Alien at Home

When the events have finally passed, the Astral Form of Daniel subsided as the boy's physical body calmed in response. The surge of electrical energy within his tiny form decreased and slowed to a peaceful thrum within him.

While Daniel now slept peacefully within January's arms, the view he witnessed as the Astral Projection returned to the hazy remnents as though a dream watching the two as they looted the now deceased Inkers. After a few more seconds, the vision started to darken as though waking from the dream, Daniel now back within his physical body, opened his eyes with a large yawn as though he did take a deep nap. He looks upward to January with his eyes strangely glow blue for a momentary second before they returned to their soft hue of brown.

What had transpired within his sleepened state now vanished within his already dormant memories, unaware of what had happened. He smiled and cooed softly to her as he opened his arms as though wanting to be held and carried now.

Unknowing to Daniel, a change continued to slowly and softly grow within him, etching their way within his sub-consious where his true self and identity layed sleeping.

Seeing that the child had awakened, she watched his eyes glow blue then return to brown. One brow lifted as she brushed the hair back from the child’s face and murmured softly.

“I think there is more to you then meets the eye little one…A lot more…”

She adjusted the child on her lap so he could watch the screen and with a finger she pointed out their companions as the drug away the bodies of the Inkers. She smiled and spoke again to the boy.

“Seems Ghost and Erik didn’t need help, they did fine all on their own”

The bodies were set down at the top of the slope, one on top of the other. The slope was steep and unnatural, carved out by the event. Ghost sent them on their way with a kick. Not for the first time he did this and not for the first time did he hope it would be the last.

"Growing tired of these visits."
Ghost said as he picked the shotgun up and headed back to the entrance to the facility. "Thinking I might act as your guide if you want to seek civilisation. It might be out there somewhere."

Erik nodded, but made no audible response to Ghost. He was too busy looking at the terrain. The past five-hundred years had made an extreme amount of changes to the land Erik once would have been able to recognize in a heartbeat. The fact that he only thought it was two or three hundred years added to the awe inspiring effect. As if the global earthquakes hadn't been enough, the global executive takeover by Humanity First had started a planetary war, the results of which were nothing short of cataclysmic.

Buildings that were once viewed as cutting edge in design were now little more than fragments of rubble covered in centuries of buildup and trampled over by countless sets of feet, and that was only for the portions that hadn't been completely destroyed. The earthen surface itself had been changed more because of the war and earthquakes than anything else. Mountains and chasms now stood in place of what would have been neighborhoods and business districts.

All in all, it was a frightening realization for Erik. There was now no doubt left, this may have technically been the same world he'd fallen asleep in, but it was too different for him to handle doing anything alone.

Returning her attention to the screen she continued to gently bounce the child on her leg and wait for the others to return inside.

Daniel cooed softly as January brushed the hair from upon his face while speaking softly to him. He continues to sit upon her leg as she bounced him upon it, his eyes now watching the monitor for what was going on. He could not see anyone within it, and was briefly wondering at what she was looking at or who she was looking for.

The electrical energy coursing through his body was now flowing as though a gentle breeze within his tiny form. Daniel’s subconscious on the other hand was busy firing away at its synapses, scanning the area outside the compound and watching closely around Ghost and Erik. His subconscious mind scanning and watching the area intently, Daniel himself was unaware of what was going on especially within his own mind. Slowly a sinking feeling started to creep into his gut, making him feel very uneasy about something. He started to get slightly fussy as the bad feeling continued to slowly grow as though there was something wrong.

The feeling within his gut was due to his subconscious mind feeling something close by to Ghost and Erik. It was unable to find where the source was, but it felt very different and bad. It did not even feel as though it belonged to the men who were killed just moments before.

A few yards away laying within the dense vegetation were a couple strange beings whose piercing eyes were carefully watching the two men as they dispatched of the slain bodies. They remained completely silent and still, keeping fully hidden from the two whom they watched. After a couple moments of watching, they slowly slinked away further into the dense vegetation while keeping their eyes upon the two men. Without words, they already made the decision to keep close and watch these two and follow where they may lead.

Daniel while sitting and bouncing upon January’s leg, he was still slightly fussy about the bad feeling that he was having, his subconscious mind keeping fully alert as to the strange feeling that it felt close by. It could not see where the strange sensation that it came from, nor feel what it was, all it knew was that it was very bad.

Ghost lead back to the entrace and picked his way past his various booby traps to get back inside. "Hopefully that is enough of a message" He said and went in search of a drink of water. There was a plastic barrel in the back room and he found a metal cup to drink from.

"I was just saying. I'll help you three get to civilisation. We'll just need to make sure everything here is well locked up. I'd like to come back one day."

Erik looked back over the horizon. Something within him stirred as he viewed the ruins of the city. As he turned back to see the looming building that was once his prison, he thought it odd that anyone would want to return to this terrible place. But, Ghost had lived there for some time in relative protection from the outside world, and Erik guessed he couldn't blame the man for wanting to return there. Still, he couldn't put the thought of dread out of his mind when he thought about what had once gone on within the walls of the building Ghost found so comforting.

He followed Ghost's footfalls as they made their way back inside. He bypassed the water, which was strange, as he knew he should be thirsty. But, for some reason, he wasn't. He didn't feel fatigued at all. Assuming it had something to do with the extended sleep which he'd only woken up from mere minutes beforehand, he thought little of it. Instead, he went directly to January. "Ghost has agreed to see us through the city until we get to some form of civilization. From there we'll need to find a historian or a records keeper or something of the sort. We need to know how long we've been out of it."

She tried to placate the fussy child as she listend to Erik's words and nodded in agreement.
"We should gather a few supplies, weapons and make some sort of sling or backpack to carry this little guy in, cause after a few miles he's going to feel mighty heavy"

Daniel’s subconscious mind continued to keep alert for whatever was close by. The uneasy feeling within his body slowly started to recede as his subconscious felt the strange sensations slowly dissipate. Daniel did feel even better once he saw Erik and Ghost returned while January was trying what she could to comfort him. He was still a little fussy, but calmer now. His subconscious mind returned, slightly surfaced as though it were keeping even more alert to all their surroundings.

This keeping consciousness was now drawing in more energy from the tiny child’s body, needing the energy to keep itself open and alert. It did not know what was coming or happening, but it knew that its very life was dependence upon those that he was with and theirs upon what it is able to learn. Daniel was fully unaware to what was really happening, within him and his own mind. He cooed softly to January as he felt extremely sleepy once again. The draw of energy within him was causing him to slowly succumb to a deep slumber within the matter of seconds. The succumbing of sleep was peaceful upon his face, making one possibly think that he was now sleeping the dreamful sleep of children.

As the awakened consciousness felt the child drift into the deep sleep, it could feel the flowing energies that it needed coming more easily and even flow. It did not want to draw all the energy, just enough for it to keep its focused alert. The drain upon Daniel’s inner energies in turn started to have another affect upon his body. In a slow and steady rate, if one was watching would notice that strangely he was started to get younger within January’s arms. It would be evident though within the passing minutes that Daniel’s body was reverting back to a younger stage of his life, coming to the appearance of a baby only a few months old.

"I think I have a rucksack and a satchel somewhere around here. There are a few things I salvaged in a room past the tube room. Come on, we'll see what we can find."

Ghost lead them back, past his rudimentary hydroponics to the room where the tube room was. There was a second door which lead into the rest of the facility. He pushed the door open and fumbled for the light switch. Nothing happened. "No light. Can someone grab the lamp over there?" He gestured through the door they'd come through, to a yellow plastic battery powered lamp on the table by the wall.

Erik simply followed as Ghost lead the way. His mind was starting to piece together bits of information. He was attempting to estimate just how long he'd been asleep. Ultimately he knew it would be a fruitless exploit, but it was worth attempting. The drastic changes, the description of the doctors slip into madness, and the information Ghost had provided him made him think that, most likely, they'd been out a lot longer than he first thought. But, of course, he wouldn't know for sure until he got a chance to speak to the historian. And before he could do that, they had to make it there.

He followed Ghost's direction in a half-zombified state as his mind reeled at the possibilities of what they would end up facing as they traveled. He came back with the lamp and waited for further instruction.

Ghost took the lamp and fiddled with it for a moment or two before it glowed for a second and then burst into fluorescent light. Then he lead them into the newly illuminated dusty room. A few metal shelves lined the walls with the odd can of preserved food. A few tools and spare parts. Then "Ah ha", Ghost grabbed a leather satchel and a military ruck sack, then went around stowing tins of the preserved food.

"Look around, see what you can find."

((Now if only we had Lowthor here, we could continue this RP as well.))

Rhysis: ((I was just thinking that, myself. lol))
