The Awakening

Haven given all the aid that she could, the feline moved back and away from the false god and left him to the doom he had created for himself. She glanced left then right, to see her fallen companions, their life force already spent, there was nothing she could do for them. She watched the transfer of the glowing blade, then felt the call of Jezabel, and had only enough time to send Khan one thought...

"Do not grasp it with bared hand!!"

The she was distracted, by a smell of great familiarity, a voice that smoothed her ruffled fur. Turning she found herself a few feet from an old friend... Said with a feline grin.

"Leave it to you to show up when the first battle is already done!"

The small feline vanished from the ground to reappear sitting atop the horses neck, peering closely at its rider.

"If they only saw what I see, everyone would flee!...And you attract trouble just as much as I do old friend!"

Fang's head turned to the cat, to more directly acknowledge her presence. All too often his lack of emotional display was mistaken for arrogance or uncaring. Thankfully she knew better.

"I suppose you are correct. Likely on both counts." He dismounted from the winged unicorn and patted the beast on the side.

The alicorn turned his gaze to the man, and held that position briefly. Fang nodded and gestured to the eastern horizon. "By all means, my friend. Thank you, again, for the help."

He took a few steps back and looked to the direction of Amenophis, again. "Would you mind if we touched minds for a moment? I would rather not take the time necessary to hear the verbal explaination of what has been going on."

Of course, they were both well aware that he didn't actually need permission to enter her mind. But, it was easier with permission, and the chance for his long-time friend to be hurt in the process was eliminated when the link was planned.

He didn't yet know exactly what it was, but he knew that what he felt around the area was not simply the energy signature of one overly anxious would-be conqueror. Amenophis may be the closest threat, but he wasn't, even remotely, the most dangerous. A link with Swish would answer any questions he could possibly pose. Plus, it had been a long time since they'd seen each other. It would be interesting to see what the old cat had been up to.

The sword's siren song sang softly in Khan's ears. A trembling hand slowly reached for the sword until a voice advised him to not touch flesh to the handle. A good horseman always had gloves... (Yes, he put on gloves and took the blade in hand)

Duvessa lay broken near the main gates of Ironhold. As King Amenophis passed her by, he did not even bother to look at her. "M-Master..." she called to him. Some stopped to aid her, but were stopped by the Raven King's command.

"Leave her."

The large gates closed behind them with a thunderclap and Ironhold itself began to tremble. As King Amenophis staggered to his throne and collapsed upon it, he sighed in deep relief. He could feel himself drawing his strength once more. Perhaps he had been hasty to leave the throne so quickly...

The citadel continued to rumble until the mountain underneath it began to grow. What was once a low lying citadel began to grow into a massive tower. The valley itself began quake, the ground splitting. Karma and her loyal cousins rode swiftly through the valley, sweeping Khan up on the way.

Duvessa remained there in the snow, cold and alone. That was, until a red winged raven landed on her chest. It's sickly green eyes peered into hers. She gasped at the severed finger in it's beak.

"You betraaayed me..."

Duvessa winced, tears welling up in her eyes. Her flesh was charred, her bones broken from the fall and here upon her chest, stood the essence of the man she did indeed betray. "H-help me...Xanatos..."

The raven canted it's head. "Heeelp you? After your lies...your deceit...you KNEW what would happen. You used me as a sacrifice...but, no matter...your fate is sealed..."

The bird then flew away and Duvessa closed her eyes; perhaps for the last time...

Somewhere in a town far away, a scrap of paper lands at the feet of a person unknown:

Ancient magics have reawakened. For in this land thought long forsaken by hope, something shimmers beyond the veil. From his tower, The Raven King watches the world with a troubled brow. His fingers perhaps still caress the wound given to him by a mysterious stranger, a reminder of his hubris. Patches of land once scorched are returning to life. So weep not for the passing of our cousins. We who remain will persevere. We will carry on. And when we are gone, the world will never forget our names. Our battle was perhaps the first, but I know it will not be the last...

"Yes, yes, be my guest! Link and learn...But then can we please find some where comfortable to sit and rest...Even my whiskers are tired!"

Before the linking could take place, the echo of Duvessa's words echoed in the felines mind. At first it drew forth the start of a smile, but just as quickly the smile faded as she remembered The Lady Darkness and her fondness for females like her...Betrayers, vile, evil, users of love tell ones heart either froze or was crushed to dust. Swish hoped that unlike Chesh, who's mind was usually attuned with her own, Maul's mind could not hear the woman's cry, meaning that the Lady Dark still slept in the heart of the Grey.

The eyes of the elder would shift from their crimson glow to a yellow tinted one. In a fraction of a second his mind was connected with hers. He shared a bit about what he'd been doing, and learned what he needed about the events around Ayenee, plus some of what she'd been doing as well.

He always preferred the mental communication method. Not only did it make the participants much closer to each other, but it was far more efficient. He sensed her anxiety and detected the lingering sensation of Duvessa's words. So, as he let go of the connection with her mind, he left behind a very intentional gift, a sense of calm.

As his connection faded, his eyes returned to their normal red glow. "Why the other elders could not give me the information about the Grey I do not know. But thank you, my friend. That was quite helpful."

He reached and lifted her off the back of the alicorn, then nodded to his equine companion as it bounded to the sky.

Turning his attention back to Swish, he spoke to her as he had when they first met. "Now, old friend. Where did you wish to go?"

The feline did not mind being petted now and then, or even held, she knew that what people saw was a cat, often forgetting she was so much more. She also knew that in times of dispare and stress, her forum could bring about a calmness to one who needed it. Neither of these things was the case with him, she knew he would pluck her up and let her ride, a shoulder, a head or in his arms, it made no difference. So feeling so much calmer she settled into his grip with ease and yawned before speaking.

Eventually we need to reach the high tower...but for now any where that food can be found and a spot to rest will do...I've no *She yawned again, fighting to keep her eyes open* ...energy to go popping in and out right now, a wee bit drained...*She lost the battle and her eyes closed, mumbling one last thought*...Damn birds, never anything good comes from meeting one of....Zzzzz

As he shifted the cat to his left arm and held her there, his head turned to the tower, and the easily detected energy signature coming from Amenophis. "Yet another false king that would try to claim this world as his own. I will deal with you in time, imposter. But you are neither the reason I was sent, nor enough of a threat to warrant me delaying my purpose for coming back here."

For now, Fang knew exactly where he would go. From what he learned of The Grey from Swish, it was limited depending on the environment it tried to encroach on. Granted The Grey seemed to be gradually adapting, but he knew of somewhere they could go. The Crystal Valley would be almost completley untouched. Even if he was wrong, and The Grey had begun to take over the one time home of the mightiest group of dragon clans Ayenee had ever seen, his own personal home, built when he got married, was heavily protected, and would be surrounded by a clear area unaffected by the imposing mist.

Plus, one of the enchantments that was in place, and connected with the armor he wore, allowed him to travel there instantly. It was far away from here, in a secluded valley long abandonded by the CryClads, and nearly unreachable by any unfamiliar with it. So that was where he would go.

With a thought, they were gone from the area around the tower. He would let his friend rest. They would come up with a plan, and he would do what he had to.

The Waking Dream had returned home.

Nalya stood there and attempted to gesture to the young ones she was not going to harm them. She sat her self down and lowered her paw, her head tilted slightly to the side while her ears stayed perked upward. She did her best to let them know she was friendly, even if her wolf nature was much more aggressive than her human side. She waited a few seconds more to see how they would react to her but a sense of great urgency nagged at her....

Slowly she rose and turned herself in the opposite direction but before moving more she turned back looking at the couple to suggest that they should go with her. For some unknown reason it was as if it was meant for her to meet up with the pair. Perhaps she wasn't a coward after all. Perhaps this was why she left she had to leave?

As all know wolves do not bark but they can do more than just howl. Her eyes fixed directly on the female, Nalya tried to tell her she needs to go with her.

"We are lost souls...you, your brother, and I, and we will most likely gather with others like ourselves. We may not know answers yet but I do belive all will be explained very soon."

With that said Nalya turned her head back around and begun to trot off hoping she was able to reach the girl.
