Kayt's surface recovery

Kayt would pass out from the pain as the blue elven warrior carried her not so nicely along. Once they reached the safety of base he would deposit her in the make shift infirmary. While her minor cuts and wounds could be treated there they could do nothing for the burn that covered her neck and upper chest. In her sleep she screamed and thrashed about when they even tried to remove her top. It was decided she would have to be sent to the surface if she was going to receive the proper treatment and remain a productive, living, member of their cause. On the surface they would heal her with magic and wrapped her upper body in bandages to protect the raw new skin. She would sleep for almost two days, toward the end it was a restless sleep full of nightmares and past events.

She came awake with a start in what appeared to be the same room she had used in the temple before. Instinctively she reached for her weapon, a move she paid for with the discomforts of the bandages and stiff muscles. Putting the mild discomfort she felt out of her mind she slowly set up and started to slide from the bed. She was hungry she realized and how the hell did she get here?

She managed a weak smile at seeing that she had been left alone to her nightmares, which wasn’t unusual. What was unusual was the clarity and how lifelike the nightmares appeared to be. With a small shake of her head she slowly stood and with some pain pulled on a robe over her cloth pants and bandaged upper body. Not up to bothering with shoes she slowly moved toward the door and tested it to see if it was locked before opening. Once she was in the hall she would move toward the kitchen, even moving slow she still had a rebellious and confident look.

"There was a bell left by your bed. You could have rung if you wanted food." A red skinned, three eyed creature said as it stepped from a side room carrying what looked like a roast leg of pork. To say it looked unattural would be to misunderstand everything Chaos was doing here. It had once been a man by the looks of things, but its extra eyeabove the bridge of its nose meant it would never be able to pass for one again.

She had managed to make it to the kitchen and was searching for a bite to eat. She had realized quickly that upper body movements still brought on pains that reminded her of her mistakes, she hated being restrained even by her own body. She looked to the creature when he spoke, the look was of curiosity not surprise “I’ve been in bed for…” she paused wondering out loud “how long have I been in bed?” she wasn’t sure she wanted the answer so continued “I need to move around. Since your offering, what’s on the menu?” she moved away from the counter and towards a table taking care when she sat down.

"Well lets see." His left eye rolled to the left and he looked towards a plate of whole raw fish. "We've got fish."

His right eye rolled to the right and he looked at a basket of fruit. "Fruit and vegetables from the farms."

He then set the leg of ham down on the table beside him. "We've also got ham, some salted beef, bread, and I think some meat pie left too." As he spoke his eyes rolled back so that all three looked directly at Kayt.

She watched him with some amusement, which she didn’t even try to hide. When his left eye looked to the fish so do she, with both eyes. Then she looked to the basket of fruit and lastly to the ham he sat down. Fruit she thought and sighed, she couldn’t remember the last time she’d had a good apple…”A ham sandwich and a apple. Water to drink.” She hoped her eyes and appetite weren’t too big for what her stomach could handle right now.

She would continue to watch him closely, only because there was nothing more interesting to occupy her while she waited for the food “Where might one find Ti’Then at this hour?” she asked casually “or Garogch” she would have shrugged her shoulders but didn’t want to add anymore discomfort than she was already feeling.

The cook cut two thick slices from a round loaf of bread, then a thick piece of ham from the leg. He assembled them on a pewter plate, then handed it to Kayt. He passed her an apple, then left the room before coming back with a clay jug and a beaker, which he also set down on the table.

"Master Ti'then was here earlier, he mentioned he was going to the drill square to see to the latest recruits from the Underdark. Lord Garogch does not come down here often, but last I heard he'd been upon the roof of the tower for three days."

Taking the plate that was offered and then the apple she sat it down and started to eat. She took small bites, testing her stomach. Nodding thanks when he put the water in front of her before. After pouring herself a drink washed down the sandwich. It somewhat surprised her that she no longer had the same reaction as she used to when the roof of the tower was mentioned. Was this indifference to the memory? Or acceptance of her fate? She’d rather not think about it.

”Funny that’s just what I need to speak with Master Ti’Then about” she couldn’t have kept the sarcasm out of her voice if she tried and accepted the shock with mild annoyance. After that she ate quietly and went over the events that had brought her here. When she was finished with the sandwich and drank the rest of her water she took the apple and stood ”Thanks” she says and starts walking out of the kitchen in the direction of the drill square.

Kayt finds that the magical elevator at the centre of the tower is still present and is able to ride it down to ground level. Once outside however she will be in for a surprise. The sun is still hidden behind the great barrier of mist that rises up behind the ring of mountains that encloses the great temple and its surrounding settlements.

There are trees for the first time in hundreds of years. An entire orchard of them laden with fruit. Farms fill a great swathe of the landscape and there are hundreds of people working them. Many of them changed in the same way as the cook.

The drill square lies near the base of the tower and to the north, at the heart of the barracks that house some of Ti'then's elves as well as Surrag's redskinned orcs. As she approaches she sees that Ti'then stands with his arms folded watching two drow squared off against each other. Unlike the others around them, for as well as Ti'then there are several of his leutenants watching, they are still drow.

The drow are unarmed, but they are hurling punches and kicks as though their lives depended upon it. One lands an elbow to the jaw of the other, who retaliates by landing a side kick to the first drow's ribs. This knocks the warrior back a foot or two, but he immediately follows back up with a headbut that draws blood. Two punches smash hard into a face and then both drow staggered back a few steps.

"Enough" Ti'then said. "You both fight well. Agression. Skill. The ability to fight past pain. You are worthy."

Four of the blue skinned ones approach, and each drow is taken away by two of them, for whatever awaits the new recruits next.

Had she forgotten she was in a robe, cloth pants, and barefoot? Or that she hadn’t checked her appearance in a mirror? No she hadn’t, it just didn’t really matter to her how others saw her. Pausing at the entrance to the temple and looked over the land that she had once attempted to escape. Biting into the apple she had to approve. Her opposite hand ran its fingers through her silvery blond hair, there were more dark strikes in it.

Still eating the apple she moves slowly out of the entrance and to the north. Her eyes scanned over the drow that were there, blue and normal alike. It was not hard for her to pick out Ti’Then. Pausing the moment she saw him and then her eyes went to the too fighting, the corners of her lips did curl slightly in amusement.

Moving silently now toward the fight and the back of Ti’Then. He was speaking now, she heard every word. Several thoughts crossed her mind of what she would do now, apparently none of them involved his death. Watching the drow being taken away she took another bite of the apple and then moved closer to Ti’Then but didn’t move to beside him. She stayed several steps back and watched quietly.

"Only one left. Well then you get to fight me." Ti'then stepped forward as a lone Drow was lead out into the middle of the dusty arena.

"Your name warrior?" Ti'then asked as he stripped off his vest and removed his bracers. He was easily a foot taller than the drow, who looked like a child compared to Chaos' warmaster. Only the orc Surrag was equal in rank with Ti'then upon the field of war.

"Bar'fryn Do'.." The drow spoke, only to be interrupted.

"We have no houses here Bar'fryn. Weapon of fate. A portentous name. Now let us see if you are worthy."

Ti'then stepped back and dropped into a fighting stance. His feet shoulder length apart, left to the front, his hands open and low by his waist. The drow set his hands into fists and dropped into a similar stance. He looked slightly nervous...

Kayt watched with mild interest, if anything this would be entertaining and bloody. One did not need imagination to figure out the outcome of this fight, either poor Bar’fryn hobbled away and became a member of Ti’Then’s men or his dead lifeless body was dragged away. Kayt hadn’t saw Ti’Then truly fight since he had changed, that would be a big reason she decided not to turn back around and return to bed.

So, eating her apple she waited patiently for the punches and kicks to begin. While she waited and watched she tried to decide how best to get what she wanted while on the surface. After all this was all Vel’s fault, and this bandage was rather itchy.

Ti'then moved first and landed an open palm strike to the drow's shoulder that rocked the warrior back on his heels before he could even try to block it. The warmaster followed up with a cutting elbow strike that would have almost resulted in a decapitation. This time though the drow was able to duck and hammer an uppercut into Ti'then's ribs. Ti'then brought his knee up to find it blocked with a crunch by the drow's forearms.

The drow tried to headbutt Ti'then, but the warmaster grabbed at his opponent's head with both hands and then jumped up to unleash a powerful kick to Bar'fryn's chest. The drow staggered back, then charged Ti'then who stepped to the side, caught the drow by the neck and right arm then hefted him into the air to throw him to the dirt...

She paused with the apple half way to her open lips when Ti’then made his move. The apple forgotten for now, she closed her mouth. Her lips created a smirk, he would have been the one…arrogant…she let the rest of the thought go, as she had no wish to be shocked or annoyed at the moment. The mild discomfort that she was feeling from the bandages and having been in bed for however long it was got put to the back of her mind.

The smirk was quickly replaced by a grin as Bar’fryn stood his own against Ti’then, at least for a very short time. She winced when Ti’then’s kick connected with Bar’fryn’s chest. For one it brought back some rather unpleasant and recently painful memories for her and she was enjoying the show. However, a win with no blood spilled from him could put Ti’then in a good mood which might help her. Even so she still shook her head and clicked her tongue lightly when Bar’fryn charged Ti’then. She saw the mistake in it before it registered on the poor drow’s face as he was caught and hefted into the air. Even so she couldn’t be sure the fight was over, so she only shifted her weight from one foot to another, glancing around to check the others that were near out of habit.

Ti'then spun on his heel and dropped into a defensive stance. This was not about killing the drow, not really. The drow landed with a thud that kicked up dust from the sandy floor of the drill square. With a grunt Bar'fryn flipped over and surged to his feet. Then the drow looked to Ti'then with a grin and dropped into a fighting stance of his own and motioned for the general to attack him.

Ti'then let out a chuckle and started to circle to the right as he stepped towards the drow warrior. Then he suddenly broke into a charge. He dropped his left shoulder and then slammed his foot into the ground hard, as he jumped. Bar'fryn had every opportunity to try and dodge Ti'then, but perhaps there was a hint of over confidence for the warrior tried to throw Ti'then in the same way he was thrown a moment earlier. It failed and Ti'then smashed a downward punch into the forehead of Bar'fryn. The drow rocked back on his heels and Ti'then landed with bent knees to smash and elbow into Bar'fryn's jaw that saw the drow crash to the ground unconcious.

Ti'then straighten up and brushed the dust from himself. "He fought well. Wake him up and give him water. Then introduce him to his new comrades."

Then Ti'then turned and spotted Kayt for the first time. "I see my cousin has not found need to kill you yet then."

She watched the end of the fight with amusement, Bar’fryn’s attempt to return the favor to Ti’then made her chuckle light. An action that brought a twinge of pain, with a sharp intake of breath it ended almost as soon as it started. When he lay unconscious on the ground she moved forward a few steps watching as Ti’then brushed himself off and spoke to his men.

She looked slightly disappointed by what he said to them, looking down at the drow “A pity. I think I could have liked him. Cocky, arrogant, perhaps a little to full of himself” she shot a quick pointed glance toward Ti’then “and doesn’t, at the moment, want me dead.” She then turned her full attention to Ti’then. His comment about Vel brought a frown “Ah, yes well you need not worry overly about it. I’m sure between the two of you, you can come up with something that might actually stick. He nearly succeeded this time, now didn’t he?” She motioned to her bandaged chest, covered only by the robe she had put on. She was looking at his face but would not meet his eyes, something she usually did to challenge his authority over her. “How long have I been on the surface?”

"I think that was your own effort, or lack thereof." Ti'then said with a chuckle and accepted a water skin from a chaos underling with the head of a dog.

"Three weeks. One of the priests put you into a deep sleep so that you could start to heal without aggravating your wound."

It hadn’t been lost on her that he ignored or didn’t make comment on her statement on Bar’fryn or about him and his cousin brining about her death. She glared at him “If he would have listened…” the words were hissed out in drow before she could bite her tongue to stop them. She didn’t finish instead she sighed and glanced around them, her gaze lingering in the direction the prisoners had been carried off to.

Her attention was brought back to Ti’then quickly at his answer to her question. Her mouth dropped open for a moment before she quickly closed it. She was surprised. “That explains a little” She finally says “And how long are you allowing me to stay?” It was a rare thing for her to ask a question of him that wasn't dripping with malice or sarcasm. Along with that rarity was the fact that most times she couldn't be in a room with him for 5 minutes without getting shocked at least twice, which had yet to happen.

"I am not in charge of your care, but I am lead to believe there is a task you may be needed for in the next week or so, but these are meerly rumours." Ti'then replied.

Suddenly there was a red flash across the sky and a great rumble of noise. "We have uninvited guests. With Garogch otherwise occupied I must lead those who investigate, would you care to join me?" Whilst he waited for an answer he turned to a group of nearby warriors.

"You five, bring seven horses and ready for a fight. We have visitors."

A smirk played across her lips for a brief moment before she nibbled on her lower lip at the thought of a surface task. For a split second there was hope there, she missed the moon and wanted nothing more than to see the next full moon and to feel it wash over her. Wishful thinking there but maybe it would happen.

Before she could ask or say anything in response a red flash lit the sky. She looked up at it with confusion and then to Ti’then again as he spoke. He surprised her again by his question. Part of her assumed he was up to something, because she hadn’t fully recovered her strength. But, she hated being left behind. Grinning she nodded “I’ll join.” she glanced down at herself and frowned “But I need my sword and a proper top. Would you care sending someone after them?”

Ti'then looked at another underling and nodded to the tower. "Go and get her sword and something she can fight in. Be quick about it." The underling ran off immediately to get them. This one had been changed in a much smaller way, he still looked human, but with a thin layer of green fur covering him from head to toe.

"The visitors will be wandering lost in the mist for some time, so we can afford to prepare." Then he went to a wooden table where his own battle gear was placed. He pulled a chain shirt over his head, fasten on two leather gauntlets and finally added a studden leather vest which he laced up over his chainmail.
