Exodyus

Exodyus.Unlimited
I didn't know this even existed since the death of .Com and the over-growth of Valucre from Aoyn.

I'm new to the boards here. Sup.

What would you like to know about me?

Well, welcome to Ayenee.Org..You can tell us as much of yourself as you'd like(That would be the Peanut Gallery section) and RP, or just RP... What ever your comfortable with :)

First off, this captcha-per post thing is ridiculous. I'm not one to be very mean, but if they passed the captcha in the registration and the security details you set in place for email validation, then you shouldn't need to do this.

Another thing and this isn't to mean offense, but it's not like this place is booming that one person (mod or admin) couldn't take care of it. I had to wait a day for a post to be acknowledged and accepted -- if I was going to RP here, I don't know if I would have even bothered.

</irritation>

I've been around for more years than I can count. On the cusp of the original birth of Ayenee in the lovely Applet browser known as iChat beta. A beautiful thing. Pffthahah...

Been doing this forum deal for years on end now and truthfully, was looking to see if the admins would like to discuss an affiliation, but now that I'm here -- the place is as hollow as most of the other Ayenee knock-offs. :/

My brief history for RP:
-- I was in Azeranoth, DarkQuest, OverMages, DUHR_Gods, and was known for killing a ton of Nightbreed. Bwuhaha. That was the old days though, sadly...
-- Held 2 positions on the D10 listing for HtH and PC, for a bit.
-- Created the Vel'haru, Raven's Brand, & Exodyus (now it's own site).
-- Created the Vicer plot on .Com and took 6 medals in that quarter.
-- Created (2004) and now re-created the Obsequious Zenith, a site exclusive.

Ohm nom. So, that's me. In a nut-shell.
What's current with the site?

We have met a few times lol I played a few Nightbreed sn's and a few night breed killer sn's.

Your only suppose to have to be approved for the first time posting, not every time you post...I'll have to ask Chaos if I clicked something wrong or it it is a glitch

Welcome to .org and hope that you enjoy your stay with us. The captcha thing though has been necessary even for regular postings. It's been a security option for new members till they make a certain amount of posts before the captcha request is not needed. We've had previous problems with spammers and bots passing the first captcha and then trying to bot posts here. The extra security precaution had to be taken to keep ad-bots and spammers from making their posts.

Lol? I've been an admin for years and years on forums and I know first-hand that it's not as bad as you say, unless you have your anti-spam stuff all jacked up. I changed one thing on my board, just one -- and we haven't had any annoying spammers in three months. Unless someone REALLY wants to spam our board, they'll actually go through the wasted registry process to just be banned by IP afterward. Gotta love One-Click.

Anyways.

What happened that this place kapoofed? 13 active users? And they don't actually look that active.

Well here it did happen before our local techie found a way to stop it. It was after a couple years here before we suddenly got a bunch of spammers and bots that plagued the crap out of us for a bit before our techie plugged the holes. We don't have any spam anymore, and that is because of the blocks that our techie Chaos put in place. You may have been an admin for a few years on your site, but you were probally using a different programing system then what we are using here. My suggestion, until you know all the actual facts, best not jump on assumptions just because of past experience for you may be dealing with something that is different.

On the other note about the inactive look of this place, well a lot of us here are very involved in real-life for the time being.

In it's prime (circa 1999-2002), Ayenee hosted three age categories of role players:

You had your mid-20s and plus crowd, your mid-to-late teens crowd, and your tweenies and younger teens crowd. Most of the first two groups now have jobs, mortagages, children, or 900 cats to take care of. The latter group has almost fully migrated to MMOs and were only here for the "lulz" to begin with.

So what you see before you is a repository of the writings of those that came before and, from time to time, are still able to scratch a spare minute here and there to type up an RP post if they have others to RP with.

And then you have the older crowd, like my wife Christina and I... and a few others... that just enjoyed writing and the sense of community good ol' Ayenee.org provided. Most of my memories from here are good ones. Even the bad ones are good now... as they make me laugh at myself and the people I butted heads with.

I still get the urge to write at times, but I definitely don't have the motivation to dedicate myself to RPing anymore. Ah well... pleasant memories they remain.

FYI, CAPTCHA and reCAPTCHA are constantly being beaten by spam bots, and by circumvention means.

They were primarily set up on account creation to be one method of stopping those registrations, which works in spurts as Google refines reCAPTCHA to beat the bots and the spammers refine their tools to beat reCAPTCHA. I wasn't aware that there is a prompt on posting, as the moderating of posts should be it.

Another thing and this isn't to mean offense, but it's not like this place is booming that one person (mod or admin) couldn't take care of it. I had to wait a day for a post to be acknowledged and accepted -- if I was going to RP here, I don't know if I would have even bothered.
It's not booming of actual real users. But for spam registrations:

Today, as of 6:30PM Central: 75 blocked registrations
Yesterday, March 14th: 115 blocked registrations

And that's not including any attempted registrations from blacklisted domains, which is currently almost to 800 domains. And all of those registration attempts beat reCAPTCHA.

So, you tell me if all of those registrations were allowed and attempted to post on random threads if you'd like to take care of it day in and day out, especially when it's not your full time job and, quite frankly, especially recently, I don't manage to check here each and every day.

If there is a better way and you're willing to share, then that's fine, share. But I don't see anything in your post like that, so until then, we'll keep going along like this.

You had [...] your tweenies and younger teens crowd. The [younger teens] group has almost fully migrated to MMOs and were only here for the "lulz" to begin with.
Which is the crowd I actually fall into, though I wouldn't mind trying to get back into something here (most definitely something in the d20 vein), I'm having trouble finding the time to actually dive in (due to other interests and work).

Response to Jai - Don't forget those few of us that are literally as old as Ayenee's dirt, so far as when we started Rp'ing.(Scarey old lol)

Thank you every one else for piping up...You proved that It may look dead in here, but looks are deceiving!

I told you some one else could explain the "Why's" if it all Exodyus ?

:D @ Chaos

This place like many role-play communities specifically based on Ayenee has a failing which is the lack of new blood, as I am sure you have encountered on your exodyus. org site which you registered your email as. Which is Ayenee no longer existing in a free market system like Yahoo, MSN, AOL,and even Cheeta Chat's chat causes a lack of new blood. Which Nemo/Rob could tell you from .Com, however Jai, and AEP also have the general point that life happened and free time dwindled for most of us. We keep the hearth fire burning and offer a little spurt of Rp when we can when life's not killing us all. Other than that though generally most people need motivation for an Rp which can be a well written beginning, or even just a flashy word to grab their attention. None the less lets more this long winded discussion over to the Peanut Gallery shall we as it would be poor manners to have a full discussion in the foyer as it were.
