The Slump and the Question

Over the last few weeks since the site crashes and glitches , and other little problems that have beset us the site has slowed down monumentally. I realize that many of our members who are still in college or high school or even middle school will be going back to the books at this time and getting back to being used to a school schedule. Others lives have picked up to a whirlwind pace. These seem normal to me, but I am sure the site screw ups probably scared some members into thinking we were a dead site.

Sj came to me yesterday, worried about the status of NewAyenee.org, and asked me if it is time to close down NewAyenee.org for good and just put a redirect to Ayenee.com in our place. So I decided I would ask you all, what is your view on the lack of speed of the forums and the lack of active members should we close up shop ? I am of the opinion that closing down the site as long as we have one active member aside from staff that the place is worth saving. Perhaps that's extremely idealistic, but Today we have hit our one year mark of being back on our feet at this site. I had thought of trying to set up something as a celebratory concept, but I was unable to come up with such.

So upon our first anniversary I am asking you all to decide if we should try to make a go for another year or just pack it in and be done with it.

Finally coming back on after a hellish week at work and noticing the huge slump myself. I say keep it going. We have been through slumps before, some not as bad as others but the pace picks up again. For how long we don't know, however long the pace keeps going, but I say this site is still worth keeping.

As I am guilty of my own share of the slowdown, I can honestly say that I would hate to see this site fall by the wayside, as well. True, this may have something to do with the fact that I was one of those who helped establish this site, as many of us were, but still, Ayenee has become a large part of many of our lives. While .com may carry the same name, it is not, in my view, the same community. You have but to look at the interaction of the players here and compare it to the ones there to recognize a difference. Whether this difference is better or worse is a matter of opinion. But this site and the members of it, yes, even you, SJ, have become home and family to my cravings for a fantastic environment outside my dim reality.

I remember the "good old days" and I am thrilled to know that a large percentage of those I interact with here share the same dated view of what Ayenee once was. The same cannot be said for our sister site. Yes, there are a few oldbies there. And yes, I even play over there from time to time, but the fact remains that this community, for whatever reason, is one with whom I am proud to associate the name of Ayenee. No, I do not claim to have ownership over anything involved with Ayenee aside from my own few characters, so perhaps the previous analogy is invalid. Nevertheless, this site is home, and to lose it would be a blow I do not want to witness.

Things are slow, but there are still games going on, and I'm with Mith in that as long as there are people playing we should stay open.

I missed this post...My slump is r/l things, Mith you know the details so enough said...
I say keep it open...People may wander but they always return home eventually!!

This place has been like a sanctuary in which I can interact with friends and roleplay with a vibrant group of roleplayers. Sure enough you can get roleplayers over at .Com, but the calibre of roleplayers here has long appealled to me and still does.

Keep the site. Period.

WTF.

I find this entire question to be pointless.

If any portion of our community is still finding the site entertaining or uses it, then it should remain up. If we don't get any posts in a month or so, then by all means start up the talks about dismantling.

But seriously. WTF.

Has anyone considered making a Facebook group? It might help people find this place or renew interest. I know "Ayenee" was one of the first searches I made when I made my Facebook account.

{gently pets Anna on the head and hands her one of Madi's cookies} Hang in there with that, once you get more posts in it will change. You could ask Mith to change it for you to something you like.

I was not even aware of this question until now. Was not even aware there were even talks about it. I agree with Ceros completely. This question was utterly pointless and I do not believe a forum should be put down simply because there is a slump. There are many people that RP here and use this place as an environment for many things. They use it to pass time while they are at work (I do that), talk with people, express ideas...

Anyway, keep the site up. It will be worth it.

Yeah! don't close it, we don't want to have to leave again...

I mean, goodness, we keep your daily post count at reasonable numbers by ourselves, add to it the few other rps that are gong and you can relax. I mean take a look at my posts per day and you will see what I mean.

You already know what I'm going to say... You close it down Mith, and I'll make good on those promises of coming to the states, and feeding you into a Pizza oven.

Even though people like me are probably largely to blame for these slumps (Prolonged absences, followed by periods of frenzied activity).

Candidly, I will admit that NewAyenee.Org is not even close to the level of activity it saw as Ayenee.Org, Ayenee. Is, or the original Kellindil site on Angelfire.

However, I think Yahoo has done a fine enough job of killing all of the RP communities that exist entirely within chat. If this site is dismantled, that's it.

Game over.

Would you guys really want to pitch what's left of your members onto the curb? I mean, between Paltalk, Second Life, Google Talk, and the other possibilities I've explored in the last few years, the fact that I keep poking my nose back here should be hint enough that there is still a place for us to go, right?

Put my vote (such as it may be worth today) down as "No, absolutely not."
