Hunt the Great Hellwyrm

Asana lifted his hand holding the dagger and the Arrow high into the air to make sure the wet tips would be noticed by Baros.

(sorry guys lifes gone to well shit...)

"We need to get the spell cast on the arrow!" Baros shouted and pulled out a scroll he'd earlier tucked into his belt. Then he ran over to Asana and scratched a circle in the dirt with the point of his sword. "Put it there" He pointed to the middle of the circle.

Meanwhile the beast opted once more for brute force, showing more guile than to simply pursist with one thing for too long. It lurched upwards and then kicked into a dive at Fang.

Fang let the dive come, and showed no signs of doing anything needed to avoid being struck by the attempt. But he was more than ready for it, in truth. The Hellwyrm had made a huge mistake in using mental energies against Fang. The monster's mind had been opened to the elder dragon, and Fang saw it for what it really was. Not only that, but he now knew precisely how to get back in to the mind of the hellish creature.

Fang's eyes would flash once, and only once. The Hellwyrm would find itself surrounded in all possible directions by several members of the Elder Council. At the righthand side of each council member was one of the Omniclad, an elite family of angelic warriors, two dozen in all. Each of them held a weapon similar in appearance to SevenStars. The dragons all roared at the same time, sending a sonic wave of force directed inward to the center of the sphere they formed with their own bodies, a concussive blow for even the most hearty of creatures. Simultaneously the angels fired massive blasts from their weapons, and the Hellwyrm would find the very core of his being assaulted by holy energy.

Running over Asana pulled the knife free of the twine and set the arrow into the circle as indicated his eyes narrowing upon the circle before breaking away and looking at the two beasts in the sky

The massive barrage of powers struck at once and the beasts scales vaporised. The moment its blood made contact with the air their was a banshee like wail as the sky became an inferno of hellfire and the black smouldering shape of the beast reformed in a less defined, but certainly more menacing form. It lashed out metally at those nearest, and launched itself with jaws wide at one of the angels.

"By the gods." Baros exclaimed. "Freehaven was but a prelude to what that thing could do." Baros shook his head and crouched down by the arrow. He took from his belt a pouch and from it sprinkled a dust of ground rubys and emeralds; not a cheap spell by any stretch. As he did he chanted the words written upon the scroll and the dust fizzed as it was drawn into the blood coated arrow.

Fang nodded his head and his eyes flashed from yellow back to red and the illusion dispersed as the Hellwyrm struck out. The only creature left in the massive circle of beings that had done such terrible damage to the Hellwyrm was Fang holding SevenStars. This was not the first time Fang had used his extreme masterful command over mental powers to project a complex illusion that covered all the senses. Several times in the past, Fang had killed foes without actually doing any real damage to them, simply because they made the same mistake the Hellwyrm had made, and left a gateway to their mind open. This time was only different because the blast, at least in part, had been real. SevenStars had fired at the monster, it was the complexity of the illusion that made the creature think it was so much worse.

Another advent to having access to the monster's mind, was that Fang was able to identify the language it spoke. The ancient chaotic language was known only by the most antediluvian of demonic creatures. But, with Fang having the whole of the elder council available to translate for him, he could speak it fluently. He knew it would confuse the two-leggers, but now that he had the ability to do so, he was forced by the old ways to give the monster a warning, less he be banned from the council.

~"I, too, have many more surprises, beast. This will be your only warning. Return to the demonic realm from whence you came and no more harm shall befall you."~

Asana stood transfixed his eyes narrowed upon the magic work that Baros was working upon. His ears on the other hand were paying attention to the sounds of battle, although with so much noise from the attacks, and wings beating upon the air, sound was a luxury this battle did not offer in high definition. Asana could see that Baros was speaking but the sound was drowned out by the noise of the massive beasts. Turning his head to the left he spat out some of the dust that had been acquired since the take off of the two beasts.

Baros continued to incant the spell, the dust first coating the arrow head and then slowly sliding over the surface to form roughly defined arcane symbols. As he spoke they became clearer until there was a crackling of electricity in the air and the temperature dropped to that of a cold winters day. Baros bent down and very carefully picked up the arrow by its shaft before offering it to Asana. The symbols on its head seemed to flicker and the edges of the arrow seemed hard to place as if the arrow was only partly in this plane. "We'll need to get that thing back down in range." He said.

The beast let out another deafening roar. No reply was given to Fang's demands. It simply turned in the air and hurled itself at the dragon, its foreclaws moving too fast for the human eye to even see, and with enough force to split a mountain. Towards Fangs throat they went, and a massive spew of smoky abyssal foulness was forced from its maw to disguise the blow.

Though he was frightfully good at it, Fang despised being the consumate warrior. So many times in the past he had attempted to change his life so that it was a peaceful one. He had tried to reject every one of his titles and spend his existence in harmony. But the continual threat to everyone and everything around him screamed for help, a scream that was heard clear and strong by the guardian nature of the ancient dragon. Even so, he still hated all the conflict that seemed to be eternally necessary. But there were times, however few they may have been, when he was more than happy to take part in the mandatory combat that his guardianship called for. This was one of those times. He was actually almost happy the Hellwyrm had ignored the warning, and let the excitement that always came with battle wash over him.

While it wasn't a bad tactic to attempt to use some sort of concealment for an attack, it was amateur at best to expect a creature of Fang's experience to allow such a maneuver to be effective. Fang had created the false holy attackers before the Hellwyrm had reached the barrier he'd previously erected for a reason, and this was it. Fang had seen that the creature could only focus on the task at hand. Be it intentional or unintentional, it would most likely have forgotten about it, leaving it to be charging full force into a barrier of psionic energy. Harmful though it likely was not, it was a barrier nonetheless. To add to Fang's good fortune, the beast had to be concentrating extremely hard to get the smoky substance out in front of it far enough to conceal it's claw at the speed it was traveling. Plus, its own vision would be obscured, leaving Fang the opportunity to simply halt himself from being held in the air long enough to drop a good distance below the intended target area of the Hellwyrm.

He heard Baros' words to Asana, and he wanted to see what these two-leggers could do.

Asana looked at the arrow his eyes transfixed upon its ethereal aspects for but a moment before his arm raised and his fingers curled round the shaft of the arrow. Licking his lips he suddenly felt out of his depth for a moment. As if something had just occurred to him. He had the bow with him before he made his dash to get the beasts blood, but where was it now. Casting his eyes down, he expected to see the bow dangling from his left shoulder, but it was not there. His mind started to race, back to when he had snuck around the tree line with the bow and arrows. The sudden appearance of that drow, and his discarding of everything handy except for the arrow, the twine and the dagger. Turning on his heel he spun round looking towards where he had stabbed the beast, and could almost watch himself running towards it as he followed his path backward spotting the bow upon the ground. " Warn me if it comes this way " He yelled over the din of battle to Baros as he started to run towards the bow.

Baros nodded to Asana and then looked up in shock as there was an echoing thundrous crash caused by the beast slamming clean through Fang's barrier. "By the gods what is this thing?" Baros exclaimed.

The beast missed Fang of course, but it looked like it could continue like this for a hundred years. It turned in the air, let out a roar and sent three attacks at fang at once. The first a massive torrent of hellish bile, abyssal fire and boiling acid. The second a wave of uncrafted, hardly subtle and frankly obscene rage focussed through what psychic talents the beast possessed. The third, the beast itself. Crashing downwards in a lightning fast dive as the other two paths of violence surged before it.

The elder dragon had grown tired of playing cat and mouse. He had never been one to enjoy drawing out a fight any longer than necessary, but the fact that he was so curious about what the other two had planned forced him to do just that. Still, his patience was wearing thin. Some of the most powerful creatures in existence had granted him abilities to go along with his distinguished positions, and with the exception of a select few of his closest allies and friends, none knew the full extent of his capabilities. He'd included in his warning to the monster that he had further surprises at his disposal, and now he decided to reveal one of his cards.

As he stared full on at the oncoming attack, he let himself fall until he knew they would be in range of any attack Baros and Asana could cook up. Then, using a combination of elemental and psionic energy, stood, not hovered, in mid air. There he stared into the oncoming eyes of the Hellwyrm as the other attacks came.

The bile mixture hit, dead on target as intended. His centuries spent in close connection with the Omniclad Angels had been what ultimately resulted in his being granted immunity from hellish powers. He had spent three decades trapped within the heart of the abyss itself, and without SevenStars to guide the way out, had been forced to adapt to the environment and ultimately learn to focus the energy of the abyss in order to find the way out. The fire included in the Hellwyrm's attack scorched the air around it, but cooled instantly upon contact with the dragon's hide. The acid, though an offshoot of earthen powers, was still elemental in origin, and thus ineffective against any elder dragon, who had immunity to anything elemental.

The emotional attack was invisible to the sense of sight, but easily visible to one who had control over mental powers. Fang did nothing aside from close his mind and waited for the attack to hit. With the mastery over mental forces he held, when his mind was closed, not even beings composed of psychic energy could break through, and this attack was no different. Finally, there was the Hellwyrm itself, and Fang knew exactly how he would deal with that. He leaned back, placing most of his weight on his back legs, and shoved SevenStars forward. If the beast continued, it would find itself impaled on a weapon that focused the energy of the seven arch angels, being held up by a claw that was held in place by the same energy combination that held Fang to the air as if it were bedrock. If it pulled up, it would have a chance to contemplate what manner of being it faced who could withstand such attacks without so much as flinching.

Asana continued to run, as he heard Baros say something. Hearing the sound Asana hit the ground and rolled to the left before realizing nothing was happening and looked up seeing the attacks hitting Fang. His eyes narrowed once again before he jumped to his feet and continued the lap towards the bow. Picking up the bow in his left hand he moved forward a bit moving to stand beneath the battle. As he fitting the arrow he looked up the Hellwyrm was moving to quickly to get perfect aim at this distance but maybe the Fang would stop it in mid flight long enough to get the aim perfect.

Baros stood and watched, mouth hanging open, unable to comprehend.

The beast flew without hesitation and let itself strike the blade first, opening a massive wound in its chest that closed a moment later. It clawed and clawed and fang and beat its wings to try and drive the dragon into the ground.

Fang's face held no expression as his one arm continued to hold the blade outstretched just as it had been before the monster struck. The near-instant healing of the wound had been unexpected, but with each passing moment, Fang recieved more and more information about the creature he now faced.

As the force of wind pushed down against Fang and the invisible barrier on which he stood, his eyes flashed through an array of colors. The force of wind was bent and collected more and more underneath the claws of the elder dragon. The barrier became more and more dense, and gradually grew in size. The more the Hellwyrm tried to force Fang down, the more they would lift higher into the sky.

As the claws of the creature scratched at Fang's scales, he concentrated on the holy energy of SevenStars. The blade manipulated it's own size and shape. It grew in length, shooting out the back of the creature. The end of the weapon then split into four pieces and folded inward, trapping the Hellwyrm against Fang's body. Fang then spoke audibly in the demonic language he knew the monster would understand. "These scales have been regrown far too many times for your efforts to be able to get through them. You are only making them stronger. Know that this fight is not over. I now have the means to find you. When you are banished from this plane, I will ensure what little life you have is extinguished."

He then looked over at Asana and Baros and spoke in the common language they had been using. "Whenever you are ready, two-leggers."

Asana looked up at the two beasts his eyes narrowing down the shaft of the arrow as he took aim grumbling something about dragonic arrogance. Pulling back against the bwo string he felt the fletch of the arrow snugly settled around the string held firmly by his index and middle fingers as he kept his eye down the shaft at his quarry. Sticking his tongue out of the comer of his mouth partly he released the string as the arrow took flight at its mark.

The beast's rage boiled and exploded in a roar or sound and psychic chaos. Baros dropped to his knees and clutched his head as waves of anger and menace filled the air. The arrow flew true, the magic that was folded through it seemed to steer it through the air as it unerringly sought its target. It flew up, above the pair of flying creatures, locked in their cataclysmic duel, and then dropped.

Its needle point struck the back of the beast and drove through the already healing wound. Like a bloodhound it sniffed out something invisible to the eye or to any senses, but then it struck. The thread of power anchoring the beast to the material plane was snipped and the arrow disintegrated in that instant. Its purpose served. Its task completed.

The beast exploded with fire and darkness. A great wind shot out, flattening Baros to the ground, and most likely Asana too. Trees were uprooted and the ground was scorched. An echoing roar was the beast's last mark on this plane. Fang as the heart of the blast would be hit the hardest, but the ancient dragon could likely survive it.

Fang had seen many interplanar creatures forced back to their home, or prison, whichever the case may have been. Still, every time, the result was different. Some simply fizzled out of this plane. Others vaporized anything within ten miles of where they had been standing. The worst he had seen had been from the forced departure of one of the smallest and meekest creatures in existence, a spirit pixy. That one had nearly killed him, and he wasn't even the one to cast the spell that sent it away.

His concentration had been on staying in place against being pushed down, not back. As the force of the wind that came from the Hellwyrm struck, he was thrown backward. He had to drop his concentration from the barrier as he attempted to correct himself, already knowing what the end result would be. The massive block of air and psychic energy exploded back upon the one who'd created it. As the psychic energy screamed back to his mind, he had time for one last trick. There was an additional flash and another roar as the form of the giant dragon was reduced, once more, to that of the armored human. Then, the psychic power struck it's source full force, and the ancient creature lost consciousness for a moment.

He woke only moments later after he'd slid nearly the full length of his draconic body along the ground, mentally thanking the enchantments on his armor as he slowly stood, looking more like a dirty beggar who'd stolen a set of armor than a proud warrior. He slinked over to Baros and Asana slowly, using a great amount of effort to put SevenStars back in it's sheath at his side as he moved.

Asana was indeed flattened to the earth with the blast. His eyes narrowed tightly to prevent dust from blinding him as he groaned against the earth his wings pulled tightly against his back to prevent him from flying off. As the gust died down he yelled over to Baros " Is it gone ? Or did it expel a different noxious gas ? " He said with a hint of a smirk.

"I think you did it. We did it." Baros coughed as he rolled onto his front and then slowly and dizzily climbed to his feet. He looked up to the smoke filled sky and watches as the last of the strong winds cleared the path to the blueness above.

"Its gone. I can't see it anywhere."
