Rivaen Eitan stood in front of the massive arched transparent pane that looked out over the sea of skyscrapers, flashy neon advertisements, and the night skyline of the Ayenee Capital. The young man couldn't help the last time he had been on Ayenee. He had laid on the floor in front of that window with a coloring book and crayons while his father had completed plans for an attempt to take back Noria when it was first invaded by the Craethel. Everything had changed, Noria had been destroyed, and he was no longer a boy with innocent eyes towards the universe or the horrors of war; the niranium sigils that formed an echelon across his collar were proof of that. He ran his fingers back through the platinum white short buzzed hair, the slender points twitched as his fingers brushed past.

All that was is no more. There was something off about Ayenee; not that Rivaen had a poor opinion of the world or the fact that the Norian settlement at Surrune had not taken part in the war, that was strategy and survival. It felt too clean, too wondrous for its own good. Maybe he just was not used to being safe. In the aftermath, there had been only confusion. A list of his siblings and Ysi scrabbled over what they left behind. The Laeyrian Commonwealth had made apologies for their cooperation with the forces of Morggho, their bedding with the Craethel, Quell, and other tribes that had invaded. How much was an apology worth? A billion? eight trillion? Even to him, the numbers were just numbers now. The tangible part was empty chairs and lost voices.

As the raindrops pattered against the pane, a soft whimper came from the bassinet that was next to the desk, and Rivaen turned around and gazed towards the slowly rocking bed where his son laid. He couldn't help but think back on the argument that he had with his parents when he and Haeun had gotten together. Such childish things seemed so unimportant now; he picked the young boy from his cradle and held him against his shoulder and lightly bounced in his step as the baby cried. The office was dark; the shadows clung to the bookshelves and museum-like display cases. "Shhh Icero...shhh, don't worry they will find her...your grandfather promised," he said.

Kore stopped in front of the door debating if now was the right time to enter. Hooking the thumbs of the gloved hands into the rim of her belt she stared at the door. Things seemed to be ever changing with very little resemblance of what was remaining. She had never felt comfortable planetside and longed to return to her a ship even if her own was still lost in the frey. Reaching up she used her single exposed finger to tuck her hair behind her ear a few loose strands hanging about her face before returning to her belt.

A quite gust of breath escaped her lips in the form of a sigh as she moved forward. The doors opening to reveal Rivaen holding his son. The fussing child immediately made her wish she had waited a bit longer before entering. She had never considered the idea of having children as anything more than a necessity for regrowth. They always made her nervous, their forms always more fragile than her own, it caused this sense of unease that she just couldn't seem to shake. It seemed like they were drawn to the bright candy color of her hair. Adrins daughter Jae had always loved to play with her hair, the child had gotten quite skilled at braiding it as well as the many other hairstyles the child could come up with.

Kore made her way over to him looking out the window at the city. " I still prefer the haul of a ship to this view noone can change my mind there." She looked at Rivaen from the corner of her eye watching him console the child in his arms. "No word yet?" The tips of her rather short ears twitching a bit as the infant cried.

Rivaen shook his head slowly. He forced a quick smile and then walked over and laid Icero back in the bassinet "Nothing since the last load of refugees picked up from Laeyria. They could just be in VT, I've sent Fallion back to see if it is just a communications problem," he said as he placed the small blanket over his son. "You and me both, on the view, that is. I was born in space and that is my one true calling. If it was not for Icero, I would be on the front lines; parenthood changes everything. The front is not a place for a baby," he replied to her comment about the window view. He moved back behind his father's desk and sat in the chair. He also had the mind hive raise the lighting level by twenty percent.

"Any word from my grandparents?" Rivaen asked as a bright flash of lightning rolled across the dark clouds of the night sky outside the window. This is what conversations had become now? How morbid, he thought. They once ruled the star-filled expanses, and now they combed them for what it left, which was not much after Morggho's forces had ravaged their worlds.

The corners of Kores mouth pulled downward at the lack of news from all fronts. She turned away from the window walking over to where he sat. "Children are our future. Their safety and upbringing are top priority if we wish to save ourselves." She reached out her hand laying it on his shoulder. She wanted to reassure him to tell him that everything would turn out fine but deep in her stomach she felt it was crueler to give a person hope than to let them process the risks that lay ahead. "No I haven't heard from them either. I pray to Unya they return safely."

She gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze before removing her hand. She took a seat looking at him. "No matter the outcome or what news we receive I have faith that we can get threw this." Her attempt at reassuring him fell flat as always. She was never much of a people person it was one of the reasons she got along so well with Adrin. She opened her mouth to ask about the weather but closed it once again. She knew better than to use such a common method to change the topic. Instead she let the silence creep in waiting for him to dictate the direction of their conversation.

Outside of the Norian Embassy
Ayenee Capital City, Ayenee Prime.

The rain that splashed across his face hid the tears he had shed, it washed away the streaks and the redness of his eyes thankfully and made it easier to hide the emotions that screamed in his head. Eyes turned to the sky, or at least up the wall of windows that housed the Norian embassy to where he was sure his task lay. It was never a good task, never one that was fun, but it was one he knew he had to fulfill. Fingers found the silvered hair as matching eyes shut for a moment before they opened, focused on the ground before him. This wasn't something he had been looking forward to, far from it as he felt the pain of loss in the news he had to deliver, yet he knew who he had to bring it to would feel it so much worse. The scuff of his boots eventually took him to the interior of the embassy where for lack of a better description, he stood in the foyer and looked like a dripping wet dog that had been enjoying the rain far to much.

Eyes went to the man as people began to step closer as if to protest his being there until they saw just who they approached. The sharp jawline, the piercing silver eyes, the short shorn hair along the sides of the head with the longer hair on the top that was usually slicked back, yet now lay splattered across his face... Fallion Eitan stood before them and quickly enough the employees of the embassy backed off. Even as he stepped through the foyer into the lobby of the embassy itself he ignored the squelching noise of his boots as he strode through the rooms to the elevators that would take him to the higher levels. He wasn't sure just who else was there, who else had beat him here, but he doubted any had the news he did. With the soft ding of each floor he passed on his journey upward Fallion couldn't help but feel the growing pit of dread form in his stomach. Fingers pinched the bridge of his nose in an attempt to allieviate the growing headache, and each floor he rose a growing puddle of water formed at his feet in the elevator until finally a louder ding echoed in the cramped compartment. The doors slid open to reveal the hallway which squishing boot falls found him headed down until he stood before the door where Kore and Rivaen found themselves at.

As he stepped inside, the somber air of the room wouldn't brighten with his arrival. With the look of a drowned rat, Fallion's eyes traveled back and forth from Rivaen to Kore, then back to Rivaen. He let out a small sigh as he stepped fully into the room, a trail of water behind him as he did before he tried his best to slick his hair back. Water pushed from the locks rushed down his back and gave him an involuntary shiver as it passed under his clothes, but eventually silvered eyes locked on Rivaen. Nothing on his countenance showed anything remotely hopeful as he held the man's gaze for a few moments before he broke down and looked away.

"I'm sorry..." Was all the man could muster up, his voice soft spoken as the implications of his apology hung in the air like an executioner's axe.

Rivaen looked at his Uncle and slowly stood up from the chair behind the desk. His crystalline blue eyes fell behind his eyelids as the apologetic words came from his Uncle's mouth. He felt as if he could not speak, like someone had sucked the air from the room. He looked down towards Icero. The baby had fallen back asleep and was completely unaware as to the fact his entire life had just changed in an instant. Rivaen knew she had no IDE; there was no bringing her back, at least through those means. He slid back down into the chair. His mind rushed with what was an endless stream of helplessness - Icero risked being raised as he was now, without the active role of his mother. Rivaen stared forwards, unsure of what to say to Kore and Fallion.

The dark recesses of the office behind Rivaen's chair distorted and moved as Rin made herself known. The lurking Sol'Aester's presence would suddenly register to the members of her Ysi that had gathered to hear this unfortunate news. This was another matter, Haeun was her only child and now she had been inexcusably lost within the madness of this war that was no longer a war; this tale of the tragedy had woven into something of a nightmare now. Her lithe form, a subtle adaptation from Norian to Starstryder, one of the first that had taken the body out of necessity as her own life had weighed into the balance thanks to the Craethel. A low whisper of scale upon the exoskeletal scale, as they lifted from the surface at the back of her more pronounced pointed ears and settled back down flat. "Another life lost, another daughter of Noria taken. My poor sweet daughter..." she whispered quietly as her claw-like digits metamorphosed into normal form as they settled tenderly upon the shoulder of Rivaen. She closed closer to the back of Rivaen's chair, the glossy black synthetic fabric of her tactical bodysuit adjusted to her movements as she came more into the light, her waist-length jet black hair like a cape as it laid upon her back.

The luminescent blue ocular apertures of her eyes narrowed as they settled upon the form of Kore as she spoke, "I think it is time the Imperial Bloc faced reality, dear. We will not win, we need to pluck what we have left from Chrystalis Unvorsum and conceded to the truth. Our homeworlds are gone, every haven we've found has turned into a living torment of false promises and illusions. It is time New Noria became a reality and we make this about survival." She looked at Fallion and addressed him directly, "You may be sorry, Fallion, but sorry will no longer cut it. It's time to accept the truth now and it will be by the bitter spoonful." Her hand squeezed Rivaen's shoulder just a little tighter. "We're here for you...your Ysi is here for you," she said more quietly.

The news hit Kore hard in the gut. Another family torn apart by these people who have no understanding of suffering. Her fists clenched tightly in her lap as she began to seethe with anger and resentment. Not only for what Rivaen was experiencing but also the thoughts of what might be delaying word from Adrin and Kendra.

It didn't surprise her to see Rin appear seemingly out of thin air. Her jaw having been subconsciously clenched released as she began to speak. "I can't agree with you more. This fight will never end not till every last one of us is wiped out. The illusion that we may one day get back what we have lost has us running in circles attempting to save what we already lost. Its time everyone was on the same page and we let go of the hope that things will return to as they were in the start. We must let go of the Dreams of the past and move forward or their wont be a future." She let out a long quiet sigh as she released her hands. Her eyes hadn't left Rivaen at this point she looked up at Rin. The young woman still looked similar to her old form but something gave off a more deadly beautiful feeling. She had watched her grow up, all of them actually. Her eyes made their way to Fallion and the pain on his face and the faint discoloring around his eyes told the story of tears. She hated to see these children suffer, it always bothered her. She fought the urge to reach out to them and take away the pain. Right now as much as she hated it they needed that pain, she needed them to feel not to be enveloped in the effects of her taint. She quickly clasped her hands together reluctantly returning her gaze away from the boy and back to Rin and Rivaen. " What do you propose we do?"

The creak of leather filtered through the room as hands were balled into tight fists. His eyes bore down on Rin for a moment as a war of emotions and words raged inside of Fallion's head. His shouldered bunched and tensed as every muscle in his body began to coil as if to lash out at the woman that so callously spoke to him about his apology. Yet Fallion... Rather than attack, he seemed to simply deflate. The tension left his body and his shoulders sagged down, head hung a little before he found a chair at the table and sat in it heavily. The man had been run ragged the past few weeks with work, and with finding Haeun, then the news he had to deliver. Not to mention the fate their people seemed to be spiraling toward... Hands once balled in anger were soon opened and used to hold up a head to heavy to stay upright with worry.

Fallion felt tired, so tired of fighting, of running, of losing. He just wanted it to be over and done with, he wanted to be able to relax for even a little, yet he knew he had no time just then. He listened to the others as they spoke and let them begin to plan, to scheme and plot. He had lost his taste for such things as of late he had realized recently and instead found the carrying out of orders to be more his speed, yet those orders recently had devolved to "Fight, flee, or find what is left..." and that made his nights far to long and far to heart breaking.

So silently he sat there, attentive to their words, yet for the time being offering little in return.
