It had been days since the man had tasted the subtle sweet taste of water upon his palette, his thin lips cracked and covered with dry blood bespeckled with sand and dust as he staggered down thew road. His long sandy blonde hair knotted and tangled as thickly as the brambles hooked upon his boots. As his feet shuffled forward he could see a fork in the road. His vission started to fade as he fell forward hitting the ground with a satisfying yet sickening thud.

TheSage

From opposite the heat-stressed wanderer's direction of travel a relatively androgynous figure comes down the left hand fork. Garbed in a comfortable naturally colored robe and bare feet with a shaved head, the sage does not hurry upon spying the downed man however he does head in that direction.

She watched the man stumble and fall and allowing her voice to enter his mind she called to him. She was simply a vision before him beckoning to him to not give up.

"It is not your time." she softly whispered to him.

Gently she laid her hands upon him aiding him to rise once more.

"Do not give up, you have so much to live for even if it is not apparent to you just yet."

Hearing the words of the woman flitter across his mind his eyes closed tight dust breaking free from his eyelisds as he did so his hands slidding over the hard earth under him. He turned his head to the side as he started to lift himself up. His lips parted as his voice cracked and croacked as if his voice were that of the desert itself " I know that " He said bitterly as he forced himself up the heat beating on him. His eyes slowly focused as he rose up spying a figure he couldn't make out in the distance but the glare from the shaved head made his eyes squint even more.

She blinked at the mans rudeness and removed her hands from helping him up. "Well then your on your own," she said with a huff. Turning she did not see anyone else in sight and decided to keep a close eye on this weary stranger just in case. Even though he acted ungrateful the woman did not have a heart of stone so she found herself a large rock and sat upon it waiting.

The mans eyes turned and whirled around seeing the bald man as his senses and thoughts started to catch up with another he heard someone and felt her hands upon him helping him get up, but now she was on a stone away from him sitting there her annoyance evident on her face. her words of him being on his own wove through the dirt and sand that filled his ears as he blinked a few times. " Where the hells am I ? " he said licking his lips with an equally dry tongue.

Well beyond the ability of the wanderer to see, someone watched. Purposes were unknown to most of those, if not all, who were involved. Still, the peculiar watcher was there.

The mental words would reach the woman from the distant observer. -There is a thick cloud of confusion around his mind. Be careful to maintain patience with him.-

Sitting there doing nothing or any importance the woman watched as the man spit up a dust cloud. Giggling to herself she found it some what amusing. "What is that in my head?" she wondered. Shaking her head about she attempted to clear any and all foreign sounds from cluttering her mind. In her thoughts she said, "HEY! Get out of my head!"

Now with her head cleared she returned her vocus on the man whom seem'd to be lost and confussed.

He was well adapted to such reactions when he began a communication with someone mentally. Most people, be they mortal or otherwise, were not accustomed to strange voices in their head. When he first started doing it, he'd caused more than one person to be called insane by those around them. Now he was far more cautious about those he picked and the manner in which he went about it. As such, he did not attempt to convince her it was okay that she was hearing him. That would defeat the entire purpose of speaking with her in the first place. So, for now at least, he continued to watch from his distant vantage point and watched the man with whom they shared a common interest.

Staggering a bit he tilted his head to the left looking at her as if e'd not seen a woman in roughly more than half his life. When she started to talk about something getting out of her head he croaked a humorless laugh that sounded like old floor boards squeaking under too much weight " Billy was right they are all insane" He said with a grin as he stumbled towards her his eyes looking her over for a second before looking in the distance for a moment as if he had seen where the thoughts had originated from. " So what in tar-nation is this place ? " He said to the woman absently.

Clearly the woman had stopped caring to listen to the man. As e waited for a reply an annoying fly seemed to have found his scent and decided to buzz around his face. He seemed not to care initially before absently waving a hand to shoo it away as he started to walk down the road his eyes weary as he moved towards the horizon.
