The wolf grimaced and then stood up. "Oh I can move again, oh thank you."

The wolf licked at steve's hand and then gently gripped the hand into his mouth.

He gazed deeply up at steve's eyes and a soft....orange-red hue began to surround the wolf as it concentrated.

The voice in steve's head spoke in a soft, calming tone. One that was soothing, but alluring at the same time.
"As I promised, very soon, you and I shall, bond. You'll feel it. But this, is only the first step of it."

The gaze slowly relaxes and settles within what can only be felt.

Then the wolf releases the hand and lays down at Steve's feet.

Steve didn't like the sound of the look of that. "Bond? I don't think so furball. I'd prefer keeping my mind to myself, especially since it feels like its about to explode."

Za Ree Om Had Taken the controls and maintained his silence although his attention was split in all directions watching the consols around the cockpit, and paying attention to the wolf and the Human. As he heard the word Bond and saw the wolf taking the humans hand into its mouth, he released a harmonic wailing sound To which the translation system turned a six minute tyraid into "Ha HA " For a moment there was silence before he spoke again his harmonic burst being translated quickly " You're getting married to a fur bad ? "

"And there-in, is one of my unique talents. Keeping those migraines at bay."

*The wolf curls around the humans legs for a moment both eyes closing as the mental-string plays a few chords of light classical music that vibrate's steve's mind gently and then saps, the terrible pounding, away from the humans skull. Of course, this in itself has it's side effect for the wolf.*

*The wolf slowly uncurls and walks calmly over to a wall, where it proceeds to smack it's head into the wall quickly to rid it of the powerful buzzing noise in it's brain.*

"There we go, that's better."

Whatever the wolf did, had a side effect. Steve had the migranes because there was a powerful well of psychic energy that he was only just beginning to develope the ability to control. The way it had been done meant that his power far outstripped his ability to control it, and this is why when the wolf went poking around in his head, this happened.

Steve screamed. He clutched his hands to his head as a massive shockwave of pain rolled along his neurones. His vision blurred and flashes of light surged along his optic nerves. Then the pain moved on. Steve was still in agony, but the surge jumped through the ether, down whatever the wolf was using to try and numb Steve's pain, and into the wolf's own mind. This was the equivalent of a massive psychic attack, one that had Steve been able to control would be a far more dangerous weapon than anything onboard the ship.

The former soldier slumped against the console and fell to the floor, still grasping his head, and groaning in agony.

The wolf felt the sudden intensity and trickles and tickles of power. "What the-" The wolf's own brain realized almost too suddenly what was going on. "Oh gods, STEVE!" The wolf yelped loudly and was flung backwards by the intensity of the hit.

The wolf landed hard against the back wall and dropped motionless.
Still alive, but completely knocked out by the power surge.

Steve wasn't doing this. It was an unconcious reflex, likely programmed into his mind when it was altered. He wasn't currently in a position to do anything either. The pain that was pinning him to the console was as bad as it had gotten so far and it was taking all of his strength to stay concious.

Za Ree Om watched both the man and the wolf, it was strange the human was screaming with no apparent wounds or harmonic signatures to indicate a weapon had been fired, and the wolf was unconscious. It was Clear figuring out what happened to Steve was priority. Moving backward a little Za Ree Om's arms extended tapping steves forehead lightly. Although the idea of what had happened was completely not known to him, guessing from Steves reaction his head hurt. Letting out a loud harmonic burst on a low frequency was something his people did when they were dealing with people who were being tortured, it was a way to calm them so they could confess, or explain the enemy military strategy. Hoping it would work Za Ree Om turned to the translator control system and flipped it off , for the moment.

Steve gasped for breath and continued to hold his head. The harmonics helped alittle. He was able to pull enough of his mind together to actually remember that he was a person.

"Mind...." He gasped for breath "..burning.." he almost doubled over "..can't think... can't.." he screamed again and slumped against the console.

Za Ree Om, glanced down to Steve, who seemed to be completely out to lunch as did the fur covered creature. It was irritating that he seemed to be the only one still awake, and now he had to play nurse maid to a creature that had insulted his species' pride, himself and his personal space, as well as a creature whom seemed to be dealing with a combustion problem in his head.

And Jik'tor seemed to be out of his head too. Turning his attention back to the controls they had a little while longer before they would arrive at the colony, but still it was plenty of time for something to go horribly wrong. Sliding an arm out he grasped the controls for the ship and disengaged the auto pilot. As it stood from the gages that could be read they had roughly Seventy eight hours of breathable atmosphere in the ship.

Turning around from the controls after settleing the controls on a sub light course towards the colony, he grabbed the wolf and the human with his arms and dragged them into the main compartment where Jik'tor remained sitting. It was clear that Za Ree Om was not happy as his silvery membrane clouded a bit and turned a deep purple in color.

Steve started to speak again.. "attacked.. attacked... attacked..." he just started repeating that word over and over again. He clearly wasn't in charge of his faculties.

The wolf bit back a deep resented and repressed growl as it shoved both paws up to it's eyes. It slowly lowered the paws and winced at the incredious light pouring into it's eyes and into it's brain.

Thinking to itself. "Pain, too much pain. Something...happened. Bad effectual result."

The wolf staggered to it's feet only to slump down almost instantly upon attempting to stand.

It bit back another snarl, it's teeth bared with pain and it gazed over at steve.
The human should have easily bonded. But something fed-back into the wolf, something the wolf hadn't expected. Some kind of psy-enery feedback of some sort.

Again the wolf staggered to it's paws and bit back another repressed growl of pain as it staggered to a console in the hall that activated the "Dog-speak" retro-language system.

It fed it's words directly into a muffler thing attached to the starboard side and the translation did the rest.

"First off, thank you for bringing us here." It said directing it's gaze to the alien species.
"Secondly, what myself...rrrgg, and Steve are suffering from are....part-in the same context. Mine is a sub-serviantal psy-feedback caused by some unknown anomally in Steve's brain wave centers. Probably reacting by some sub-molecular energy that was implanted into him. He has no control over it as far as I can tell. And judging by the incredious pain stabbing into my headrrgg. It's either a defense mechanisim, or it's something comple...argh...tly incomprehensible."

The wolf wavered and both ears pinned back. "I'm not quite sure what it is, But it's not only got me a bit.....Upset, considering that I was attempting to bond with Steve. But it's also got...."

The wolf broke off and shoved both front paws up to it's head. "rrgh....it's also quite clear that until this..."mechanisim" is shut off, I cannot either aid steven or remove this unknown anomally."

The wolf gasps at a fresh wave of pain and slumps forward against the muffler and then growls softly. "Steve....why didn't you mention something as important as this to us earlier?"

The wolf grunted at the pain. "Za ree, My pains won't stop, until we firrrgggh until we figure out a way to shut off his head pain."

The wolf dropped away from the console at that point clutching it's paws to it's head and attempting to create a block-out shield that would ....temporarily mute the pains in his head. But Gc wasn't having any luck so far.

Za Ree Om could only look at the wolf in confusion he was making about as much sense as a fish in a blender. Mammal brains and psychic collections were so different from his kind that the majority of what the wolf said was just not making Sense. However he did understand that Steve's Pain was the furballs pain. Guessing from that it seemed that perhaps having them in the same room could be a problem. Although it seemed the furball had peaked with its mind where it was not wanted again twice! Some How it knew Za Ree Oms name which he had never said, and that was worrisome, and now he had incapacitated the Human by poking through his mind. Slapping his arms against the walls of the hallway he turned and grabbed the wolfs legs by splitting his arms into four. He began to drag the wolf towards the feeding area of the ship.

Steve wasn't Steve anymore. At least the thing in control wasn't Steve anymore. "Defence strategy....sprutxzf...Defence...gjunt pzril..." He started speaking in English, but then it turned into gibberish.

The wolf reacted when it was grabbed so unexpectedly. It kicked twice violently and snarled. Something about Steve. It could feel the pulses in it's brain. Something trying to communicate directly through the cerebal cortex. Something that had to do with some kind of previous programming.
The wolf could only pre-recognize parts of it as it howled loudly when it was getting farther away from him.

As the wolf was dragged through the doors it suddenly became extremely distressed and in it's wake grasped the nearest thing it could reach with it's teeth. Which happened to be the door frame.

It held on and kicked and wiggled trying in vain attempts to make the alien understand that it was begining to vaguely decipher the mentalital coding or whatever it was. The wolf sent out a quick paniced thought-reaction to steve.

"Steve. It's an implant of some origin. I think the binary code has something to do with the number......six."

The wolf squirmed and kicked again trying to free itself.
"Steve, it's an internal radar implant, I cannot dis-engage it." the wolf winced and finally let go of the door frame, it's head a wrack of sudden pain.

Binary? How primitive, if the as of yet unknown power behind the changes to Steve's brain had heard that they would have been insulted. It was far more complex than the wolf thought. A sudden mental surge shot through the mental link that the wolf still had not had the good sense to break. The creature didn't seem to realise that HE was causing the problem here. There were no words spoken, but there was an imprinted message in the surge. "Get the **** out or next time I'll make your brain dribble out of your ears"

The wolf let out a loud howl of anguish and shook all over.
It snarled deeply and both eyes opened deeply. The deep eyes lost all focus as the wolf concentrated on that subliminal message.
"The ........bond......is........"

The wolf quickly used a moment's hesitation before anger shot through it's whole body causing it to cast a spell of teleportation where-in it returned a moment later curled at Steves feet with a loud snarl in it's throat.
"Complete!"

The wolf finally let go with it's mind. All traces of it, for the moment's notice, disappearing completely. But if Steven were clever enough, he'd notice the spiritual "Feel" of a close-by ally.

The wolf sagged to the floor and growled low in it's throat, not wishing to be touched by anything at the moment. It's only for-lorn reaction was that it stared up at Steven. As if either awaiting a command, or waiting to speak with a friend.

The wolven creature may have indeed believed the bond as it called it had been completed however that was far from the case. A good portion of what was flowing out of Steves mind was resonating with Za Ree Oms physical body causing what one could call a psychic distortion. What the wolf was actually feeling was its own psychic waves being reflected to it including the anticipation of pain, which was why it was being hurt and the lashing from Steves mind was basically building up inside the distortion field.

Za Ree Om had stopped moving when the field began to form, he had the wolf inside the feeding compartment, however it was by being between the psychic giants he had become the unwitting tuning fork. As the wolf stopped trying to gain full entry to Steves mind Za Ree Oms arms released the wolfs legs and the door to the compartment closed. The Wolf was lucky had Za Ree Om not been there its head would have exploded, like a watermelon with five pounds of plastic explosives packed into the center.

It was obvious that the energy that Steve had been bleeding off was far more than nearly any being could take in. It was an ocean pouring into a pond. As the energy looked for a way out Za Ree Om's body began to crystalize. His body expanded covering the hallway he had dragged the wolf through, and grown into the main compartment. only a few feet from the sleeping Jik'tor and Steven, before completely Solidifying. It could take hours if not days for that energy to be used up, and if the wolf tried it again it would surely die.

Genecidal gasped in lungfuls of air. Gc thougth to himself. "Can't.....go through that...particular.....bonding again.......at least.....not with steven.... too many variables......too much distortion and confusion......too much power. I barely held my mind together....Obviously, that won't be......the road to choose..."

The wolf staggered to wobbly paws and stumbled over to the processor near the top counter.

The wolf leaned up on it's hindpaws and touched a couple buttons with it's nose.
Two hot steaks shot out with the wolf lunging up to grab the first.
The second landed on a milosonic wave-holder.

The wolf tore into the first steak without any hints of stopping.
Within the next few minutes, it was finished devouring the first steak and growled and dashed over to the second steak, launching itself into a pounce and grabbing the steak in it's mouth.
It leaped off the counter-wave and landed on the ground greedily eating up it's meal.

When it was finished, Gc layed down on the ground keeping both ears tuned to the door as it fell towards sleep. It began as it drifted, to see that interesting alien creature in it's dream. Something "odd" about that alien felt somewhat....peaceful, somewhat....."warm and safe."

The wolf obviously....wanted to learn more either from it, or about it's kind.

When the wolf stopped trying to bond with Steve, the subconcious defensive response stopped. Steve did not immediately regain control, but he was at least aware that there was something he needed to regain control of. He was slumped against the wall of the coridoor, trying to focus of waking up. He knew what had happened, but he'd been a spectator. Saying that though he was about as thrilled about the idea of the wolf bonding with him as the thing that had taken control was. He wouldn't have resorted to trying to melt the thing's brain though.
