The Eru are rarely spoken of out loud due to the heinous deeds committed by race in the past and the dark magic they were said to practice. Those able to resist the allure of dark magic fled the Eru lands in the frozen north and took to the desert mountains of Ayenee.
That was a thousand years ago, perhaps more. But those who clearly remember the Eru, those who study ancient magics, see them in the Kharzai. Over time, their physical stature changed, but their dark brown skin and elven ears are inescapable marks of their dark past. They live now with as little magic as possible, embracing a life of hunting and gathering.

The Horse: The Great Stallion in the sky, Henghist, is said to have protected the original tribe as they fled the Eru lands. They followed the horse through the night until it lead them to the mountains where it was safe. The mountains were full of wild horses, his children. The Kharzai are very reverent of horses and are said to be able to speak with them.
The Spear: Provider of food, protector of people, the spear is the main tool of the Kharzai and is used in ceremony. At the age of seven, every Kharzai child is given their first spear.
The raven: intelligent and cunning, the raven is a symbol from the Eru. Some view seeing ravens as a reminder to always be aware. Others view them as bringers of omens of evil. However, to kill a raven is to curse one's self.
The hawk: beloved by archers and travellers, the hawk represents speed and truth of sight. Many kharzai wear hawk feathers in their hair as charms, especially when traveling.
Common weapons used by Kharzai are bows, sabers, spears, tomahawks, daggers and round shields. Their armors are usually leather and minimal to be swift. They live in yurts and longhouses. They are also very family oriented, refering to all unrelated kindred as cousin.
Their government is tribal. The chieftan usually acts as the judge in rare criminal cases. But decisions about relocating and war are decided by voting. Every member of the tribe at the age of 15 has the right to speak in council and be heard. Their society is egalitarian. There are no gender specific duties.
"Everyone does their share. Everyone shares."
They do not exchange currency, but barter. They do understand the concept of money because they have had contact with outsiders.
