Return of the Magic Question

Idea Man
Oh yes folks, its back. I know you've all missed my random discussion starting questions.

Anyway here we go:

What is a Dragon's breath? Is it magic, is it chemicals, is it something else entirely?

Well that depends on the source material we use for the discussion. For instance in Tolkiens world Dragons were made through the magic of a malevolent being, and their breath was magic. In European Myths Dragons were cunning evil creatures who breathed fire and were supposedly magical in origin, yet a definition of what their breath was never claimed. Then we have the Hollywood take on a dragons Breath, which seems to follow the idea that its a similar system of a napalm spray and a spark. Similarly Discoverys' Dragon show where they theorized a real dragon and made a way for it to exist would be a simple chemistry system.

There's almost as many definitions of Dragon Breath as there are authors writing about them. Pratchett's Draco Vulgaris (Swamp Dragons) breath fire through a chemical reaction, but the Drcao Nobilis being magical in origin breath magical fire, hot enough to vapourise a human in seconds.

Warhammer (Games Workshop) define the breath of their dragons as being varied. They have a magical flame which is breathed by your standard dragon, lethal noxious fumes breathed by Undead dragons, freezing blasts breathed by ice dragons... and i'm sure there's more that i've missed. Most of them, despite the dragons needing a magic-rich atmosphere to evolve in, are not magical attacks, but merely very powerful physical attacks.

So i think what i'm saying is: A Dragons breath is whatever the hell you want it to be!

First of all, according to books written by margaret weis and tracy hickman involving their dragons. I see it as an ability they were born with.
Also, according to dragonology's book, dragon's breath weapon develops with age.

Well then to answer the re-phrase, I prefer the type that is magical in how, but the end result just extreamly hot flame with out magical effect.

Personally I've always favoured the biology approach above the magic one. Some dragons are mages, but not all and I like the idea of some dragons being entirely lacking in magic yet still able to breath fire and fly.

From what I understand, and trying to read different philosophies of dragons, me personally believe that it is some sort of acid function within the belly of the dragon. To me the acids in the belly of the dragon react differently towards what type of dragon hence why Red Throws fire, Blue throws lightning, Green throws just Poison gas. I would go theory here, but then that just make me seem stupid. So I go with, that, depending on the skin of the dragon, the gas and acid within the stomach creates different reactions towards different dragons and poof something happens when they hock a loogie, or in a sense...throw up.

That's a hard question to answer directly Hoshi. The first answer would be in Ayenee dragons breath may be magical in origin and effect, or it can be elemental as in the same level of magic as comes from a bic lighter. It depends on the player whose character is a dragon, or the player who puts the npc dragon into the game. As for the second question are dragons in Ayenee created, short answer yes, long answer "depends" For instance if you have a mage, or a mad scientist they could either create a dragon ( think fire breathing Frankenstein) or they could be resurrect a dragon from the dead with no will of it's own. On the other hand the dragon could be born to a mommy dragon and daddy dragon who loved each other very much. Its all dependent upon the player involved.

Personally, I think it'd be good that Dragons likely get assigned one type of breath based on their species (Fire Dragons get fire), but can use magic to change/gain additional breaths (fire dragons might have fire breath that's more chemical/sciency, but they could use magic to supplement their abilities via ice breath or fire spells to use in conjunction). Might be one way to do it?

What breath would jade or midnight dragons have, Legix?

All good stuff and I think what I'm going to do is make up several types of dragons from ones that are made to ones like the midnight dragon that are born of proud mommy and daddy dwagons.

Shine breath, dood. Jade might have gas, though, based on earthen dragons normally. Midnight would probably be either light magic or dark magic, IDK.
