Mission Twelve: Naze Sorairo

Wyatt released his grip as the man in larger armour righted himself, "Yeah no, don't mention it..." he spoke dismissively, questioning why his reaction was to catch the man bridal style of all the ways he could've...

He was quickly snapped back to the situation at hand by the sudden string of explosions that filled the heavens, he leant back and pulled until he looked up to face the not-quite-surface of the not-quite-planet. He shoved his thrusters into overdrive and shot down like a missile toward a rebel base, away from the danger-zone that was the sky right now. The marksman adjusted his trajectory and orientation to the ground so that he would come to stop at roughly the same spot as Alastair, the higher ranking guy who seemed to have some strange thing for chains...

"So, lovely weather for a day at the beach isn't it" he let out almost jokingly (or as close to that as Wyatt could achieve) as a piece of chain-link-shaped-shrapnel fell past him, the cacophonous explosions above not phasing him in the least.

Sacre was not amused when the stupid butterbar flew obliviously into what was obviously a live fire zone. "You heard the man." She said to Walter. She bit her tounge at her desire to lash out verbally as he was an officer. She nodded to Walter to indeed stop firing. At least it wasn't all loss, with his arrival, she didn't have to be in charge of the small group of soldiers. She was probably going to have a dressing down about this, it really wasn't fair, but life in the army was never fair. She just hoped that the rounds they had managed to get off did something that would be helpful as at the moment, they seemed to be making no progress and were running out of time.

Eden quickly called out, "Team, this is your Shosa speaking. Hold fire and watch the skies for my exit! Marking my location on your HUD! If it is safe, follow me out."

Eden looked to Miles, then Shasse, "We're going up. Shasse, I think you're going to be able to move very soon, but I'm not releasing controls until then. You're going to be safe on the Kaiyō soon! Miles, remember to let go when I say let go!" She lifted herself up towards the sky and began racing up to what she hoped was its barrier, but it didn't come. "Faster!" she called and slaved Miles' Mindy to her own, matching her ascending speed. It was like moving from the bottom of a ball pit as a child without reaching the top, where light would peek through. The sky did not buckle and Eden growled out, "Come on..."

Then, her helmet made contact and in the first instant she could hear the sensors in her Mindy going haywire, she yelled for Miles to let go and unslaved his power armor to hers, forcing him downwards, "Drop!!"

The aether that made up the sphere ate up her helmet and then the rest of her Mindy as she passed through it. Shasse was getting the same treatment as the aether sphere took apart her Zesuaium Mindy steadily as the now-nude pair ascended out of the aether sphere innards and into the planet-like structure's interior.

Soranomizu Interior

Their bodies were devoid of the suits as they came out of the sphere, but lacked any residual bodily harm from the aether. They were far enough away from the spurting aether plumes of the sphere, but not close to the Strong's position on the platform at all. The atmosphere inside of the planet-like structure was breathable and there was no gravity, so they stayed suspended for a moment before Eden spoke.

"We've been spotted," she said in a mental transmission to Kaiyō bridge and Shasse while the patrol ships moved to intercept the two. To the Second Officer, she said, "Hold position. Regroup and wait for my command." To the Kaiyō, she spoke again, "Kaiyō actual?"

Hoshi pushed so hard off of her arm rests that she flew into the air as visual scans from the Kaiyō's hull showed Eden and Shasse out in the open near the aether sphere.

"Strong-hei, assist! Gravity-hei, get them, now! Chlorate..." Hoshi said, pausing. "You can do this. Take out the patrol before they can do the same to our girls." She looked to the console in front of her and comm'd in to engineering, "Are our aether generators online?" Then, to the bridge once more, she said, "Thesilis-heisho, keep me updated on Eden and Shasse's condition as well as the rest of the team." She slowly floated to sit back down, but it looked as if she was still a few inches off of her chair.

As the pair ascended, Sacre kept a close eye over her medical data-link to the two suits. She forwarded the information to Alastair and the rest of the officers through their private link. She held her breath, hoping that it would work and they could leave this strange place. However, the suits began to degrade from the Aether. The suits went quickly from green, to yellow, to red, then black with the message. "Suit Destroyed." No one could survive inside a blast of Aether like that. There would be time to morn later. Far as she could tell, the two of them had died trying to escape and the rest of them might soon follow.

"Yare yare daze, it's not that hard to see grenades coming...!" He quit firing up into the sky, at the behest of Sacre-hei's orders rather than Alastair. "It's not like I was purposely shredding him apart."

Walter Hyde checked how much ammo he had left; there were only 295 grenades in each belt. He spent a lot of grenades, and there's also that caveat with the air compressor. Chances are, the compressor is probably low on air, and he'll be down for just his wrist gun and his sword.

"Note to self, just remember to fire at an interval-" Walter turned his towards the HUD; people have gone dark. Eden and... Someone else named Shasse.

And he... Well, he felt some pain in his heart, but he's holding out for the chance that Eden and the others have made it out safely. Either that, or they've died, but death is hardly possible unless their signal got jammed. Which is, again, improbable. Definitely not likely.

Walter looked towards the rest of the group, more or less drifting his attention to Arete.

William turned his attention skyward as Eden's and Shasse's mindys flew towards the aether sphere. His breath caught in his throat as he saw their signal go from green to red then to black. "No..." He said inside his suit. He felt his heart drop into his stomach and his face blanched. "No... there's no way..." He mumbled, his mind refusing to believe what his system was trying to tell him.

He then turned to the others. "Come on! We were able to get in here, we can get back out. We have to go after them!" William said, barely keeping himself in check but managing it. "Isn't there someway to predict our entry points like we did when we entered?" He asked. As he did, he slowly began rising higher, trying to scan the sphere for any sign of an exit.

"Well..." Wyatt let out, his gaze was pointed skyward to where two people had said 'If it is safe, follow me out', since then they had disappeared into the sky, the sky that was surrounded by exceedingly dangerous Aether energy, and were now silent. It wasn't exactly looking great...

"Let's find out if they died or not first, no point in going after them just to die" the marksman said bluntly before rocketing until he was close to the 'atmosphere' of the 'planet', yet not so close that he'd fry like he assumed the other two had.

"This is Alder-Hei, if you are alive then please respond, over" Was what his telepathic message read out, if they didn't answer soon then in his mind they were most likely dead, and that means this strange mission was going to become a shitty mission.

Miles nodded in his armour even though like Shasse he was now locked from moving his own armour, the method was a little unorthodox but he wasn't about complain with his XO who was starting to seem a little crazy in her ideas. "H-Hai Shosa, but uhh the ceiling is coming in hot there..." He wavered nervously as they rapidly approached the ceiling. The moment his helmet filled with the scream of "Drop!" the minkan felt the control previously dragging him upwards reverse and shove him downwards, barely giving him time to release his grip on his friend before she flew upwards into, nothing...

Shasse didn't struggle as she was carried along by her old friend, her suit was still locked and she needed to focus for whatever was coming next, talking to Miles privately she said.
"I'll see you again right?"
"Of course, Eden knows what she's doing, I'll see you on the other side ok"
Shasse closed her eyes and made a slight smile before time slowed down for her and the next thing she new she was sliding through the aether ceiling as the suit dissolved around her she screamed before she was cut off from the world inside the sphere and drifting in the open air alongside Eden, unclothed but alive.

As soon as the cool air hit her skin the blue neko's eyes shot open and her senses were sent into overdrive by the adrenaline rush in her system, quickly acting she floated next to her XO and tried to hide as best she could when Eden pointed out the patrol ships. Seeing that the ship had already spotted them the neko did the only thing she could think of and put herself between her XO and the ship, "Stay behind me Shosa, I'll do what I can to protect you."

Inside the sphere Miles looked up in time to see his friend and officer seemingly explode as her scream was cut off in his ear suddenly, her suit dematerializing and combusting before his eyes. The minkan couldn't bring himself to move, his body went rigid as though his armour was still locked and he began to fall back to earth. Miles' mind only kicked into gear moments before impact and he engaged his CFS with enough time to slow to a survivable impact speed before smashing into the floor beside Sacre and lying still.

Arete looked upwards to the 'sky' with confusion. Unlike much of the Kaiyo II's crew, the angel lacked the ability to receive telepathic messages. And yet... It was weird. Something felt off. "What should we do?" Her voice crackled over the speakers of the Mindies softly. "If we... If we can't contact Eden-Shosa? YSS Kaiyo Two, can you hear us down here still?"

"Affirmative, I'll inform the others, Alder out" Wyatt sent back before tuning his comms into the crew's main channel to pass on the good news.

"Attention Kaiyo crew and ground forces, I have confirmed the status of Eden-Shosa and Emiko-Hei, they are alive, following after them, over and out" Wyatt was already backing away from roughly where he had seen the two disappear through while he informed the others of his actions. The marksman closed his eyes and took a deep breath in while he visualized his trajectory, he slowly exhaled and opened his eyes again, with any luck he'd come out next to them instead of crashing into them but he had no idea whether they had moved or just stayed still, so there was a lot of guesswork involved.

Wyatt filled his lungs again and fired his thrusters up as far as they could go, he didn't imagine there would be some nice little path for him to follow this time so he pushed all the power from the fusion generator in his back into his shields while the capacitor he had on each thigh was dumping power into his thrusters, he was pretty sure his MINDY wasn't legally allowed to go as fast as he was pushing it but he doubted the Aether sphere cared as much for legalities as it did about chewing up his beloved suit of armour.

Thanks to the speed he was going, his suit was sustaining less damage per foot he travelled than the other two, and amongst all the other red warnings, one was about to throw all that progress in the trash like some unwanted baby. The first capacitor to blow was the one on his left thigh, sending him spinning as his suit became less and less, then the right capacitor saw its brother and thought it'd do the same, sending him spinning in the other direction as he felt his skin begin to burn.

Suddenly he slammed out the other side, of the Aether sphere, his suit was barely more than a few scraps that were falling off him and he thanked his lucky stars that the Fusion rector had just been destroyed rather than going off like its smaller cousins, that would've been very, very bad.
Wyatt slammed into a wall and finally stopped, the remaining bits of clothing and armour fell off him, shredding his last pieces of dignity as he got his bearings, not yet realizing he was stark naked.

He let out a small groan before speaking "aaaahhhh, that hurt, what kind of condition are you two i-" he paused as his vision cleared and he saw the two Nekovalkyrja there, as naked as the day they were pulled from a tube.

"Oh I see, any injuries?" he asked the two neko, trying to be somewhat polite by keeping his eyes at head-height, his own body was looking a little crispy from all the explosions knocking him off course and a light trail of steam floated off his person.

Sacre checked Miles' lifesigns, he looked like he was ok. Sacre's tail flicked, hitting Miles in the side. "I don't think we have time to bleed." She said to him on a private channel.

After listening to Wyatt, Sacre felt glad that it wasn't a complete suicide run. She mentally made some estimates. She switched to a private channel with Alastair "If we are naked on the other side, there are some of us who can't fly. I would suggest we form a sphere formation and leave together. This will give us the best chance of getting through with our suits intact as our shields only have to protect one side. Arete can manipulate gravity, so we might be able to use that to help those of us who can't fly along." She suggested to the officer.

"Should we be heading out? I mean, I don't want to spend longer than we need to down here but we haven't really... Done anything? Down here, I mean." The little voice of Arete rang through the team's speakers cautiously; she didn't seem all too keen about just... Seemingly abandoning this strange object.

Aether Sphere Interior

This may be due to bias for Arete, his bias for simple plans, or maybe he just didn't hear it right, but it did seem really weird to abandon their position just because of one Santo-Hei. "I'm going to have to side with Arete on this one, Sacre-hei. We still don't know what this threat is, or where that stolen technology is being stashed. We have run into one anomaly so far, excluding whatever this sphere is supposed to be, and we're turning around because one person with some issue. As Wyatt said, Eden is fine, and so is the other one, Shasse-hei."

The Minkan took a pause, and added, continuing using a serious tone uncharacteristic of someone who hasn't seen combat yet. "If we were going explicitly ordered by our superiors to back off, then I'd oblige. However, what we're doing is abandoning the mission without Eden or Alastair saying anything. And to be quite frank - ... Never mind, just, let's just hold it."

Walter was about to say that he'd disobey Alastair if he dared bring that up, but in hindsight he may have stepped out of line already, questioning someone of a higher rank. Yet this didn't feel right; why are they leaving now?

Sacre was glad she wasn't in charge anymore. She turned to face Walter and Arete. "We're army grunts. When we get orders, we follow them. We are not robots, but there is an order to things that we must follow. Eden-Shosa ordered us to follow her out if it was safe. So, that's what we'll do. Belmont-Shoi is the one who gets to make the call. That's what being in charge means, when the chips are down and a choice needs to be made, you make it. However, an officer can't do everything. That's why they have enlisted pukes like you, specialists in their field to execute on their decisions." Sacre explained sternly to the pair.

Alastair had walked out of the line of fire and into hellfire. He was glad the grenades had stopped but only gave him enough time to watch as Eden and Shasse smashed into the dome and phased out of existence. Dead feeds from the Mindy, how insane was Eden to think their suits would survive this amount of energy.

"Alright team, lets group up and figure out a way..." It was at that moment he watched as Wyatt went up to the location Eden and Shasse had vanished. Before he could say anything. He got the report from Wyatt they were still alive. I wonder if Eden has always been this crazy or if Miko had rubbed off on her. He was about to give an updated command before Wyatt vanished through the dome.

"Damn it team, at least get a report if it is safe on the other side first before jumping off this same cliff." He said in a huff.

He started to get reports over the officer channel about the patrols on the other side.

Over private comms he spoke with Sacre.

"I hope you know something more than I do about this dome Sacre cause I am not sure even that would be enough. We got hostiles on the other side so if this fails I hope your good looks can kill cause that will be our only weapon."

Over team comms. "Welp, feel free to suggest some ideas. Else we be fighting the bad guys old school way on the other side."

Mark had done as ordered, and followed his team mates. When he lost readings on Eden and Shase's IFFs his heart skipped. No not again, this wasn't right. News of their survival lightened the sense of loss.

As Walter sided with the angel Arete, he had to agree. They came here to neutralize a threat.

"This is Santo-Hei Oaklen. Sir I have to agree with Hyde. We came here to do a mission, and as soldiers we have to complete this mission. That artifact could pose a very real threat. It's purpose is unknown and for all we know it could be a weapon of great power. I strongly recommend we continue our objective. I know a way out Belmont sir, and one that can get us past that field with gear intact. But we need to know what it is that this place seems clearly setup to house and protect. I will follow your orders, but I still ask that you reconsider leaving.", Mark said over an open channel to the team and to Alastair.

He opened a direct line to Alastair and only him, "Sir I mean it, and you know why. I'm asking you to trust me sir. I don't like this and Orias agrees. Something about this place is very wrong, and I feel potentially many lives could be lost if not dealt with now. Leaving leaves us vulnerable. Staying gets the job done, and possibly saves lives."

When it had clicked in the robot's nonexistant brain that the captain had given the order to fire, she responded "Affirmative, Chusa Hoshi." As she responded, the weaponry quickly spun on target. At first, only a few ranging shots were fired. And then, suddenly, all available Heavy Quad Anti-Mecha Cannons and Turbo Aether Turrets that were on target opened firing, unleashing a fury of projectiles that was incredibly, unhumanly accurate and precise on the enemy. Not a single shot drifted in the direction of any friendlies, but in contrast the enemy patrol now had quickly and carefully calculated shots heading for their ships.

Engineering
Kiki heard the Chusa's question and ran over to check on the aether generators, almost overshooting before she stopped herself in front of them. She examined them to make sure they were in working order, then reported back "Affirmative Chusa, aether generators are online."

Unleashing the Beast...

Gravity didn't need to be told twice. Her blood was pumping in her ears, and her face was contorted into a near maniacal, predatory grin. Flames danced in the reflective gold of her eyes as she giggled quietly and slammed the throttle forward. It was a decidedly creepy sight, like a woman possessed.

"Engaging." she said in an eerily calm voice, uncloaking the ship and sending it hurling out of its hiding spot. She squeezed the trigger of the main gun so hard her knuckles turned white, and felt the absolutely heavenly sensation of the ship shuddering as its massive main cannon lanced outward towards the lead gunship.

Yes! Y E S! BURN! This is what she'd been trained to do!

Shot away, she veered towards Eden's position, hoping Chlorate would keep up the good work with the turrets. At fifty meters and closing, she slid the ship sideways, keeping the main gun pointed at the enemy formation, blocking Eden, Shasse, and Wyatt from any incoming fire, and the armor bay doors open and ready to accept the two Neko.

Just in case these assholes were getting brave, she sent out another aether-powered reminder that she- Kara "Gravity" Sifsdottir- was the apex predator in these skies.

"In position for extraction!" Gravity announced to her captain. Then, to her weapons operator: "Keep on 'em, Chlobot!"

Miles had blacked out for a moment from the force of impact and woke groggily to the news that they weren't dead, definitely news he could of done with before he almost left his will to live behind and plummeted toward the floor. "Yeah, ok." He spoke slowly to Sacre trying to force his eyes to uncross so he could see straight again, "But I am a fair bit slower, I think I deserve time to bleed if I want to." The minkan said, his senses not yet back to normal.

Picking himself up he noticed Wyatt had passed through as well, "I'm not sure what the rest of you are doing but I know the memory of Eden telling us to follow her is not a concussion induced one, so I'm going after them." He moved to take off and rocket back up into the sky.

Outside the sphere, Shasse was still trying to protect Eden when shots from the Kaiyo began to arc towards the enemy gunships before the Kaiyo itself shimmered into view before them with the bay open ready to get them on board. "Oh wow, without a mindy on the Kaiyo seems a lot scarier up close." The neko spoke letting out a sigh of relief and grinning back at Eden. "And, thanks... for earlier, I'm really sorry about that I had no idea what to do and panicked."
