Mission Eleven: Sakidō

Bay - Cave
The cave stretched out ahead of her, and as the warnings of the sensors seem to gloss over her. She could sense it, she could feel the energy signatures approaching, but they seemed to not catch her eye. Even as she stared at the sensor and watched the readings rear closer, it did not occur to her what they meant, and by the time she began to move, it was several seconds later. She was sluggish, slow, and she thudded awkwardly against the wall once she finally moved, and she just moved wrong.

Her head was flooded, lag was a close word but it no longer held the meaning she needed it to. The word was right and wrong, it was accurate but it didn't cover. The world felt fuzzy, losing color, yet she persisted, unable to put things on pause.

Fort Miller

Medical attendants and personnel were moving around those still around Shasse and Mark, who had just arrived on a gurney and was now on an operating table. Eden had taken a step back. Her black staight bangs clung to her sweaty forehead and she looked on with concern.

"Darwin, Miles, I would like it if you two showered and went back to cabins," Eden ordered, then continued in a softer voice, "We've been through enough today to know when to pack it in. Maybe you two can help them tomorrow, but we've done all we can for now. Thank you."

East

The pomegranate in question was just waiting to be had.

Cave

All of a sudden, an intense rushing sound as if millions of birds were chirping came through the cave. Then, small forms could be seen. Tiny dragons made their way through the cave at intense speeds and weaved in and around the pillars, stalactites, and stalagmites. They were soon at the lip of the cave and flew out, for Nerai's small team to see.

"Those look like baby... dragons," Hoshi said with an emphasis on the last word. She took out her science scanner once more and began taking readings. "I am thinking we should remain still!"

Mark was soon tended to by the surgeons after his armor had been removed and an IV drip put into his arm delivering fluids and pain meds to his system. As the pain faded and he was finally able to relax, one last whisper was heard as the world faded to black.

"Do you fear the dark?", A child like voice whispered ever faintly in his ear.

Miles nodded to Eden, he knew she was right there's not much they can do other than wait and make sure they're ready to help out the injured when they need it, this mission had not yet had a fatality which was about the only good thing that had happened so far. As of yet he hadn't heard of anyone finding the fruit and now Mark was lying on an operating table as well so two decent injuries and no decent success, Miles couldn't help but smirk at the fate they had been dealt and how painfully annoying it had been to them.

"Well you heard her Darwin, we should head back to the cabins and get some rest. Miles didn't know much when it came to feelings or how to deal with them but he could tell the human was worried and as he turned to leave he bumped him on the shoulder, "Hey, she's going to be ok. All you can do now is follow orders and wait till morning and I'm sure she'll be happy to see you."

In a quieter tone he spoke, his tone taking a more serious than friendly approach as he spoke, "She probably hasn't told you yet, but. The fact that you were concerned about her will have almost brought her to tears, she may seem like someone who could fit in with any group but the truth is that all through training she was shunned for some of her views and ideas. You're probably one of the only friends she has besides me, please don't break her heart ok."

Miles made eye contact with Darwin but the request wasn't a threat and more of a plea from a friend, moving past him Miles headed back to their quarters to take a shower and then change into some more comfortable nightwear, Eden had given them the direct order to return to cabins so he doubted he'd be called out to do anything.

The Quest for the Fruit of the Gods

Gravity quickly grabbed Katsu's hand and began dragging him away.

"Come, Fluffy! We must make haste for Murr-Sparkle Road!" she commanded, having misheard Arete due to her mind being clouded with thoughts of mountains of pomegranate seeds. She'd literally been eaten alive trying to find the sacred fruit, and she'd be damned if she was going to let this opportunity slip through her fingers!

Just as predicted, Arete was able to name a few supermarkets. This would greatly help them in getting that fruit, then they could get back to base and finish this nonsense mission. Maybe they could get some actual training in afterwards...

Katsu meeped as he was grabbed by the hand and was dragged away, but quickly regained himself. "Ah! Okay okay Gravity... Nora, Lauren, Arete, check out the other supermarket. We'll check Mirthspark Road!" he said as he floated half a feet above the ground as he was dragged away. He smiled a bit though and looked at Gravity, glad that someone actually wanted to go with him. He nevertheless opened the comms to the little squad and said "I just noticed... I don't think I have any of the local currency. Arete, or any of you others, do you have local coins to pay? Or can convince the shopkeeper that the Star Army will pay him?"

Fort Miller: Infirmary

He hadn't even pulled himself up from his bow by the time he received his superior's orders. He'd arise and nod, unable to catch a sight of the injured Mark amidst the crowd of medical staff that hustled and bustled through the jammed Infirmary Module. He didn't object. It was probably best to leave the work to the professionals instead of grieving in front of a girl in a tube. Plus, defying orders wasn't going to get him anywhere. The fact that he chose to play it safe pained him. He knew she couldn't hear his pleas for her forgiveness. He knew all he could do was wait for the professionals to make sure she's okay.

But that made things all the more difficult for him. His eyes lowered. The first mission since arriving in this new world, and it could be considered a critical failure even for a meager scouting operation. Miles's words didn't seem to comfort him, leaving him staring at the floor for a second as the man made his way towards the door. Though he would utter the words "Thank you" over his shoulder just before he reached the door.

He chose to walk over towards the hangar instead of his cabin. Though his body was crying out for a chance to rest with each muscle aching up a storm, he wouldn't want to settle just yet.

Fort Miller: Hangar

The heavy weight of the Mindy armor sank away as he clambered out of it like a young cicada leaving its shell. Stretching its arms as it would have stretched its wings. From this angle, he could get a better view of the blood splattered on its arm. It even seemed to have dribbled down the suit's chest as well. Let's hope it'd be easy to clean. He sat on the bench next to where his armor was hung up, staring at the suit for a few moments in only his underwear, mulling over the day's events in his head, relaying it all like a film. His back was slouched. His amber eyes were glued to that crimson stain.

Cave exterior

While Hoshi and Care went about exploring the internal cave system, the two Separa'shan outside stood guard over the inlet between the rocky cliffs. With not much else to do besides standing around, being alert and stuff, the two engaged in light banter as guards often tend to do.

".....to which the said "why would i be wearing kneesocks? I don't have any knees!"".
"Pfffhahah!....oh that one never gets old........ if i had a penny for evey time some guy asked me that back in my first years...geez."
"Right. Just save me the cheesy pickup lines if you would. Have heard more than enough of those back in training, those poor fellows..."
"Mhmm, practice makes perfect i suppose... though you'd be surprised what the Onsen does for relationships~"
"Mhmm, sure does..........waitwut?"
"Hmm~? Has our little Barry been making friends in the tuuuub~?"
"Wha-.....w-well yes i have, what's it to you!?"
"Hmmm i am ever so inclined to ask who it wasss~ And you know i keep asking till i get my answer so just spill the beans, Barryboi~"
"DONT! call me that! .....and it was nothing special really, just chilling....."
"With whoooo~!?"
".......Peregrine...........and Hoshi..."
".....p...pffffffhahahahahahahah!! Oh dear Nagashun i can only imagine how akward that wouldve been! Ohohoho~!!!"
"Oh zip it!..... You have your answer, can we just change the subject now?"
"-ahaha.....yeah, sure........so uh.. say, one thing i've been wondering, whatever have you done with that shipping container of chicken meat? It's been standing in storage wor weeks now."
"Ooh that. I've given a lot of it to the galley staff who were more than happy with it, but in the meantime i've been making my own jerky. After some experimentation i find smoked with a slight oregano rub is my fav."
"Ah right, you and your Oregano addiction... i'm surprised you don't put in on your eggs at this point..."
"I do."
"Ah...."
"....wanna try some?"
"What, jerky?"
"Mhmm! I brought some along for on the go."

Reaching onto his StarArmy buttpack, Abart'huse quickly procures a metallic tube, around the size of a small thermos, and unscrews the top to reveal the dried meaty goodness inside. "Here, have some."

"Ooh, looking pretty good. Let's see..."
Nerai reaches into the tube, picking out one of the chewy dark strips of dried poultry. Without thinking she eyes it up before bringin it to her mouth for a bite......making it tap against the glass of the Shibui's helmet visor. Abart struggled to keep his grinning in check, and wasnt very sucessful either.

It was at that point, that the swarm of babydragons erupted from within tha caves, spolling out onto the clearing of the sea's inlet. Nerai barely even registered Abart's chuckling as she gazed upon the otherworldly sight. "....woah........ are those...dragons!?"

"Hmmhm-oh, shoot!" The undersized angel was patting at her butt pack before realizing something of hers was very much missing. And then... She chuckled a little bit, oddly relaxed despite her earlier statement of panic. "Okay I can probably pay for them but I'll need to get my wallet first. It'll be probably like, I dunno a five minute flight if not less, you guys go ahead to look and let me know when you find them! I'll come back here when I've got it!" She took to the skies again, rising a few meters above the party. "I'll be back in a couple minutes!" She repeated as her armored exoskeleton zipped away towards Fort Miller, "Sorry about that!"

Arete hovered above the buildings by a few meters. She darted around with surprising speed given her relative inexperience with the Mindy, and was making good time to the Fort - providing she didn't get interrupted.

Fort Miller
The Chlobot sat in a chair near Mark, leaving room for the medical personnel to attend to Mark without being interfered with. She frowned, her glowing eyes stared at him. She slowly tilted her head down and brought her robotic arms up, holding the sides of her head with her metallic hands. ...Was this happening again? Her "parents" had already died before, did it need to happen to her again? The robot didn't know what to say. Even if she did have something to say, she would have no one to say it to. So all she could do was sit there and wait, much like... what happened before...

Cabins
Miles lay down on his bunk in his uniform, although his original plan had been to change into casual attire he couldn't help but feel as though it wasn't right to consider himself done for the day if not the mission when two of his comrades were within the medical bay being treated for severe injuries. He'd seen the concern on Darwin's face and the helplessness of their situation had seemed to dull the humans eyes as though his very soul had stepped out of his body leaving a shell of his former self, staring at the ceiling Miles had begun to fidget from lack of anything better to do.

PA Bay
Miles had made his way back to the PA Bay looking for Darwin, he didn't know what kind of a state he was in and aside from that wanted to talk to him about the strange phenomenon that had occurred within the forest earlier. As he entered he saw the mindy with the bloodstains on it's arm and torso, it had already begun to dry and left redish-brown stains across the sleek surface of the suit, moving over towards the armour he spotted Darwin staring blankly at the stains and approached him.

"You know it's not good to leave the blood there for too long, can ruin the coating on the armour not to mention won't help prevent rust any more than a bucket of salt water." Miles at a guess thought Darwin's hesitation to clean it may have been out of some mental trauma from the earlier events within the forest, and the memories the blood brought back of the poor girls body lying battered and broken on the forest floor. Shaking such thoughts from his own head before they brought back all the self loathing Miles sat down beside Darwin.

"I'll help you clean it up if you like, we're both in a similar position at the moment with nothing to do and nothing to think about aside from her. Afterwards I'd like to talk to you, and Teien Shosa as well if she's free, now that we aren't under the effects we experienced I think we should discuss them and how they affected each of us along with analysing the data I recorded on the flora." Miles finished his proposal and sat quietly on the bench, until Darwin made his own decision to move forwards he couldn't force him to and he himself had nowhere else to be in a hurry, so he sat.

Whether they were birds, bats, dragons, or some other being, Care couldn't know, she wasn't there. She fidgeted against the wall, her control wavering as she began to slide down the wall. Her eyes turned to Hoshi, but even with her synthetic gaze being hard to read it felt off, as if the lenses were trying to focus on things that were too close or too far away, her facial plates stiffening and loosening without pattern. No words came from her as she slid to the floor, but the terrified and wild look on her face persisted.

Her body shuttered, forcing overrides as she fell against the wall, a soft whimper smothered with vocotion escaping her suit.

Unfortunately, Walter didn't have any Ayenee currency, despite having been here for four months. Hearing the winged infantry member, who basically confirmed to Walter that she was an angel at this point, over the comms gave him the idea of possibly finding a way to get some in the future, since Star Army hasn't established any currency trade as far as he knew.

"Belmont, sir, should we look for the pomegranate at the supermarket as well?" Walter Hyde asked the officer. The Santo Hei assumed that's what they're doing, at least.

Cave

The dragons passed eventually in full without causing too much damage and Hoshi was soon bending down to put a hand on Care's shoulder after taking a quick reading once more.

"Come on, the energy signatures and more life forms are deeper within the cave, but I feel the scientific discovery is worth a team of specialists to check out. Let's go."

The small dragons sprung out of the cave and flew and swarmed around the Separa'Shan specifically. They stayed there for a few moments, creating a vortex around the two. The other few members of the squad were backing up and comming in to Hoshi.

Hoshi said to Care, "Really, let's go!"

City

The pomegranates were now hidden from view of all of the Star Army of Yamatai personnel as they were on a street just a block East from their landing zone in the square, but what was happening was that the people in the square were starting to take notice of the power suit and Mindy-clad team by eyeing and in two cases, approaching the varying members on the ground. Even Arete was stopped by a flying golden, polished, and humanoid droid that put up a hand and asked her a question loudly.

"Are you looking to get killed?"

Fort Miller

The patients lay in deep unconscious states as they were worked on by hemosynth and medics alike.

Technically Above the City

The sage drifted to a halt rather quickly, turning to look at the automaton in its hovering... Well, not really glory. Only arrogant morons decide to make their stuff all fancy and shiny like this, regular forces opt for a much more utilitarian and mundane appearance. Which means this had to be someone's personal bodyguard, or part of a PMC unit. She responded politely, though; "No, I am not, sir. I am looking for my purse, technically speaking. I apologize if I am causing you distress, but I really must go." She once again turned, and resumed her airborne trek through the city if at a... slightly more cautious pace. To appease that guy and his robot friend, wherever the guy was.

She considered trying to look around with the sense of gravitational sensitivity, but decided not to - no sense trying to do that when she had to navigate the city at a... not-so-high speed anyways, took too much concentration away from her flying to risk it.

Walter Hyde is a smart guy; he is capable of fixing any and all Yamatai tech that wound up at his feet, able to go into a fight with a plan at the ready, and calculate parabolas with fair accuracy. Though as smart as he is, he falls victim to his own emotions. Walter turned his head from side to side, checking the crowd of people who were staring at him, seeing how they moved around, their expressions -

Hold it right there, these people aren't going to attack or anything... They're just, we're just odd people. You'd be scared too, if you saw people in weird armor. Just... How about we run another scan again, let's see if we missed one.

Walter deployed his NSP drones before he initiated another scan; the drones circled around his head, keeping an eye of all angles. He couldn't trust how shifty the towns people look, even if they have every right to be. Something in him refused to let him be complacent about this... This inexcusable paranoia of the townsfolk.

The Minkan's heartbeat increased as adrenaline pumped into his system. The sensors picked up the location of the pomegranate immediately. He looked calm and displayed no weakness, just as he was trained to behave on the field, despite his overwhelming anxiety.

Walter Hyde quietly separated from Alastair; the rookie Minkan pushed aside the smaller natives as he made a beeline right for a pomegranate tree, ripe with the fruit.

The NSBs continue to orbit, keeping tabs on Walter's surroundings. He stopped by the stall, and relayed a message to all personnel within Capital City. "I have located the pomegranate; acquiring the fruit immediately." Walter said coldly.

True to Walter's word, he plucked a few fruits right off the branches, after which he immediately took off without anything to say. His tense, unsteady hands wavered as he firmly held onto the fruits he collected.

Walter wanted to go back to the Fort after this; staying to search for stupid pomegranate was a dumb idea.

Mikael watched as the junior enlisted go about their business. He really should have told them that discretion should have been key here since people tend to not like seeing highly armed personnel walking as if they own the streets. But he decided he could kill two stones with one bird, let them live out their mistake and to see how their forces respond to such a threat. And he got exactly what he wanted.

He observed the polished drone and the people reacting to them.

"Okay, that is enough. Engage the active camo that your mindies were designed with and withdraw to Fort Miller." Mikael orders the junior enlisted. "We have done quite enough."

Mikael then just puts his hand on the front of his helmet and watches them do as they are ordered before floating back himself.
