Email Confirmation

The Raven of Dispersion

Atra'Lamia Darkbane
There seems to be a slight issue with the email confirmation after signing up. A couple of people have spoken to me in regards to issues they have had, and had to select [confirm email] several times before it has arrived in their email inbox. Likely a slight glitch and likely something very simple. Seems gmail, is the one with the most issues.

Thank you kindly for looking into this in advance.
Dy.

How did you get the field where "Atra'Lamia Darkbane" is located?

I don't seem to have that.

Do I need to post more, then it happens automatically?

Or does a staff member have to edit that for me?

Well alright as for the email confirmation system I have to admit it's a bit outside my general comprehension at the moment but I'll take a gander at how that system is set up and see if I can figure it out. Far more Wes's bag than mine, I'm a people person or something like that. Also, Solar to change the subtitle it should be available in your personal details "custom title" If it's not there then there might be a flag dependent upon post count but I can most likely trip that flag for you.

If it's based on post count, I will get there eventually.

If it's something special the staff have to give, that's the only reason I was asking... because... Atra is pretty special... so... I was wondering if that's how she got it...

She does seem rather special, but we might just be saying that because she'll stab us in the face if we don't...Alright if it's a post count if you like I can override it pretty simply.

Now Raven I have looked into what parts of the email system I can see and I see nothing that should indicate an issue, with perhaps the exception of the @stararmy.com address perhaps being filtered by Google as an unrecognized mail origin. As such at least from here there is little I can do. Wes might have more ideas or a better grasp of what's going on in the inner workings of the system that might be causing a delay.

I kind of thought it was a conflict with gmail, as it has been known to happen before. I told them to try email confirmation a couple of times, and eventually there was a verification message in their inbox; after 3 attempts. I am sure it is nothing major, other than probably gmail being an ass, because it can.

And lol@stabbing in the face. I am a total sweetheart, only to those whom deserve that side of me-- those who don't, get my "vile" side (as they deserve). But luckily we're not IC because Atra would most certainly place sword to yapper in most cases; as she has done so in the past. In the past when T1 talent permitted it so. These days... who knows XD!!! Rust and zero "f's".....

Click on your account, and look for the section labled 'personal details,' scroll till you see 'custom title,' and there you go.

Go back and play with your.... colours :p
But yes as Dark just said, you change it in [personal details]

As for the email verification. It is definitely gmail. My dear JL was trying to register, and it wouldn't sent the verification to gmail, but worked straight away to another email (not gmail). :)

I am missing Custom Title as an option on my Personal Details page.

You both must have a different, higher rank or membergroup which enables that option.

Well, I gave you a custom title so now you should, in theory, have the ability to edit it or send me the title you'd like and I'll put it in for you.

Yep. As she said, there are DEFINITELY gmail issues. Both a quick change to a different email provider instantly resolved the isssue, so no huge deal. Although if a random newcomer doesn't have that info, it could leave them to believe joining is by invitation only, or just outright dissuade them..

And yea - Solar. Almost all forum setups I've ever seen restrict custom titles until reaching a given post count or purchasing with " Points" accrued by posting ICly or with a minimum character count (i.e., three word responses often earned 0 points.)

Helps filter out role-players from trollers... DOES NOT differentiate between quality players and half ass players - but that's all bias and matter of opinion.

I'll see what I can do to fix this.

Maybe we should just turn off email confirmation and raise the spam filter gates a little more to compensate.
