Ideas/Plots/Direction

The Raven of Dispersion

Atra'Lamia Darkbane
I was wondering, since we're all quite active and people are coming and interacting. Perhaps we should consider some kind of plot/global plot and establish a direction that we envision and picture for Ayenee.

For example Ayenee has always had a set of hierarchy. For example, does Varsinax still hold the throne, or is it another member of the Darkfire family?

Who is who in Ayenee? Our roles and established histories? If people want places of position or entitlement, this should be incorporated in their writing, and characters biographies. People who our characters "should" recognize-- a sense of stardom, I suppose.

Are there any do's and dont's in regards to powers/abilities/magicks?

And importantly, an actual timeline-- so that we're not posting in a manner that counteracts another's involvement and activities in Ayenee; or is it just a free-for-all?

I would love this to be discussed so that I am not walking on other's toes and upsetting the status quo.

BTW: I am getting to IC replies today. No work-- there is such a thing as divine kindness, lol.

No, just make up your mind man. XD. One minute retired, next minute not. Stick to it. Nothing about style, Varsinax hasn't done anything in Ayenee for years. Please point in the direction that states otherwise.

I just want a decent plot. I don't really care who or what, so long as they are willing to write it and it form something that can be built from and doesn't conflict with what others write. Castle Ayenee, has always belonged to Varsinax and the Darkfires.

Stepping stones, my good man....

What you should be asking yourself is if Dusa wants to kill his dad and take the throne or not lol.

Aw, shit. You ruined it. You know I'm easily distracted... nom nom.

World domination foiled with the mighty donut.

Well... we have a plot somewhat forming, that we'll have fun with regardless as we always have done. Not sure where it is heading because it is early days, but I do have a vision in mind that will move from betwixt two or three realms, it is something I have been mulling over and over in my mind since starting to write it.

Well for my little part of the world, I've sort of taken the reins of the Ayenee Tavern proper. Daelan is a born rebel, grown up and out of his rebellious phase (although anyone familiar with my arc right now will know what I mean when I say possibly growing back down into it!). So no delusions of grandeur or interest in ruling here.

As for magic, I have to admit to jumping into the deep end of the ocean. On a planet composed entirely of water. In a liquid-filled nebula. Frankly Time Magic is about as busted a power set as you can get short of actual godhood. But to be fair, where else are you gonna get to explore that level of mojo but a place like Ayenee..? :)

In terms of plot, I've got a pretty tidy little concept fit for a half dozen PC's at most... The ramifications could be pretty far-reaching, but I don't think I have the time to maintain a viable plot for more than that without short-changing the narrative. It's very timey-wimey, and that could get complicated. When I decided to dust off the old tavern I had no idea so many people were still lurking under the cobwebs! Which is great, but since the villain of my plot could essentially wipe Ayenee from existence it might mean other characters take an interest.

That said, out of character, I'd never ACTUALLY allow that to happen of course (not that I truly COULD, but you know what I mean). I was just looking for a valid plot hook, and given the power levels of many characters temporal erasure seemed a viable threat.

Ayenee role play started in taverns.

My thoughts exactly. It was dead quiet, I had a vague idea for what I thought might be a fun tale to share, and I figured, what better place to rev up the old engines than the Ayenee Tavern?

Also, to address the question of timelines in the OP, I've been vaguely playing as though it's about 20 years after Ayenee's heyday, since that mirrors reality loosely. But Daelan has seen a lot more years/gained a lot more mileage than 20 years. As a chronomancer it's easy to justify him being an old man despite the fact that he was 20-ish in Ayenee Prime, and it's only 20 years (ish) later.

Wormholes, realities where time moves differently, spells to age & de-age, all easily played into his story. I always assumed Ayenee was composed of multiple worlds in multiple timelines. It was that sort of arcane convergence that allowed future-tech military types to drink with medieval knights, super-saiyans, catgirls, and dinosaur cowboys. (Anyone else remember that guy? I can't recall his name, but the character concept was this saurian race that picked up human TV broadcasts from the 60's... This lizardman fell in love with shows like Bonanza and John Wayne movies, patterned his whole life after becoming a gunslinger, and somehow made his way to Ayenee. One of the best damn character concepts I've ever seen!).

Anyway, that's the assumption I've been making. In my case it's all extremely flexible. In the case of a purely martial character without the magical background, there's still the whacked-out basic weirdness of Ayenee itself to justify pretty much anything. I generally try to play from an angle of maximum versatility for the players around me. Let people do what they want. God knows they're gonna do it anyway, might as well not cause any plot holes if you can help it.

Which may be why I've been at it since February and we haven't even scratched the surface of any intentional plot in An Old Conjurer's Foolishness, buuuuut that's off-topic! :p

See...

I love when people want to question something you put into a post...

Like their imagination can't imagine what you just typed...

However, if this is Ayenee, and a wide majority of us remember taverns that included Batman, bounty hunters, knights, wizards, vampires, princesses, demons, Jedi, gunfighters, all at the same time...

Then clearly different realities, time periods, worlds... can and have found a magical way to clash on Ayenee.

As much as I have ever tried to keep my setting Medieval/Fantasy, whenever somebody brought in something beyond or outside that... I remembered the original Ayenee, grinned, then found a way to accept almost anything.

Raven from top to bottom
Ayenee's political landscape has always been a mess, think of how many characters named themselves kings, god-kings, omniverse destroying muppets ect. Hence in my view of Ayenee, there were always kingdoms at play and warring for dominance, however, the number of powers and territory always seemed to increase as such best case millions of kingdoms, worst case, billions of city states run from every political model possible. Such as the vast collection of Corporations at the heart of the Assassins war, and the Space war story lines. Those would not likely be viable under a one Varsinax government.

The who's who of Ayenee has always been in a position of flux. There are some that are well-ish known like Varsinax, but honestly, until I ran the forums I had heard the name vaguely but never much about him directly in an IC fashion. So to Mith the names vague and hints as overhearing it once or twice but beyond that it's like hearing someone say avocado. So for me, I always just go on the have I meet this person, and if I haven't, did anyone I ever knew mention them in character if not they are new and thus hardly worthy of drool. The bigger problem for me is the Darkfire.Darkthorn names sound way familiar but I cannot place why.

As for powers, abilities and magic/ks That is really a harder point to say there are do's and don'ts but more or more commonly accepted and less commonly accepted. For instance with there are magics one could say just " Pulls fireball from one's arse and throws at Varsinax" Technically if the person claims to have magic, or ate really spicy taco bell it's as valid as stabbing someone with a butter knife. The issue present is the only person who can determine what their character can or cannot do is the player of that character. For instance, I have a god character that is a MnM his abilities and powers are damn near limitless because I found it funny for mailed knights, super sajyins, and angels to fight and loose to a sentient piece of candy. The point is where there are constraints on any character they are made completely by the player or sometimes intense debate of theoretical physics based upon the loosest argumentation of magic in the real world.
Timelines now this one is a hell because it applies character subjective time overlayed upon the last 21 years of reality. So I'll just say free-for-all is pretty much the rule of operation generally speaking.

Mith didn't know Vars, but it's funny, because before this is all said and done, Mith might have to kill Vars. Now that would be a story to read and remember.

Alright never mind forget what I just wrote.

Ayenee is the embodiment of imagination, all fantasy, sci-fi, and anything else from imagination is at play. As such the constraints of powers, time and locations are always fluid. So if we were to remove everyone from Ayenee with the exception of Varsinax then the world would fall completely to his domination and it would hold to his ridged structure of how it was to operate until someone else joined the game. At that point, the world would shift to cooperative gameplay as they would have to rationalize their interactions within the scope of how they wished to change the world around each other and thus create the story, but lines of strength would be either agreed upon in concert or would by definition be unreconcilable. So after such interactions take place thousands upon thousands of times in open chat, and then maybe hundreds of times upon forums the world's agreements have become messy. Whereas time in the world of Ayenee has always been far more subjective than Einstein ever envisioned. As for histories or knowing them that is more based upon reasoning for any character to know something about let's continue to use my favorite example Varsinax. For all except maybe 3 of my mainly used character Varsinax is a null issue and has never been involved in any aspect of their lives. My Assassin might know of him depending on the kingdom Varsinax controls and who would be willing to pay to kill him, but there would need to be some level of rp through which I would gain more knowledge of Varsinax, and Nicotine would know him, and maybe NightmareSoul if he felt inclined to pay attention. Aside from them, however, Varsinax is a story from far away hardly muttered where most of my characters live in the world of Ayenee.

Mith Kill Varsinax, that seems like a bit of prognostication... Oh well ~Starts sharpening mithril shovels~

I remember the Blackthornes allying themselves with Amorceus who claimed to be the former Overlord of Ayenee, before being dethroned by Varsinax. He said that Varsinax had exiled the Blackthornes from Ayenee, so as Reese Blackthorne, I started trying to decide whose side the family stood on. Amorceus seemed like a decent fellow, I'm probably butchering his name. Eventually the person I had elected as co-guild leader, set up a meeting with Varsinax to squash the rumors of exile. I always just ran with whatever was thrown out there. I love ad-libbing plot from what is presented, cause then even I have no idea where it headed sometimes. Such as the temporal mage Daelan, last major rp I did with Eseer he was busting down the doors of city of Chronos to become a time master, but then I never finished the story after reaching past midpoint with it. Since Daelan was tampering with temporal magic, I was like hmmm, it would be interesting to tie up that old storyline and intro into this storyline with that concept.
