Chainsaw

Well in my experience with using one on trees and shrubs, I would say no. It takes a while to cut through anything of any decent thickness, and often weights to much to be effective. However It does have the benifit of cutting skin decently its the bones that would be a problem and the ammount of blood clogging the gears.

So Simply put if your going to be gutting someone or all but decapatating them, perfect, if not however your better off with a ginsu knife.

Its definitely the weapon of choice if you want to mutilate someone, but not necessarily for instant kills.. Chances are that if they somehow get to a hospital before bleeding to death, a chainsaw wound won't be lethal, but it will leave an impressive scar, and permanent damage is likely.

Its only if you can ensure that your victim won't get medical attention after a single attack, or if you can make multiple attacks that it becomes a really fun lethal weapon.

I've actually seen the chainsaw used as a weapon in my older roleplay days.
Can't remember what character was wielding it back then.

It's heavy, it's hard to swing decently and it can't cut through steel or very hard metal or rock objects.

It's not particularily a popular choice among weapons and it isn't quite "easy" to manage properly. You also have to consider the gas-levels, how sharp the blades are, etc.

The other problem with multiple hit-ratio's on this particular weapon is that it has a decrease of success for each and every swing.
Ever seen that Chainsaw massacre movie? Some of the swings there missed.
Even when Jason was using it in Friday the thirteenth, there was a lunge he made and missed the target completely cutting through a table.

yeah if i had my pick of weapons between an axe, a one handed sword, a chainsaw, or a lance, I'd most likely pick the sword.
A lance, when used has weight and heft behind it so if someone were to lunge it directly at you, the odd's of you dodging are at a rather high vantage point.
The fact that with a sword, the possibility to parry a lance, is about a 7 out of ten chance.

Meaning you have seven out of ten possible-times of success.

With an axe you have the issue of weight(unless your built like ol ullery here who's used to axes) then there's also the possibility of your weapon getting stuck.
A chainsaw can't really cut through rock or hard steel and the attempt would make the blades chip and break resulting in shrapnel fire seen in such genre like when a nailgun is fired or glass breaks apart.

A nailgun is effective against giant killer spiders. Arachnaphobia may be a specialised case though.

The household tools used as weapons genre is fun mind you. Good with zombies involved.
