Old Friends and Reconnections

Hi friends! I'm a long-time player from the olden days of yore, and am looking to reunite with the wonderful writers I met so long ago. You might recognize my name from RPG, the custom roleplaying platform I started in 2005 that is dedicated to giving the entire roleplaying community a permanent place to host their content.

Recently, a few folks showed up interested in restoring the old plots from Ayenee, so we've supported them in integrating with the Multiverse, our open-world sandbox for text-based roleplay (and combat, of course). I'd like to start a conversation around building some kind of integration with ayenee.org, hopefully supporting cross-posting and ensuring that nothing like what Yahoo did to our community ever happens again.

We're in the process of launching not-so-secret RPG Chat, and I'd like to extend the offer to add an API for ayenee.org to utilize for integration, if not enabling logins directly from the accounts here. Either way, excited to see this community thrive, and eager to help support with our small group of developers!

I like the idea but I'm also a little confused about how this would work (as far as what activity is cross-posted and such). The good news is that this forum software, Xenforo 2, has an API out of the box and ready to use. The bad news is I've never used it so I'm not that familiar with how to use is. I think very highly of Roleplay Gateway.

What functions would the API need to have enabled (e.g. making posts, etc?)

I'm just now catching up after falling behind schedule — sorry for the delay. :)

As for integration, I'd like to at least create a Universe on RPG that would 2-way sync between us for at least one persistent world, but ideally we could work together towards sharing all worlds, creating a network of sorts, rather than disparate sites (though both sites still offer the same experience).

From what I've done in the past, this includes:

1. Allowing some sort of registration on both sites (RPG users also end up with a login on Ayenee, and vice versa)
2. Allowing the creation of content on both sites (RPG posts create Ayenee posts, and vice versa)
3. Some linkage between Character Sheets on RPG and ??? on Ayenee

My experience suggests that it's best we start with a single "universe", and test from there. Hard to say what's the best target, but I'd offer up the Multiverse as the test candidate from our side. Perhaps you could limit the API key to posting only in a specific forum on your side?

As for account linkages, we could alternatively do some kind of OAuth-style "cross login" that authenticates an account from one site to the other, but I have some other thoughts in this arena that I'm happy to elaborate on in a more private arena.

Maybe a good start would be to give you early access to RPG Chat and we can start there?
