The Ayenee Wiki

Lowthor

Idea Man
Right then, now that we're up and running we can work out what we want to do about the idea of a Wiki for character profiles etc. The Media Wiki software that Wikipedia uses is free, and although I'm not fully sure about the installation, I don't think it'd be too hard. We have php, and most servers allow SQL right?

If thats not an option then there's something called Tiddlywiki thats supposed to be easier to set up.

And suddenly I remember why I shouldn't delete threads where we kept our ideas for what to do after completion of the boards.

If I recall properly we needed a CMS thing and then a wikisystem. So then we have two things and two tech gurus. Coincidence ? I think not. Although there was also the Spell check.

So three problems, as I recall Ceros dumped the spell check program to SJ, so that means the Wiki, or The CMS programs need to be gotten to, but which one is more important ?

I'd say the Wiki. The CMS was for webspace, and the webspce would only be needed for people who can't fit their stuff in the wiki. Ceros already hooked me up with webspace, so it can already be done.

Hmmm, I believe when it was discussed earlier we could only get about 6 or so individual hostings for members with out the CMS. IF that is true then we still need it as for the wiki, yes it can hold the bulk of the information. So I suppose the Wiki first the CMS second.

*goes back and edits it to "when I'm not drunk on a weekend, it will be done"*

Seriously though, forgot about the Wiki. I will look into setting one up. Mith, hit me up later on pager.

*ahem*

If you will kindly direct your attention to the Toplist link at the top of the forums, you will see a new link for the Ayenee Wiki.

Its new and wonderful, and you can add all sorts of fabulous information to it. Search for something, and if you don't find it, you will find that you can create a new page for that something.

You must be logged in with your forum username/password to make edits to the site.

Its not exactly pretty yet, but its functional. Go to it.

So there is a problem with session tracking, apparently. I've disabled the ability to use your forum name on login, but you can still make any changes you desire. It just won't track that you were the one who made the edit. Soon as I get the session thing fixed (probably sunday), i'll restore that feature.

Ok, all fixed. Go nuts guys.

Ok, I've restored as many of the old articles as I found in the archives, but sadly, many of them seem to be lost to the annals of time.

I did not do any formatting, or real in depth labor with this. Hopefully, you guys can lend a hand with that, by browsing through the page of 'recent changes' and look at the pages I've created, and edit them to be more appealing. A Wiki is a community effort, and everyone should be lending a hand.

What I'm going to be working on in the next few days for this is creating templates for everyone to use for categories of information.

Characters, Clans, Players are the ones I know I'll be making right now.

If you've got suggestions about these templates, or others, please do let me know.

Character:
Name, Race, Age, Appearance, History, Powers, Posessions.

Clan:
Name, Leader(s), Members, History, Home Location/Base?, Purpose?

Player:
RL Name, Identity, Age, Location, Interests, Date Joined Ayenee

I do not believe the Wiki ever got completed or implemented. However I will see if I can find it.

I think the idea might still be viable, and it might generate more interest, but the word would need to be spread to all far and wide as a means of not just having the wiki but also immortalizing the character creations that made Ayenee a legend.

Do you think we should use Dokuwiki like I do on Star Army? It's a decent software and I'm very familiar with it.

Honestly I have never seen Dokuwiki, so I have no valid frame of reference presently, but if you know how to make it sing like a mermaid being eaten by a dragon, I say go with it.

Well it looks pretty straightforward, which is good. I know I'm not exactly a fan of centered links but maybe theres something for me to play around on there like a monkey with a tazer. I give my ascent now if other people would like to speak up so I don't feel like I'm making Wes do all this work on my whim that'd be splendid....
