Mission Twelve: Naze Sorairo

Sacre considered the problem for a moment. It seemed that something was holding William where he was. The lifeform's signature had spread out, which made Sacre suspicious that what they were looking at was an illusion. Sacre had come across some illusions while she was on Ayenee. She closed her eyes as she thought about this. Imagining the sensor data that they had gathered. What if, what they were seeing was an illusion and the sensors were giving them the right information? Sacre's inclination would be to just shoot everything that wasn't them. Afterall, she did have some heavy weapons.

"It looks like there is something holding him in place. My guess is that it will trap us too if we get too close. We can't see it, so there is probably an illusion of some sort. Lets saturation fire the area that the life signature is in without hitting William. Arete, be ready to catch him if it lets him go and he falls. Walter lets open up your big guns. Mark, your Gauss cannon is more precise, cover the area around William. William," Sacre paused, not sure what he could do. "Enjoy the fireworks. On three, one, two, three."

"You're gonna what!?!" William exclaimed, trying in vain to move before he was shot at. He changed his goal from turning on his boosters, to ramping his shields to maximum, drawing from every spare drop of energy he could find. He didn't want a stray bullet to find its way into his body.

He cringed and bit his tongue hard enough to taste blood to keep himself from screaming at them for how insane this plan was.

Aether Sphere Innards

"H-hai!" Okay, you can do this. Just focus on him, and when he falls... The angel pulled the trigger on her weapon with the rest of the gathering, aiming off to her left, the searing bolts of energy dashing through the air as she did so - only diverting her glance enough to not shoot an ally before returning to William as he was suspended.

The Minkan backed off, worried that he could fall into the same gravity trap, and prepared to fire his guns... But pauses. Walter unclips the drums from the guns, and manually inserts the heavy chains into the automatic grenade launchers on his shoulders.

"Just close your eyes, William. You are going to be alright." Walter hovered down a little, and then... "Firing away!"

He fired grenade after grenade, four grenades per second, at just about everywhere to his right for twenty seconds. Walter sounded so calm and collected, you can't tell that the Minkan is secretly worrying that the five of them have bitten off more than they could chew...

... Yare yare daze...

Chlorate heard Strong's message and beeped. She then turned to Crusha Chusa Hoshi and reported "Weapons are ready to fire on your command, captain."

Engineering Bay
The cockatoo walked around the bay. Was... that it? she thought. Was that all I have to do? It seemed too simple. She thought that surely there was something else she was supposed to be doing now... But she was new and she wasn't aware of what. She scratched her crested head and paced around the engineering bay.

Mark was baffled as Walter suddenly appeared ahead of him, looking back a moment with only WTF on his mind. He snapped out of it though as arete's plan failed and Sacre gave her orders.

"Something isn't right about this, I sense a disturbance.", Orias said with a tension that could be felt.

Mark set his 20mm cannon to auto fire through automated directs via Geist on the area designated by Sacre.

"Well give me your eyes for a sec so I can see if there is something there. Your a demon, deceptions and illusions don't effect you.", Mark said before Orias changed his eyes to that of his demon form.

With schelera of jet black and crimson reptilian slit pupils he observed the area around William as well as the space he occupied.

"See you have your own, now stop pestering me."

Wyatt lowered his rifle and switched his comms back to normal after noticing his mistake, it was clear that he wouldn't be getting any answers in the heat of the moment so he'd drop it for now, but once they were back in the safety of the ship and out of this particular hell, he'd be sure to bring it up and be more of an asshole than usual if that was what it took for his voice to be heard.

"Roger, will do" he spoke in a flat, purely professional tone as a response to the order before turning to Alastair.

"Alright Alastair, do your chain thing and meet up with me when you can, I'll fly ahead and begin looking for a way out okay? okay" the Minkan marksman informed the man before crouching down.

"Stand back"

With a great burst of speed, he rocketed up into the sky, kicking up a cloud of sand in his wake as he began to scout around for a way out.

Care's response was somewhat along the lines of what he'd expected. After all, while most people probably don't realize it, most people will at first decline any help that's being offered to them, almost instinctively. Why that is, Abart wasn't sure, but it was something he'd learned in all his years.

Not that it mattered right now though. Even is she wasn't ready now, he'd managed to break the ice somewhat. After enough dillydallying, Abart took a moment to respond, zooming across the shoreline alongside Care. "No probs. Don't hesitate to ask whatever." This sentence was further emphasized with a quick thumbsup. Still, he'd make sure to keep an eye on her after all this.

Care's other remark brought him back to the more serious nature of the situation. She was right, this place was getting ore unsettling by the second. Even while the two were oblivious to the strange events around Shasse and William, the uncanny emptiness of this place was something straight out of some cheap horror movie. Not really scary or anything, but eerie enough to keep you on your toes.

"Right. Aside from the overhead tunnels i haven't seen any "manmade" looking structures on the surface here..... it makes no sense. Just like how there's not a single living thing here... it's quite literally completely dead here."

Racing across the surface, he let down one hand to drat the fingertips through the sand, grabbing a clump to hold. As far as he could tell it was ordinary sand, nothing special. "Well, whatever it is we're looking for, it has to be something to lead us deeper down. This surface just feels like some fake coverup thing to me." Under his breath, the snake muttered a bit more, forgetting to turn off the comms. "Man there better be a star in there..."

YSS Kaiyo II - Bridge

For a second Nerai forgot about Chlorate's complete lack of understanding of sarcasm, or any other kind of non-literal cues. "Uh.... just......when the mission is over? ....i guess?" At a loss for words, she just went with whatever popped into her mind.

Unsure of what to do now, the safetysnake was quickly brought back to attention by Hoshi's voice. Did she just refer to Nerai by her full name? Heck, regardless of context, being called by one's full name out of nowhere was never comforting. "I'll agree, a scientist would be a great help. Though the lack of mass within the planet's core is......worrying. An empty void of that size would be big enough to house a "star" like object, but if that were the case it would have a significant amount of mass on it's own..."

Meanwhile her hands had been tapping away again, condensing the Kaiyo's scanners onto William's particular situation. Strange... There didn't seem to be any gravitational or scalar forces holding william up like that, aside from Arete's bamboozling and the Mindy's own CFS. In a way it reminded her of a ghost-type misshuu, even if those were something completely different. Heaven forbid the Sorairo universe had something as vile as that.

"...and about William...." She paused. "I'm not getting any gravitational readings..... aside from a smaller one from Sirinus-hei,for some reason. Whatever is holding him up there is doing so via very mystical means." Slumping in her seat slightly she thought about the thing the others had told Nerai about in their previous mission. With Mark suddenly blacking out and whatnot. She noted that ever since that day he had been much less social with a lot of the other crew, outside of work, at least.

All this spooky magic stuff in these dimensions was really getting on her nerves. Being the oldest person aboard the kaiyo, this would be a perfect place for a "too old for this shit" joke.....

Miles snatched up the fallen helmet and rushed to Eden's side and refitted it over Shasse's head while helping to hold his friend still as she thrashed about noticeably getting weaker and weaker probably due to the strange doll Eden was pressing into her. "What do you want me to do, you clearly have a better understanding of whatever this is so I'm at your command." He spoke to Eden watching the vitals of the neko slowly normalising on his HUD as she calmed down.

Inside the mindy Shasse was sobbing as she tried to move but was unable to since the suit had been locked, the brief moment of hunger had passed her by and the cool laughter of the vampire in her head had faded away leaving her more than horrified at what she'd just tried to do to her team mates. "Eden... I'm so sorry I couldn't stop it, I'm not strong enough to deal with this you should just leave me behind to die. I... I almost hurt people I can't go back and face them." Her words were choked by the periodic sobs as she clutched the doll tightly to herself only able to move her fingers enough to keep a firm grip.

Alastair looked to Miles and gave him a pat on the back for fetching the helm and putting it back on Shasse.

"Alright, going to scout and find out a way out of this tin can." He said as he bolted after Wyatt. He made a point to take a seat on the chain between the two drones. He was being carried like he was sitting on a swing behind the drones.

"Should of done this before, this is pretty fun." He shouted as he started to do tricks with the chain like flipping backwards or leaping off it and grabbing it with his hands.

Those like Wyatt and Belont-shoi's drone chain contraption that were high in the sky would notice that there were gunshots coming from a cloudy-covered mountain range. Soon, they would also be able to notice that the stray shots that hit the ground of what should otherwise be solid mass went directly through it, not to be seen again. Those shots that strayed upwards or, like Walter's, to the horizon or sky would explode where a planet's atmosphere would normally have been. The gunfire erupted outwards and visual scans on his drones happened to catch an image of the outside of the sphere, particularly the structure they had come from with Lauren Stong's own Mindy-clad form.

"Grab her legs and go," Eden said calmly to the dual colored eyed Minkan as she held his hand momentarily, looking into his Mindy's visor. "Remember, medic first, soldier second. I won't have three of us in a hemo tube today, got it? When I say let go, you let go of her. Understood, Miles Belmont-hei?"

Teien Eden called out to her team as she saw the bursts and explosions far above them and to their sides on the horizon, saying, "Report!"

Mountain

William was suddenly teleported into Wyatt's arms, bridal style, the moment Mark's demon eyes began looking. Their shots were having effects on the horizon and sky in that there were explosions in the far distance where a planet's atmosphere normally would have been, which was where the team had come from to begin with.

Lauren Strong transmitted to her bridge, "Kaiyō actual, I am seeing a large amount of disturbances on the aether sphere surface that are irregular to the ones I have been seeing thus far." She peeked into one of the holes, thinking she saw something, but shook her head and stayed strong on the platform.

Once he had reached what he would class as a decent cruising altitude for scouting, Wyatt gently arched forward and evened out until his body was parallel to the ground beneath him. He pivoted his head over to where he could hear gunshots coming the mountain, it looked like they were... shooting the ground?

But the shots looked like they were going thro-

His field of view was suddenly obscured when the large armour belonging to William suddenly appeared in his arms. Instinctively Wyatt threw his thrusters into reverse and the jolting sensation that came from going fast to suddenly stopping churned his stomach a little.

Wyatt blinked a few times under his helmet before he began speaking with uncertainty. "...William, is it...?" he paused as he thought of what to say.
"Do you know what is going on? because I sure as hell do not"

Gravity sat in silence, eyes focused on the small patrol ambling its way around the perimeter. Her left hand rested on the throttle, the other gripping the stick with her finger hovering over the trigger for the main gun. Her breathing was calm and relaxed, like a predator watching its prey from a distance with cool remoteness.

So far, the enemy ships hadn't shown any signs that they'd spotted the Kaiyo. If they had, they might have called for backup, and more ships would have entered the core of the planet. No, better to remain calm and observe.

"Chlobot, if things go south, I'm going to use the main gun on the lead gunship. Your turrets could make mincemeat of the scouts. So far we have the jump on 'em..." she whispered. She knew that the cloaking system was holding, but one could never be too careful. Now, with the away team firing their guns into the sky, the azure neko had a strong gut-feeling that someone else was going to start firing back pretty soon.

After a few moments, Sacre signaled for them to stop shooting. She took stock of the situation before responding to Eden. She also put Alisair in the loop as well. "Just conducting some recon by fire. It looks like our shots went straight through the 'world' as it were. A few of them register that they hit something where it looks like there shouldn't be anything. William got teleported to Belmont-Shoi's position, so we are linking up with them. We will be continuing our recon until we link up." Sacre reported, motioning for them to back out of the cave and head towards Wyatt and William. She felt a bit of relief that they would have a proper officer there and she could relax from being in charge of the impromptu squad. "As we are moving, I want to get some more information about what's happening with the sky. So we'll go line ahead. Arete, I want you on point. I'll follow you, then Walter, and Mark guarding our rear. Walter, let's use your grenades to see exactly how far away the 'ceiling' is, then lets do some time on target to see if we can blow a hole in it. Arete, Mark, make sure that if shooting the sky changes anything else, we see it too."

Abart was naturally kind and supportive, two traits she had seen a lot of in recent times. The common nature of it had begun to bother Care at some point, some level of jealousy at how easy the two seemed to come for others. The ability to have such weight stacked upon someone as they attempted to carry the troubles of themselves and others, and when it seemed to be too overbearing to handle, they did not ask for less weight, they asked for broader shoulders. It felt wrong to trudge along next to them when they acted in such ways when she couldn't hope to feel the same, so the solution became quite simple, albeit deceitful.Fake it. Pretend to be like them. It was by no means simple, but she had plans already, and although she could not enact such things so quickly as to incorporate it into her current actions, she didn't estimate it to take much longer.

The coastline had proven devoid of anything of notice. Scans continued to show nothing of direct value, and in their flight they had clearly uncovered nothing of note. In contradiction, however, their communications lit up with chatter and talk, shifting as if various events were happening out of her sight. She figured she would be called to if needed, so she had continued her scans along the coast along with Abart.

Sand. Water. Rocks. There was little else. She could only ignore and work without adhering to what she was hearing for so long, but things seemed to be going bad at a steady pace. Did they need a Medic? Well, they had one, but that still didn't answer whether or not they needed her. She wouldn't break from the orders she was given, but she could request a change. She was a Jôtô Hei after all, she had the ability to at least ask if she should be redirected to another task, or if she should continue her current one.

Jôtô Hei. That was almost an officer. Why did it feel like she didn't deserve it as much as the others did? It should feel different than this, at least she should have felt something more when it was given to her. She never asked for the promotions, and even if she never was promoted she doubted the idea that she would ever ask for one. But now wasn't the time, now wasn't the place. Too repetitive a task, too much time to think. Had to change that, with or without orders. "This is Care, continuing scans until an update in orders is made. Please advise when able." She glanced over to Albart, he seemed to be enjoying himself, at least somewhat. She could mimic that, couldn't she?

Miles nodded at Eden and steeled his nerves for whatever plan she had as the brief moment of contact gave him hope and reassurance, moving to let go of the now immobile Shasse he took a hold of her legs and rose slowly into the air. "Alright Eden I'm ready to go, how are we getting out of here?" The minkan asked with a flat tone looking back at his Second Officer.

Shasse calmed her breathing and tried her best to steady her racing heart as she heard Miles and Eden talking, she would be ok but that was the least of her concern. The blue neko was still coming to terms with how she'd almost hurt her friends just because she wasn't careful and hadn't listened to the warning she was given about failing to take on blood occasionally. She felt herself being lifted gently into the air and instinctively tried to balance before remembering she couldn't move the mindy she was trapped in. Some of her memories came back of being stuck in a mindy unable to feel her disfigured arm in the forest but she shook them away and stayed focused.

William squeezed his eyes closed just as the rounds began to fly, but suddenly had the sense that he was falling. He gasped as he fell and was caught by Wyatt. His eyes flew back open and he quickly rolled from Wyatt's grasp, firing his massive suits thrusters as he did to put himself into a hover. "I have no idea what in the hell just happened." William replied to the Wyatt as he flexed his arms and legs slowly, making sure everything was still in working order. "Thanks for the catch by the way." He added, turning back to him.

He then listened to Sacre's orders. "This is William, returning to formation." He said over the squad comm. He then looked back to the Shoi. "Coming?" He asked before turning and flying off on an intercept course with Sacre and the rest of the fire team.

Alastair was cruising along when the sky lit up with gun fire. He had taken the advise of his fox friend to stay back and coordinate things from a distance. Welp, this idea was not working out either as the team was again wildly firing in all directions. He watched as round smashed into the outer dome of this place. Fuck, my team is going to bring the roof down on our heads. He commented to himself. He did also take note that the rounds that should of hit the ground passed through instead. This for sure comfirms most of this inside space is not real.

As he was flying behind Wyatt a random William showed up in his arms, being held princess style. "Hey hey, you two can do that back on the ship, we got a mission to stay on task with." He said with a chuckle over the comms channel.

It was about this time the firing of the weapons stopped and a report showed up from Sacre. That is one heck of a way to prove something isn't real. Lets just put a few rounds into it and hope for the best. He so wanted to facepalm but it did prove something so not all bad.

"Roger Sacre, will intercept you and the team to regroup. Things are not what they seem in this place at all."

Aether Sphere Innards

"Rodger that, Sacre." Orders are orders, even though that bad feeling still hasn't been shaken off. At this point, Walter's wondering if this is his paranoia, or his enhanced senses telling him that there actually IS danger around here.

... Well, they're 'enhanced senses', not 'always correct' senses.

When Hyde stepped out of the cave, he pointed his grenades upwards to the sky, and proceeded to fire them out at the very fast rate that would equal a automatic machine gun. His PA kept track of his position, allowing him to move and keep an eye on what he's shooting at.

"... Up until now, I failed to understand the point of having these grenades being so smart. But now I know it's for shenanigans like this," Walter said lightly. The grenades shoot upwards as fast as a bullet, high into the sky...

Alastair watched as a shower of grenades filled the sky from Walters position. Oh for the love of... his thoughts trailed off as he started to dodge the now obstacle filled sky. "Stop firing you bird brain, there are friendlies in the sky..." His words ended sharply as a grande caught the chain and exploded. Alastair was quick to activate his jets but this did not lessen the fact the sky was being filled with enough grenades to blanket the sky.

The drones started to circle Alastair and fire as they descended as quickly as possible. Damn it to hell Eden, just had to tell the team about friendly fire. While the IFF of the grenades he hoped would see him as friendly he was not about to risk it. In a spectacular show of lights Alastair descended with a stream of explosions trailing behind him.
