A question asked by Raven got me thinking about how I always attempted to apply a level of order to my roleplays was through map making. For instance, I mapped out Mith's home, his tavern, a whole fantasy world I wanted to develop as a game or story line that's free floating in my brain and I thought why not offer my services to those that might want something built for their own stories.

Now that the wiki is up and running, maybe we can use these images on some of the wiki articles as illustrations.

Well I might use the maps of Mith's home, and my tavern and I might have the blackbird taverns layouts, the Sae Nae Map however no that baby will remain as more a testament to how bored I can get and if I ever get around to writing my books I have a use for it. Although to be fair some of Mith's home needs a reworking. I was a little over grandiose with the layout. I still have to see what I remember about Tesla ( Large metropolis) in the southwest from ACC that operated as a corporate hub city and one of the locations of an Omega Operations base.

I use Inkarnate for mapping, it is free and though it use to have more tools, it can get me to a place where I can finish in photoshop if need be.

I never imagined taverns the way there were imagined by the owners apparently. Oh and I remember your tavern now, I interviewed for a job there once. I think it was on my thief character, back when I was stealing the money from every tavern I came across. It funded his daughters schooling in magic and bought them a nice little mansion and title. See I would have never imagined a parking lot for a tavern, a bar maybe, but tavern sounds rustic enough to be missing a parking lot. I also realized that taverns had to be near towns, because a tavern that was a week away from any town, would eventually either become a town, or be avoided like the plague due to it just happening to be in the middle of nowhere.

This dawned on me when I came across a bbq joint down here in Arkansas, it was across the street from a cemetery, it was also a tow service and mechanic, was in the middle of nowhere, and it had at least a mile of disabled, rusty, broken down vehicles behind it, and there was also a swamp down the road. I was like yeah, going to avoid it. It was right off the highway, but the only thing aside from a porn video store there. Could have been the best bbq in the world, but I value myself.

The parking lot was a bit of a compromise honestly. When your tavern is surrounded by medium to dense forest and someone literally drives up to your tavern in their brand new 2000 mustang and is posting paragraph upon paragraph drooling over their car, you can start the OOC fight about how they just drove through about thirty miles of wild forest and nothing of their plastic box survived, or you accepted the concept of a parking lot of loose gravel they proposed. Then after making that an established concept someone doing burnouts and shattering windows with gravel forces you to rethink the gravel, and RP out the pouring of concrete. Then you have weeds and cracks and you scream to the heavens " I am a bloody wizard by the gods I will use a permanent stasis spell upon the concrete so it will never crack, stain or sprout weeds" and So it was. The inn and parking lot aspect of my tavern grew out of compromises and forced additions, but now I cannot think of my tavern without them. I think however in general form of our world your right taverns either end up as integral as a church for a budding community or die due to isolation. In Ayenee, on the other hand, we have forest wandering knights, Space pirates, Modern assassins, and various other forms of life. A Parking lot was merely a means to be inclusive and to stop me from pointing out how they just lost their cars due to trees.

*lands his spaceship in the parking lot, crushing all the vehicles* "Hmm my bad I didn't see a landing pad. *hit the thrusters shattering the windows and casting aside any object not nailed down. "I guess I'll just have to piss at the next stop" *Flies off*

That thankfully never happened, pretty sure Mith would be a wee bit pissed about that. Although mounted ion cannons sound like a good idea just have to make them look like they fit in...

The power of vagueness is a power I have learned to master, and I'm still getting better at it. For this reason, I am mildly against maps.

Any visual support that can be given to role play, though, I am all for it. Pictures are nice to look at and can send one's imagination in the right direction.

I actually really like how visuals, particularly maps, can get roleplayers on the same page. It's jarring when you realize you and someone else have completely different views of your setting and that your posts make no sense...for example if your character 'went to a dark corner' and then you find out the tavern is circular, has glass exteriors windows, and it's a sunny day.

I like when I'm in a tavern, and people are lurking in the rafters.

I use to lurk in the rafters on my thief Falcon Ravenheart, I stole so much from the taverns and people in them. The character retired and bought vineyard, put his daughter through mage school. Ah those day were so much fun, I usually exclaimed in my house, "Why is no one stopping me!"

The Rafters I remember hanging out in them in the vampire tavern, but as you'll note the maps don't show them, but doesn't specifically say they aren't there either....

About what percentage of Ayenee dwellers are normal humans, would you say?

Maybe 5%

I think most normal humans died within the first few minutes of pixelated imaginary life.

"I'm a normal human!" somewhere from the corner of the tavern
"Kamehameha!"
Normal human disintegrates.
"Thanks vegeta I had an itch"

I think Eseer's right when it comes to pcs, npcs I would say humans are probably closer to 55% otherwise the vampires are going to have a bad time mmmkay...

Well what normal human would exist in a land of constant threats. In real life we have at least mastered the environment enough to survive. In Ayenee where people are killed left and right for no reason, where almost everything is adapted for hunting prey, where people wield god like powers, where entire kingdoms were laid waste for mere amusement. I would imagine the amount of normal humans would have jumped ship for some place safer, or are long since dead and buried. With the amount of bloodshed I saw in the chat days combined with what little existed in the forum days, I would say the decline in people's psychotic nature is due to a lack of easy prey more than a simple hormonal shift with age. When I think of the streets of Ayenee today, I see Flint Michigan.
