylines are available to join. Posts and entries from either site are put into a central database, combining them and allowing all gamers to benefit from those live game sessions. The same could be done with news postings, etc.—mind, just a thought, but I’ve often thought communities in Yahoo terms were too isolated.

First off my original Draft of Making a character and Finding RP
Well, you've found one of Ayenee's many facets and are ready to join in the fun, but first you need to make a character. Making a character can be as simple or as complicated as you desire. When creating a character, no matter if it's an anteater to a vampire or even a mix of both, it is of absolute necessity that you enjoy playing the character. There are many ways to create a character, from character sheets, to pulling in a character out of a story you've heard. One thing to take into account when recreating a character is that you may encounter opposition as some may find your playing the character not up to their expectations. You can always make a character straight from your mind.

Ayenee is a freeform realm meaning that you can play anything from any mix of genres that you want.

Many people find the best way to make a character is to take one from a story they have seen or heard. Some prefer the Dungeons and Dragons method of rolling dice and setting up a character Sheet. Some people even find a picture they feel needs a story for the person in the picture and start a character from it. Remember that when you have decided how you want to make a character that there are no rules limiting your imagination of the character, but it does help others to be fair when deciding how powerful you are making your character.

Important aspects of a character when being created are name, personality, and description. Others may want you to have a history for your character, but that is not necessary to role play. An occupation and race of your character are often questions that you will be asked about if you did not make mention of them in your profile or your first post into a new room.

Now you have a character that is ready for their new life in the world of Ayenee. Of course, there certain type of places which will fit your characters set-up perfectly, and then there are those that will not. Let us assume your character is a wizard: Most technology role players will not even take stock in a wizard as it goes against that which they are accustomed too. Now with the same wizard you find a nice peaceful forest with a few other role players who are fantasy role players, a wizard will work here where as a "Star Trek" character would be most out of place. Then, we go to the taverns the taverns will more often than not accommodate any and all role play types with in their walls. Now you may encounter people who are biased towards Tech or Fantasy role playing.

There are other forms of role play, other than just finding a room and waiting, or causing a random interaction. What I am referring to is called scripted role playing, where, much like in D&D, there is a Game master (One who decides what you will encounter). Another form of Role play that you will be able find is called board role playing, in board role playing you post upon a message board hoping to create an interaction between yourself and those who use the board much like what you do in chat.

In conclusion things you should want to remember are simply these, Role playing is meant to be fun not a hassle or pain, Your character is your character no one has the right to tell you how to play them or force you to make them do anything. What ever kind of Rp you take on is up to you, but please ensure you enjoy it.

As to your offer Silverlord I do not know what to say of yet other than the offer is greatly appreciated. Concerning the Rss Feed, I am not sure how we would implement that of yet as live chat situations here are more often found at random times in Yahoo Conferences than our chat system. While there are some who take advantage of the chat system we have currently in place that may be changing as a system on the whole. Concerning the Yahoo Isolation I agree that often times the groups that grew out of Yahoo, were indeed too broken apart, that can be seen quite easily by looking at Ayenee.org & Ayenee.com, let alone Tenaria, Jamacus Prime, and a few others that remain outside of my memory. I shall try to get in contact with you in a little while, probably during the weekend as then my life is not as chaotic as it is during the week.

Though I realize it isn't my decision, I do like to pretend that my opinion matters, from time to time. So, in the spirit of my own delusions of grandeur, that sounds very intriguing. When it comes to code I'm about as useless as Vin Diesel's hairbrush. But, again, in the spirit of my own delusions, I like to think I know something about graphics. Count me in.

EDIT:MITH YOU JERK! How dare you post while I'm posting!? Actually I just failed to see that there was a second page available. DON'T JUDGE ME!

As for the draft you offered, I don't know if an instructional sheet is the thing to use if we're trying to attract more players. Let's face it, most of us started off playing in our teens, and we're getting older. Not a lot of new players are coming about. I think that's what was first intended.

We may be better off just telling a little about our site, and mentioning that there is plenty of help available to make characters, learn just HOW to role play and anything else they may need help with, be it game related or otherwise.

I dunno. It's a toss up really. Players would ( and have in the past ) really benefit from articles or guides that help them create characters and what not. Yet, something too overwhelming might scare away people as well. They would see all of this complicated reading and stuff, and say 'forget it'

Anyway, here is a sample of a work in progress: http://noobsarchives.tripod.com/

If anyone would like to hook up with me and start brainstorming, I can be contacted via e-mail or YIM!. E-mail would probably be the better route as I don't get on messenger very often.
